Shorecrest High School Hip Hop Dance Team brings “Physical Poetry” to Shorecrest Performing Arts Center on January 8 - 9, 2016, 7:30pm, 15343 25th Ave NE, Shoreline.

Exciting, heart-stopping, foot-stomping dance forms including hip hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, tango, Croatian, Chinese traditional, modern, and more guarantee to keep attendees on the edge of their seats anticipating more.

Experience two spectacular evenings on Friday and Saturday, packed with amazing talent from the Greater Seattle Area, on one stage. This family friendly event will have the audience craving more!

Advanced tickets are $15 and can be purchased now online. Tickets are $18 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Shorecrest Hip Hop dance club.

SC Hip Hop Dance Team's purpose is to promote diversity within the community by utilizing hip hop dance as the medium. While learning teamwork, responsibility and dance, the team develops camaraderie and a sense of belonging with their teammates. Along with the awards and accomplishments received, SC Hip Hop continues to promote spirit and good will to their audiences. 

Awards include an Academic Excellence Award in 2006 and 2007, District Title wins from 2004-2015, State Championship Titles in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015 and National Titles in 2010, 2012, and 2015.

Shorecrest Hip Hop - State Champions


Shorecrest Hip Hop competed at the State Dance / Drill Championships held in Yakima at the Sundome on March 26-27th.

Our Varsity Hip Hop Team competed in the 1A/2A Hip Hop category and took 1st Place! 

Earlier in the month, the team captured their 10th consecutive District Title. The team completes the season winning a treble of titles as District, State, and National Champions.

Team consist of 17 students from Shorecrest High School with Captains Wendy Luu and Kevin Chhoom and Officers Angela De Venecia and Keelie Frisk.

State Dance / Drill Championships for Shorecrest and Shorewood this weekend.

Shorecrest Varsity Hip Hop Team took 1st Place at Districts for the 10th consecutive year in the Hip Hop category with Shorewood Hip Hop taking 5th place.

Shorewood Drill took 1st Place at Districts in the Military Category. All three teams will be competing at State in Yakima at the Sun Dome.



Competition runs from March 27-28th.

2014 Shorecrest Hip Hop Team

The Shorecrest Hip Hop Team, under the direction of coach Rex Kinney, competed at the Kentridge High School Invitational this past weekend on February 8, 2014.

The team took first place in the hip hop category.

Qualifying for Districts on March 8th, the group hopes to head back to State in Yakima to defend their 2013 State Title. Keelie Frisk from Shorecrest Hip Hop also took First in the 3A Drill Down competition.

Shorecrest Hip Hop has first place finish Saturday

The Shorecrest Hip Hop team, under coach Rex Kinney, started their competition season with a First Place finish at the Interlake HS Dance/Drill Competition this past Saturday December 14, 2013.

The team competed in the hip hop category against six other high schools including Ballard, Bishop Blanchet, Shorewood, Glacier Peak, Lynnwood, and Issaquah. The team is looking to defend their state title from last season.

Our Shorecrest HS Hip Hop Team competed at WIAA State Dance/Drill Championships yesterday (Friday) at the Yakima Sun Dome and took FIRST PLACE in the 3A Hip Hop Category!! 

Competing against 7 of the other best high schools in the state in our category, the Hip Hop team took top honors as well as having the highest score in the whole competition out of 60 performances in ALL categories and classifications 1A/2A/3A with a score of 281.4 (out of 300)!! The team finishes with an undefeated record for the season including the district title.

Shorecrest Hip Hop Team wins District #1 Championship, headed for State

Shorecrest Hip Hop Team, under Coach Rex Kinney
win the District #1 championship

The Shorecrest HS Hip Hop Team won the District #1 Championships this past weekend and will be moving forward to the State Championships!!

Competing against the other schools in the District, the hip hop team captured their 8th straight district title, having the highest score again out of all of the 17 routines that day and finishing on top in the hip hop category. 

Shorecrest will be performing in the 3A Hip Hop category at the State event being held at the Yakima Sun Dome on March 22-23rd. 3A/2A/1A along with Shorecrest will compete on Friday, with 4A schools competing on Saturday.

Shorecrest Hip Hop Team wins at Eastlake and qualifies for district competition

The Shorecrest Hip Hop Dance Team won their category at the competition held at Eastlake High School last weekend, vying against four other schools in the hip hop and show category.

The team scored 268 out of a possible 300. To qualify for district, teams need a minimum of 195 points in the category they want to compete in. The team has safely met that requirement in each of their competitions.

Coach Rex Kinney says, "This is the team's 3rd straight competition and win, with one more invitational competition at Decatur HS on February 23rd. Then the team will be getting ready for District to hopefully qualify for State in Yakima."

The Shorecrest Hip Hop Team was an entry at the WIAA’s “Salute to Spirit” dance and cheer district competition. The event was held at the University of Washington Alaska Airline Hec Edmundson Pavilion on Saturday Jan 26, 2013.

According to coach Rex Kinney, "This was a regular season competition in which the team qualified for District competition. We still have a couple more regular season competitions that will add more experience to our members." 

The team took first place over five other high school teams competing in the hip hop category. They have a competition this weekend at Eastlake High School.

Start off the new year by awakening your senses through Physical Poetry, a production of  10 to 15 professional dance troupes displaying their authentic expression of sound, rhythm, and movement in varied dance forms from Tango, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Modern, Salsa, Hip Hop and more.

Rex Kinney and Angelo Buelva, coaches of the Shorecrest Hip Hop Dance Team as well as professional dancers and choreographers themselves, pull together a fabulous show that happens once a year to a sold out audience. The Dance team started in 1993 with founder Candy Jimenez and its purpose is to promote diversity within our local community by using hip hop dance as its medium.

Coach Rex Kinney reports that "the kids competed Saturday and swept our category winning THREE national titles in the Extra Small & Small team size division and winning the Best Overall in Hip Hop!! The team has had a great time on our trip and will be returning Sunday evening after a day of sightseeing in Hollywood!"

Shorecrest 2012 Hip Hop Team takes First at District competition

The Hip Hop Team at Shorecrest High School competed at the District 1 Championships on Saturday and took home FIRST PLACE in the hip hop category! This was their SEVENTH consecutive District Title in the past 10 years. Team was lead by Captains Grace Masaoka, James Kim and Officers Zahra Masaoka and Peter Joo. Shorewood HS also competed at the Districts yesterday and took First Place in Show, Pom, Military Category. Both Shorewood and Shorecrest have qualified for the WIAA STATE DANCE/DRILL Championships at the Yakima Sun Dome on March 23-24th.

Additionally the Shorecrest Hip Hop Team will be leaving this Thursday March 8th to compete at a NATIONAL competition in Los Angeles, California. Their last trip to a National competition was in 2010 to New York City where they swept their categories with two routines winning First in Small and Medium Team Hip Hop and First place overall for all hip hop teams at that National event.

The Shorecrest Hip Hop Team will perform at the Moore Theater 7:30pm this Friday night, November 4, 2011, at the "Global Dance Party."

Produced by the Seattle Theatre Group, the Shorecrest group has been invited to perform and represent hip hop dance. Other Northwest dance companies will be showcasing African, tap, Chinese cultural dance, and jazz funk.


The evening promises to be high-energy, jump out of your seats entertainment!
