Ridgecrest Neighborhood Halloween Parade

Tuesday, November 2, 2021

The costumes were varied and creative

All photos by Steven H. Robinson

The Ridgecrest Neighborhood held their Second Annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 30. 2021 from 3 – 5pm.

Not sure about the blue creature, but there's definitely
a bottle of ketchup off to the right side.

The rules of the parade: Be prepared to have a lot of fun, laughs and a good time connecting with friends and neighbors. Celebrate Fall, Celebrate Halloween!

Dispensing candy down a chute from the 2nd floor

It was a Rain or Shine! event (and they got a beautiful, sunny day) with masks required, and social distancing, too. Other than that, anyone could participate in the parade! Kids, babies, parents, cousins. Grandparents – everyone was welcome!

Little Bee and Lumberjack at the Monster Zoo

Participants could decorate a wagon, wheelbarrow, bikes, or just walk - but no cars!

We found Waldo(s)!

At 3pm, Parade Marshall Cindy started the Parade at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, on the northeast corner of 8th and 165th.

It was a slow-moving parade as everyone stopped at every treat location

From there, the parade went south on 8th NE to the traffic circle on 160th. Then it headed north on 6th Ave NE, ending in the Drumlin/ Ridgecrest Pub parking lot.

During the parade, all the streets of the Parade route were closed to traffic.

Participants could start any time after 3pm. And those with lots of energy did the Parade loop more than once.

Those who lived along the Parade Route were encouraged to decorate and give candy to the participants. Everyone was invited to come out to watch the parade!

Treat tables marked the end of the route at the Ridgecrest Pub.
And if you weren't sure, there was a traffic cone stopping traffic,
aided by Rip Van Winkle.

Kids got a bag of candy at the end of the parade and there were treat tables in the parking lot next to Ridgecrest Pub / Drumlin staffed by neighborhood volunteers.

4-Corners.org Hopelink Fundraising Drive

Thursday, October 14, 2021

4-Corners.org continues its fund-raising drive to fill Hopelink’s shelves and help end hunger in Shoreline. Our goal is $10,000 – and generous friends have already contributed $5,365. Please give generously to push us over the top – and beyond.

https://tinyurl.com/4C4Hopelink

The End Family Hunger Campaign supports Hopelink to help families in need of food and other resources. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of families in our community have had their lives turned upside down. Many continue to struggle.

Every day, members of our community visit food banks for nutritious food for their families. At Hopelink, they also receive a renewed sense of hope, knowing they are not alone.

Many thanks to the many who have donated so far.

Since 2014, the 4-Corners neighborhoods in Shoreline have collected over 3 ½ tons of food during our annual Hopelink Food Drives at our local QFC.

During the pandemic we’ve had to switch gears and go digital. Hopelink actually gets more benefit from dollars than it does from food donations. They can buy exactly what they need and there is no waste. They can buy in bulk and receive discounts that we cannot. There is no need for a list of items needed. Cash works and this is a safe, no contact way for you to help. Please join us in this effort to defeat hunger.

https://tinyurl.com/4C4Hopelink

Please, click the link and give today!

4-Corners.org is a 503(c)3 and a collaboration of the four neighborhoods whose corners meet at Richmond Beach Road and 8th Ave NW: Hillwood Neighborhood Association, Richmond Beach Community Association. Innis Arden Neighborhood, and Richmond Highlands Neighborhood Association. 4-Corners' mission is to build community and support the neighborhoods.

Sidewalk project completed on 1st Ave NE in the Echo Lake Neighborhood - all trees protected

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

New sidewalk on 1st NE. Photo by Gidget Terpstra

Two blocks of sidewalk on 1st Ave NE, wide enough for pedestrians and bicyclists, has just been completed.

The sidewalk runs between N 193rd Street and NE 195th St and replaces a ditch and a dirt path.

If you are wondering why the two streets have different geographical designations it's because 1st NE is the dividing line between N and NE. NE 195th is a road to the east of 1st Ave and a trail only to the west.

The new sidewalk /trail meets the 195th trail behind Holyrood Cemetery.

Project improvements include:
  • Shared-use pedestrian and bicycle facilities with curbs and gutters
  • Curb ramps
  • Drainage improvements

These improvements are part of the 2018 voter-approved effort to build and repair sidewalks throughout Shoreline. Visit the Projects and Initiatives sidewalk webpage for information on current projects.

Before construction started, the site was reviewed by an arborist who identified and evaluated each tree near the proposed sidewalk.

Based on the proposed plans for the site, all the assessed trees may be retained, and each of the trees will require tree protection measures during construction. An arborist shall be on site to monitor, document and assess any work within tree protection zones as outlined in this report.

No trees are planned for removal. One off-site tree, a Japanese maple below significant size will be transplanted by the property owner.

ELNA to get a look into the future of the neighborhood -- and the future of the city council

Saturday, September 18, 2021

ELNA monthly meeting Tuesday, September 21, 2021, 7-9pm on Zoom. Email to be sent the meeting link: ELNABoard@gmail.com

The Echo Lake Neighborhood will get a look into its future with guest Nathan Daum, Economic Development Program Manager for the city of Shoreline.

Traffic, development, 185th redesign, the transit station, townhouses, perhaps huge apartment buildings.

We're in the midst of major change right now. What will it be like in five years? Ten years? Will we be forced out of our homes? Will we be able to get out of our homes when commuters park across our driveways? What advantages will come with the changes?

We've asked Nate to look into his crystal ball and tell us our future.

We are pleased that all four people on the ballot for Shoreline City Council will join us to introduce themselves.

All four are running unopposed on the November ballot, so will be on the council come January 2022. Chris Roberts is the lone incumbent and Laura Mork, Eben Pobee, and John Ramsdell will be new. All have deep roots and involvement in the community.

North City and Meridian Park neighbors are particularly welcome to join us.
