Seattle cast of Fiddler

Fiddler on the Roof

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler On The Roof’s universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Hairspray - the Broadway musical at Shoreline Community College

Tuesday, May 13, 2014

The 1950's are out and change is in the air at Shoreline Community College Theater this Spring! Hairspray – the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical – is coming this weekend, May 16-18 and 23-25.

Produced by Charles Enlow, directed by Corey McDaniel, with choreography by Lee Ann Hittenberger, Hairspray is a family-friendly musical piled bouffant high with laughter, romance and toe-tapping tunes.

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray tells the story of the lovable plus-sized teen Tracy Turnblad and her one and only desire - to dance on the Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from outcast to star. She uses her new-found popularity to rise to the top, win over her heartthrob, pile on the hairspray, and makeover a TV network – all without mussing her 'do! You won’t want to miss this rocking and rolling show, with memorable tunes and laughter for the whole family!

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to present this award-winning show on the Shoreline stage,” comments Charles Enlow. “It’s like welcoming home an old friend,” as Hairspray originated at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle prior to its Broadway run in 2002. “Many of our pit musicians in this production are the original players in the 2002 5th Avenue run. The orchestra sounds fabulous!”

Now showing in Shoreline: Grease the Musical

Monday, May 12, 2014

Older cast in Grease
Courtesy Broadway Bound Children's Theatre

Casts from Broadway Bound Children's Theatre are now performing Grease the musical at the Auditorium of the Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st Ave NE (north end of campus)

Show dates run from May 9 to June 8. Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets for two versions of the show. The original is as presented on Broadway - Grease tickets.

The school version is shorter and more suitable in content for teens and subteens. This abridged version retains the fun-loving spirit and immortal songs that make Grease a favorite among rock and roll fans of all ages, but removes all profanity, lewd behavior, and Rizzo's Pregnancy scare. Since Rizzo's pregnancy scare is removed, the song "There Are Worst Things I Could Do" is also removed from this edition. Grease School Version tickets.

About Grease the Musical

Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical.
Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "It's Raining on Prom Night", "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.
An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

"Grease" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Shorecrest to present 'Oklahoma' as its spring musical

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

The Shorecrest High School drama department will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical “Oklahoma” from May 8 to 10 and 15 to 17 at 7:30pm and May 11 and 18 at 2pm in the school’s Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 and available through brownpapertickets or at the school.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theater still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the 20th century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.

Shrek the Musical at RBCC in Shoreline opens May 2

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a “short” temper, a truth-bending puppet, a cookie with an attitude, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand ... and his name is Shrek. The show is filled with lively music, lasting messages, a bit of irreverent humor, and offers something for everyone to love.

Is Shrek The Musical primarily for kids? Definitely not! Shrek is a story about inner beauty and being true to who you really are. It is about an outsider searching for his place in the world, something that is part of the human condition. Finding out where you fit and who you truly are – not who people say you are – is a journey we all go on at some point.
