City of Shoreline issues invitation to a yarn bombing

Thursday, May 18, 2023

Pride Month: Calling all knitters, crocheters, and fiber enthusiasts!

Every June, the City of Shoreline celebrates our LGBTQIA+ community by raising a pride flag at City Hall. This year, we continue our tradition of wrapping rainbows on trees throughout the Park at Town Center and across the City.

If you’ve ever wanted to participate in a “yarn bombing” event, this is your chance! You can make a wrap for trees in Shoreline parks or in your yards.

Please contact Constance Perenyi for more information on how to get started at cperenyi@shorelinewa.gov. We will start decorating on June 1, so get those needles and hooks warmed up and ready! All wraps will come down on June 30, 2023.

Social knitworking - the Crafty Community is at it again

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Join the Social Knitworking group

Shoreline Knitters – a Crafty Community – are at it again, their third year of helping those in need.

The Shoreline Knitters invite you to participate in their Social Knitworking Project for Winter 2014. This is the 3rd year knitters and crocheters will be donating washable winter items to our neighbors in need. In the past two years, the knitting community has donated hundreds of hats, scarves and mittens to Hopelink, Tent City, Center for Human Services, and Compass Veterans Housing, among others.

If you have machine washable hats, scarves or mittens you'd like to donate (either handmade or purchased), there is a drop off box at Shoreline City Hall in the lobby. You can also bring your donations to the weekly knitting group. They will deliver all donations to local charities this fall.

The Shoreline Knitters meet every Thursday from 1:00 - 3:30pm at Cafe Aroma (across from the Crest Theatre). All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. We work on personal as well as community projects.

Questions? Contact Susan Armstrong and/or Sis Polin.

Senior Center needs knitters

Display case of items created by Senior Center Handcrafters

Knitting Volunteers Needed Now!

The Shoreline-LFP Senior Center Handcrafters are greatly in need of experienced knitters! If you have ever been to the famous Holiday Bazaar, the Handcrafters provide all the beautiful items that are sold there.

Last year they sold over $4,000 worth of items even with the power outage that happened all day Saturday.

Unfortunately, if some experienced knitters do not volunteer to help with this every important craft, we might not be able to have the Handcrafters table at the 2014 Holiday Bazaar on Oct. 31st and Nov. 1st.

The Handcrafters meet every Monday from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Shoreline-LFP Senior Center in the Exercise Room. We have a very experienced facilitator, Donna Ault, who provides the yarn and pattern for the projects.

Drop by to meet the ladies that are there on Monday and see if it is something for you.

The Senior Center is located at 18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline 98155, 206-365-1536.

Women in Stitches yarn bomb Richmond Beach Park sign

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

International Yarn Bombing Day was June 8

Every Monday morning a group of women meet in a home in Richmond Beach to knit, crochet, and do handwork together. They call themselves Women In Stitches referring as much to the fun they have together as to the beautiful hand crafted garments they create.

Women in Stitches

Motivated by the Seuss-like trees they saw decorated last summer near Ronald Bog Park, the group decided to participate in International Yarn Bombing Day on June 8th. Together they created and installed a piece of yarn art to decorate the sign at the entrance to Richmond Beach Park. The piece will be up until June 14, 2013.
