$275,000 lottery win allows Shoreline woman to be present for one of life's biggest moments

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

As one of two winners to split a $550,000 Hit 5 jackpot, a Shoreline woman is now able to make the long trip to Alaska to be present for one of life’s sweetest moments.

The woman won $275,000 from the Hit 5 jackpot drawing on December 5, after purchasing a ticket at River Rock (21125 Smoke Point Blvd., Arlington, WA 98223) on her way home from her daughter’s baby shower.

“It’s my own ‘Miracle on 34 Street,’” said the winner. “I told the universe I wanted to win a couple weeks ago and here I am!”

The winner’s daughter is a soon-to-be mother, and the woman told Washington’s Lottery officials she plans to use her prize money to visit Alaska and spend time with her daughter and grandchild when the baby is born.

The winner also plans to spend her money on a family trip to Hawaii since she’s never been before. “I just want to soak up the sun on the beach,” said the woman.

Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide.

Since 1982, Washington’s Lottery has generated more than $3 billion to support important state programs including the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account. Money in the Pathways Account goes toward helping students achieve their higher education dreams and supports early childhood education learning programs.

Edmonds police took a man into custody just south of Costco in Shoreline Wednesday morning, following a brief pursuit of a stolen Prius that started at 220th Street Southwest and Highway 99 and a vehicle crash at 200th and Highway 99.

According to Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Inglemore High School in Kenmore cancels classes on Wednesday because of social media threats

Thursday, June 16, 2016

King County Sheriff Detectives are investigating threats made over the social media site Instagram, which were directed at students and faculty at Inglemore High School on Simmonds Road NE in Kenmore, in the Northshore School District.

On Friday June 10, 2016, administrators from Inglemore High School called the Kenmore Police to report some harassing posts and possible threats made to the school and specific staff. The threats were posted from an Instagram account that students are able to see and follow. The post referred to certain staff at the school, calling them names and telling them (in different terms) to stop messing with them. Administrators were made aware of these posts by students and parents from the school.

When notified of the posts, Kenmore Deputies began to investigate to determine if they constituted a crime. In the meantime, the account they were coming from was temporarily shut down by Instagram.

On June 14, 2016, several students and parents again contacted Administrators at Inglemore to tell them that another post from the same name was made. This time the post was more threatening. Among other things, the post warned people “do not come to school tomorrow ima waste everyone.”

Inglemore High School was not specifically named in this post.

With the information that they had, Administrators at Inglemore High School decided to cancel classes for Wednesday, June 15.

The school will be holding classes on Thursday. A statement from the school was posted on their website:

Over the last two weeks, an unknown individual has copied images from other Inglemoor High School students’ accounts and created different Instagram accounts to post photos and comments about students and staff. These posts have become increasingly harassing.
We take any threat very seriously and have been working closely with the Kenmore Police Department. Police are looking into the incident and working with Instagram to identify the individual(s) responsible.
Police do not believe this recent post is a credible threat based on the activity and information from previous posts. Additionally, police believe the person responsible is seeking attention and power and expects to see a continuation of posts in the future.

King County Sheriff Detectives will be investigating and trying to determine who is behind these postings.  That person could face serious felony charges. Deputies will be on hand at school when classes resume. Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kenmore Police Department at 206-296-3311.

Shoreline homeowner shoots home invader

From King County Sheriff's Office

A Shoreline homeowner, home with his wife and two daughters, shot a man trying to break into his house. The suspect was hit in the leg by a single gunshot. He was taken to the hospital with possible life threatening injuries. The homeowner is not expected to be charged with any crime.

Just prior to 3am on Thursday May 5, 2016, Shoreline police responded to the 100 block of NE 174th after a 19 year old female called to report that someone was trying to break into her family’s house. The caller told dispatchers that she was at home with her 11 year old sister and both her parents and that they had locked themselves in a back bedroom of the house. She also told dispatchers that the father had armed himself with a gun.

She went on to say that prior to the family going to hide in the bedroom, they had seen and heard a man kicking at their doors and trying to break-in. She explained that the suspect was not wearing a shirt and was yelling profanities. After approximately three minutes on the line with 911, she reported hearing the sound of glass breaking at the front of the house.

At this point, the father / homeowner, armed with his 9mm handgun, left the bedroom where his wife and daughters were hiding and went to the front of the house where the sound of breaking glass had come from. As the homeowner came into the front living room area of the house, he encountered the suspect standing just outside the front window and door he had just broken out by throwing lawn furniture through. As the suspect began advancing toward him from just outside the broken door and windows, the homeowner fired two rounds at the suspect, hitting him one time in the upper right thigh.

Deputies were arriving on scene as this last encounter was occurring and heard the two shots. Once at the house, Deputies found the suspect in the front yard with a single gunshot wound to his thigh. Deputies were able to apply a tourniquet and stop or at least slow the bleeding, allowing Shoreline fire to arrive and provide further aid to the suspect before transporting him to Harborview.

At the time of this press release, the suspect was in surgery and is expected to survive.

The suspect is a 41 year old W/M that lives in the same neighborhood as this incident. Once released from Harborview, he will be booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Burglary.

The homeowner is not expected to be charged with any crimes.

Greenwood explosion

Firefighters sprayed the rubble with water for hours
but allowed the leaking gas to burn itself off

Shoreline residents report being awakened by the explosion in Greenwood at 1:45am on Wednesday morning, some six miles south of Shoreline.

A leak allowed gas to build up in a structure in the heart of the Greenwood business district, until it exploded, shattering windows up and down the streets and turning the affected buildings into piles of wood shards.

Debris was hanging from trees, on the top of three story buildings, and covering the street. One apartment resident reported that he saw the explosion and then watched from his window as paper plates floated down from the sky.

Three businesses are completely gone. They were located one building south of the intersection of Greenwood and N 85th on the west side of Greenwood.

Nine Seattle firefighters, who were already on the scene, looking for the source of the gas leak, were treated at Harborview and released.

Three or four Shoreline residents own businesses in that neighborhood.
