Missing: Ralph the Box Turtle

Thursday, August 25, 2016

Ralph the box turtle has wandered away from his family and they are distraught.

Ralph is about 6 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 4 inches tall with a domed shell. His top shell is olive colored; bottom shell is hinged. His body is black with orange and yellow spots.

He was lost around 198th and Wallingford.

Box turtles do very well in this weather, so it's very likely he's still around. They like the heat of the day, and they like to burrow and hide in dark corners.

A box turtle is actually a tortoise, which is a land animal; he's not the kind of guy who would enjoy being put in the lake. (He'd drown.)

If you live in this area of the Echo Lake neighborhood, look around your yard.

If you find him, call Dawn at 206-650-0033 or Dean at 206-841-9329.

Protect pets from Fourth of July fireworks

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) offers these tips to help your pet cope with the noise from fireworks, and reduce the chance that it runs away.
  • Keep your pet secured indoors in the quietest room of your home while fireworks are audible. You can also use soothing music or television as a distraction. Some pets will stay calmer when placed in a secure crate in a darkened, quiet room.
  • If your pet is normally kept outside, bring them inside or put them in a well-ventilated garage or shed or in a basement while fireworks are going off.
  • Make sure your pet has at least two forms of identification. This can be a pet license and personalized tag, a license and a microchip, or all three (license, tag, and microchip). Pets with ID have a much greater chance of being returned to their owners.
  • Don't assume that your pet won’t react just because you haven’t had problems in the past. Sometimes, pets become sensitive to loud noises later in life.

If your pet is lost, check with PAWS, and check back often. It may take some time before spooked pets are brought to shelters.

FOUND: Canon Rebel camera bag on June 7, 2014 - Saturday

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

FOUND: Canon Rebel camera bag on June 7th, 2014 - Saturday

First of all, I want to apologize that this is late in sharing and worrying the person who owns this very nice canvas Canon Rebel camera bag.

This canvas camera bag was found on a picnic table where the Shorewood High School Prom photos were taken down in the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park on June 7th, 2014 - Saturday.

I am not sure if it belongs to the photographer who was hired to take the photos of the students for the Shorewood High School Prom or if this belongs to someone else who happened to be in the same area as we were that evening.

Please send an email if this is yours.

To verify the true owner of this camera bag, you will need to tell me what is in it.

Found: owner of dachshund

Sunday, May 18, 2014

Ollie was reunited with his owner

The dachshund who cheerfully wandered up to a Shoreline home has been reunited with its owner.

Ollie was wearing a rabies tag from Longview. The finders managed to follow a trail of phone numbers and get the name and phone number of Ollie's owner, who was visiting in Shoreline a few doors down.

Ollie managed to find a hole in the fence and wiggle through - not a problem for dachshunds, who are bred to hunt badgers through tunnels.

His owner came and picked him up and all is well.

"Since it didn't have a collar, I took the cat to Cats Exclusive to see if might have a microchip, but unfortunately he didn't.  The lady said the cat is a male between 4 and 5 years old.  It seems to be in good shape and is very sweet."

Do you recognize this photo?

Gustav A. Krause
Beta Theta Pi
Beloit, Wisconsin

Do you recognize this photo?

Shoreline resident Leanne Hofford is looking for the owner of this photo and several others that she found at the bottom of a box she picked up from the recycling bin at the Shoreline transfer station well over a year ago.

On the back of several of the photos is written the name Gustav A. Krause and Beloit, Wis. One photo is labeled on the back as the Beta Theta Pi house.

A little “googling’ brought up a record listing Gustav Adolphus Krause from Klamath Falls, Oregon as a member of Beta Theta Pi at Beloit College in 1910.

If you have any information about who may own this photo, please email Leanne.

Puppy: lost and found

Sunday, July 15, 2012

An Echo Lake neighborhood resident found this adorable puppy in his front yard.

His account:

"While pruning in my front yard this friendly puppy decided to visit.  It does not have a collar.  We took it to the Emergency Vet on 15th and it turns out it doesn’t have a chip.  So, we’re trying everything to find its family.
"I’ve walked the neighborhood with her hoping someone would be out looking for her, but no connections yet.  I’m sure when they get home they’ll be worried she’s gone, so I’m hoping between direct outreach and facebook and craig’s list and perhaps help from the Shoreline News we’ll reunite her with her family."

The family was trying to settle in for the night but the puppy had apparently realized that this was not home and she was uncomfortable and unhappy - and the family was wondering how they would get enough sleep to get up for work the next day.

So they were still up at 11:30pm when they would normally be in bed - and they heard someone on their quiet street, calling for "Ghia." Naturally, they went outside to talk and found a young couple who were hunting for their lost puppy. They provided a perfect description of the puppy.

"Ghia was one excited puppy when she saw them!  It’s good to know they cared enough to still be hunting the neighborhood at 11:30 at night for their puppy!  Probably why the dog had such a nice demeanor – caring owners."

Lost: Jefferson the cat is somewhere around south Echo Lake

Sunday, June 3, 2012

Jefferson should be home doing this
but he is lost in the south Echo Lake area

Jefferson lives at the Echo Lake condos - the large complex to the north of the new YMCA, between Aurora and Echo Lake at 194th.

He took advantage of an open door to explore outside his condo and was accidently left in the hallway. He was panicked and running around the halls and when someone came in, he was so desperate he went through a 4x8 window to the outside.

He was still running, so it is unsure how far he went. Chances are he is just far enough away that he has no idea how to find his way home. He's young, weighs almost 20 pounds (huge for a cat) and has distinctive yellow tabby markings.

If you see him, don't try to approach, but call his owner, Vicki at 206-546-6281.

Volunteers needed to help get missing pets back with their owners

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Regional Animal Services of King County teams with Missing Pet Partnership for “Mission Reunite” training

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) has joined with Missing Pet Partnership (MPP) to train volunteers for the “Mission Reunite: Help and Hope for Lost Pets” program. People who are interested in volunteering are invited to attend a training session on Saturday, March 24 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the King County Pet Adoption Center, 21615 64th Ave. S. in Kent.

MPP is a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping families who have lost their pets. Founder Kat Albrecht has been involved in tracking down missing pets since 1997, and founded MPP in 2001. Through this collaborative effort with MPP, RASKC volunteers will be trained to offer hands-on assistance to pet owners who have lost a dog or cat. Volunteers will also be trained to help people who come into the Pet Adoption Center looking for their missing pet, and to find the owners of lost pets that have already been picked up by RASKC.

“When a pet goes missing, it can be very upsetting,” said Sarah Luthens, manager of volunteer programs for RASKC. “Nationally, only 16 percent of lost dogs, and just two percent of lost cats, are ever reunited with their owners. The Mission Reunite program is a highly innovative, volunteer-based program that can improve those odds and re-connect lost pets with their families.”

People who are interested in becoming a Mission Reunite volunteer should RSVP or call 206-296-3946. For those who complete the March 24 training, a follow-up “hands-on” session is planned for March 31.

“While Mission Reunite can help re-connect lost pets with their owners, it’s also important for people to license and microchip their dog or cat,” added Luthens. “A pet that is licensed and microchipped has a much better chance of being reunited with its owner.”

For more information about pet licensing, volunteering for RASKC, or adopting a pet, visit or call 206-296-PETS (7387).
