Two Lynnwood men face federal charges for actions during January 6 Capitol breach

Friday, October 21, 2022

Photos courtesy Sedition Hunters
WASHINGTON — Two men from the state of Washington have been arrested on federal charges for their actions during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Their actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the presidential election.

Tucker Weston, 34, and Jesse Watson, 33, both of Lynnwood, Washington, are charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia.
  • Weston is charged with felony offenses of assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers, and interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder, and related misdemeanor offenses.
  • Watson is charged with misdemeanor offenses. Both men were arrested on Oct. 19, 2022, in Lynnwood, Washington. They made their initial appearances yesterday in the Western District of Washington and were released pending further proceedings in the District of Columbia.

According to court documents, Weston and Watson were roommates and traveled together to Washington, D.C. They illegally entered the grounds of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, moving about separately for much of the day.

  • Weston participated in removing a metal barricade being used by law enforcement officers to secure the area. This enabled Weston and others in the mob to advance on the Capitol. He and other rioters then engaged in a confrontation with police officers on the West Front of the Capitol. During this confrontation, Weston shoved police officers. Weston entered the Capitol Building at approximately 3:14pm through a broken window next to the Senate Wing Door. He left soon afterwards. During the afternoon, Weston also kicked media equipment near the Capitol.
  • Watson, meanwhile, entered the Capitol at approximately 3:09pm through the Senate Wing Door. He then headed to the Crypt area and assisted another individual in displaying a banner on a pillar. Watson then headed back towards the Senate Wing Door and exited the building at approximately 3:21pm, through a broken window.

This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Seattle Field Office, and the FBI’s Washington Field Office, which identified Weston as #437 on its 'seeking information' photos. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

In the 21 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 880 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including over 270 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The investigation remains ongoing.

Burning truck carrying propane and oxygen tanks explodes on I-5 downtown Thursday

Friday, July 29, 2022

WSDOT crews at the burnt out remains
of the truck fire on I-5
By Diane Hettrick

As if the ferry crashing into the dock weren't enough, a spectacular fire on I-5 at Mercer shut down all lanes of the freeway.

According to The Seattle Times

A truck carrying propane and oxygen tanks caught fire Thursday afternoon on Interstate 5 in Seattle, prompting authorities to close all lanes of the freeway while fire crews extinguished the blaze.

The fire started shortly before 1:10pm on the southbound freeway between the Lakeview and Mercer Street exits.

“Tanks are exploding,” the Seattle Fire Department said on Twitter shortly before 2pm. “Please avoid the area.”

The northbound lanes reopened at 2:30pm, a little more than an hour after the fire was reported. The southbound express lanes opened later in the afternoon, and three other southbound lanes opened in the early evening. Officials opened the remaining southbound lane about 7:30pm.

The driver was not injured. The fire and explosions were apparently all from his cargo. Seattle Fire is still on scene at this point. Fire retardant covered the road. It looks like something is still burning - the smoke cloud drifts toward the drivers trapped on the southbound lanes. Some traffic is getting through northbound.
A crew is working on the overhead sign. One SB lane has been opened to traffic.

Videos showed a fireball with black smoke reaching high in the air. Exploding tanks bounced along the roadway. (sorry - no visuals we can publish).

The sign appears singed.

Traffic was backed up five miles.

Seattle Fire spent several hours making sure the fire was out before turning the scene over to WSDOT.

Bridge inspectors checked out the elevated roadway. WSDOT crews came in to remove the burnt out truck and clear the roadway. WSDOT construction crews brought in equipment to work on the damaged overhead sign.

Ouch! Worst ferry vs dock collision in years

By Diane Hettrick

On Thursday, July 28, 2022 on an early morning run, the Cathlamet, an Issaquah class ferry, crashed into the Fauntleroy terminal in West Seattle. It was on the Fauntleroy / Vashon / Southworth run.

Dolphins explained. Courtesy WSF

The "hard landing" caused significant damage to the vessel and an offshore dolphin at the terminal. A dolphin is part of the terminal that helps guide a boat in.

There were no reported injuries, although there were some reports of damage to vehicles.

Fauntleroy service was suspended while the Coast Guard began its investigation. Washington State Ferries (WSF) started deploying other routes and vessels to handle normal ferry traffic.

Passengers were able to walk off and vehicles had to back off the ferry.

After a few hours, the boat was moved out, heading to the Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility for repairs.  Another ferry was brought in to cover the run and the terminal reopened.

The Washington State Ferry System is part of the Washington State Department of Transportation. Ferry runs are officially state highways.

For example SR104 begins at Bothell Way NE in Lake Forest Park. It continues west through Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, and Edmonds where it goes across the Sound to Kingston.

Several miles into Kitsap county it makes a hard right and continues north to Port Gamble, then across the Hood Canal Bridge. Past Port Ludlow, it ends at SR 101.

Water or roadway, it's all a state highway.

Two die while attempting to repair residential sewer line

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

600 block of NW 163rd. The back yards go down a steep, wooded slope to Innis Arden Way.
Photo from Google Earth.

Two individuals who were part of a crew working to repair a fractured sewer line Monday July 4, 2022 around 1:30pm died after the trench they were in collapsed around them.

They were working in the backyard of a residence at the 600 block of NW 163rd St in Shorewood Hills I in the Highland Terrace neighborhood of Shoreline.

The two were in the trench when the soil caved around them. The rest of the crew, then Shoreline Police immediately worked to try to dig them out.

Shoreline Fire arrived and set up the scene for a trench rescue. They were able to partially expose the patients and use their monitor to do an EKG to check for signs of life. They found the two to be already deceased.

Several attempts were made to recover the bodies but the site is on a slope and the soil is unstable.

The area was deemed unsafe to continue the recovery process. Around 9pm the crews had to clear the area and cease for the night.

Fire will continue their efforts with several partners in the morning.
