Frolic at the Lake - ELNA event at Echo Lake Park has music, robots, recycling and good food

Sunday, August 22, 2021

The Echo Lake Neighborhood Association (ELNA) held its annual Frolic at the Lake on Thursday, August 19, 2021. The neighborhood event is held in Echo Lake Park and everyone was invited.

The Interurban Trail runs through the park so people were able to walk to the event - or discover it as they walked the Trail. The lake was reopened that morning after being closed for a high bacterial count, so a few people arrived on paddleboards.

Mark Ellis Trio

The Mark Ellis Trio entertained with music. The Shorewood - Shorecrest Robotics team brought two robots and explained them to a fascinated audience. The City of Shoreline was there with recycling information and coloring pages for the kids.

Food trucks Yummy Catch and Sweet Wheels

Yummy Catch, with an Asian seafood cuisine, and Sweet Wheels desserts were there. Some people stayed to eat while others got dinner / dessert to go.

Close to 100 people attended, coming and going during event hours.

The event organizers were Marla and Matt Tulio from ELNA. The event was subsidized with a neighborhood mini-grant from the City of Shoreline.

Monday, August 16, 2021

Come join the Echo Lake Neighborhood Association at Echo Lake Park on Thursday from 5-8pm for Frolic at the Lake. The park is located at N 200th and Ashworth, across from the bus terminal and on the Interurban Trail.

Buy your dinner from the Yummy Catch Asian Fusion Seafood truck and dessert from the Sweet Wheels Ice Cream truck. Stay for the entertainment or just get take out as you walk the Interurban Trail through the park.

Sit under the trees to listen to the Mark Ellis Trio or watch the antics of the Shoreline Robotics Society, made up of students from Shorewood and Shorecrest. They'll have two robots this year!

City of Shoreline / Cameron Reed will have the Sustainable Shoreline booth with special surprise giveaways as part of the “Choose to Reuse Challenge.”

Three regional agencies team up for Trees for Rail

Friday, July 23, 2021

Sound Transit, the City of Shoreline, and King Conservation District are pleased to announce Trees for Rail, a partnership to re-green the Lynnwood Link light rail corridor with native trees and shrubs as it passes through Shoreline.

The first of its kind partnership seeks to utilize King Conservation District’s County-wide Urban Tree Canopy program to establish native vegetation and tree canopy to reduce the impact on corridor-adjacent homeowners. This partnership leverages the resources of Sound Transit and will serve to meet Shoreline’s landscaping requirements.

Shoreline requires landscape buffers between the light rail corridor and residential neighborhoods, but in some locations there is not enough space on Sound Transit owned property or in the City right-of-way to plant these buffers. By working together, Shoreline, Sound Transit, and King Conservation District developed a plan to offer trees and shrubs to be planted at nearby homes or adjacent City rights-of-way in the impacted neighborhoods.

Eligible residents along the rail corridor in parts of the Ridgecrest, North City, and Ballinger neighborhoods can volunteer to receive native trees and shrubs, installed by KCD experts, free of charge.

Households also receive training on how to care for their plants with additional assistance if needed.

“This program builds on our existing commitment to plant thousands of trees along the Lynnwood Link alignment,” says Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff.
“We think teaming up with the City of Shoreline and bringing the expertise of KCD to homeowners in these areas will be a big win for residents and the environment.”

“We are excited about approaching rail corridor mitigation in this manner,” stated Shoreline Mayor Will Hall. “This new approach reduces the number of property acquisitions needed by Sound Transit while still ensuring there are adequate landscape buffers along the light rail corridor.”

Though construction of Lynnwood Link involved removing some trees, the reduction is only temporary.

Sound Transit will be planting 20,000 trees, nearly four times as many as it had to remove. The agency will maintain the newly planted trees along the alignment for up to 13 years, greatly improving their survival rates. King Conservation District’s role is to work directly with impacted residents – over 200 Shoreline homeowners in all.

“We’re excited to work with Shoreline residents to understand their planting options and select the right trees and shrubs to fit their needs,” says KCD Interim Director Cynthia Setel.

Eligible homeowners will be contacted by King Conservation District throughout the coming months and will begin planting later this year.

Eligible addresses are listed here: kingcd.org/treesforrail

Ridgecrest garage sales bring out the neighborhood

Tuesday, July 13, 2021

A great way to meet your neighbors

On Saturday, July 10, 2021 the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association held its annual garage sale day.

If you have large items, the driveway is the best location

It was more important than ever this year after the pandemic lockdown.

If you don't have a lot of items, outside the fence, in the shade of the tree works just fine

People were happy to get out in the sun, talk to their neighbors and score some great bargains in the process.

This one looks like fun!

Many people set up shop in their front yards, while others set up stations at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

If you missed the sales - there's always next year.

Shoreline: Appreciate Your Neighbors Night Tuesday, August 3, 2021

Friday, July 9, 2021

As we all start to transition to more in-person events, the City of Shoreline encourages neighbors to meet in small groups for National Night Out this year. What a great way to get to know your most immediate neighbors even better!

Since they expect gatherings to be small, the City of Shoreline does not intend to issue street closure permits. You are asked to host your parties in a driveway or yard away from the street and out of the Right of Way.

There is no registration required this summer. If you would like to have a City Councilmember or Shoreline Police representative visit your party, contact Constance Perenyi cperenyi@shorelinewa.gov

And let your neighborhood association know.

The Richmond Beach Celebration wraps up the month of May

Friday, May 28, 2021

By Teresa Pape
RBCA Executive Director

The Richmond Beach Celebration wraps up the month of May

Week 4: May 23-31, Get out and explore the community.

There are many ways you can get outside and explore the community not only this week but all though the summer.

Here are a few ideas:

Support the Richmond Beach Community Association
with a membership or donation and get a free sample tasting kit of smoked extra virgin olive oil from Richmond Beach’s own Cascade Fusion.

Find the RBCA tent on Saturday, May 29, near the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, starting at 10:00am and become a member for only $20. Limited quantities of tasting kits will be available.

The Shoreline Historical Museum Self-Guided Walking Tour:
take a self-guided tour of the old town of Richmond Beach with an updated map and location descriptions.

The tour is the result of a wonderful collaboration between the Richmond Beach Neighborhood Association (RBCA) and the Museum (SHM)!

Download the map from the SHM website at https://shorelinehistoricalmuseum.org/richmond-beach-walking-tour/ then follow along with a series of 35 recorded vignettes on the Richmond Beach YouTube channel, "RichmondBeachTV" describing each stop on the map, many with accompanying historical photos!

Expedition Richmond Beach: The last year has seen many of you spend more time walking around Richmond Beach. Some walkers tend to stay in their part of the neighborhood while others wander into the far corners of the community.

Ever wonder just how observant you have been (or can be) on your walks? The RBCA has posted pictures of a bunch of “interesting” spots in Richmond Beach ranging from garden art to weird stumps to secret paths to small streams you might have missed.

Richmond School 1891
The area was divided into four quadrants – northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast and organized the pictures into four albums, one for each quadrant.

Your challenge: pick a quadrant and go on an expedition to see how many of the spots you can find - there are four or five spots in each quadrant.

Some will probably be easy, some maybe not so easy, but all the pictures were taken from the sidewalk or roadway so there’s no need to sneak into anyone’s yard.

For a bigger challenge pick a quadrant you don’t normally walk in – it will be more fun exploring other areas and you will need to pay more attention to what you are walking by.

Find the details and pictures on the Richmond Beach Community Association’s website:

Whether you are searching for your favorite orca art piece, having fun at one of the many parks or walking along the bluff, our community has it all and getting outside and exploring the community is a perfect way to end the month-long Richmond Beach Celebration.
