Ridgecrest Halloween Parade Saturday afternoon 3-5pm October 28, 2023

Tuesday, October 24, 2023

When Halloween rolled around during the pandemic in 2020, some Ridgecrest residents got very creative. They didn't want their kids to miss the fun of Halloween with the costumes and the candy but they certainly didn't want to risk COVID-19 for anyone.

So they created a parade. Participants - adults and children - would put on their costumes and walk on the streets, which would be closed, along a pre-set route. At the end of the route every child was given a bag of candy.

The parade was scheduled for daylight hours - 3-5pm - and everyone along the route was encouraged to set up lawn chairs and watch the parade.

It was a wild success. They did it again the next two years and no one wanted to give it up!

So this year, 2023, the parade is on again, scheduled as before on the Saturday before Halloween. from 3 - 5pm. Street closures are 2:30-5:30pm.

It starts at the corner of NE 165th and 8th NE in the Ridgecrest Neighborhood of Shoreline WA.

However, it is so successful that as of a day ago, organizers were short of candy. If you can, drop off some candy at the Drumlin,  522 NE 165th St, Shoreline, WA 98155 today through Thursday, 10-26-23.

Halloween at Seeley Lane

Seeley Lane is a cul de sac off Richmond Beach Road, west of 12th NW.

Witches are popular on the street

But ghosts and black cats get a turn.

Musical skeletons and sinister pumpkin heads add a unique touch.

At least one display is lighted. Love the cat eyes!

Halloween at the Monster Zoo

Monday, October 23, 2023

Story and photos by Patricia Hale

Amazing during the daytime and stunning at night. Halloween themed decorations at the Monster Zoo, 16255 8th Ave NE are sure to delight everyone 24/7/365.

What started out as a project for neighborhood children to get their visions of what a monster should look like turned into public art has turned into a bigger than life mixed media art display.

Right now it’s in the Halloween mode. Come December, it will all about Christmas.

The small monsters are always there to the delight of the area kids who created them.

In fact, so many children submitted their drawings, that there is monster art are also on display in several yards near by.

The large decorations were made and installed by the homeowners.

Spooky Songs of the Sea Halloween Concert Saturday October 28, 2023

Saturday, October 21, 2023

Spooky Songs of the Sea Halloween Concert at the Couth Buzzard in Greenwood.

William Pint and Felicia Dale are Seattle based folksingers who specialize in songs of the sea and their repertoire is seemingly endless.

For their Halloween Concert they pull from their nautical repertoire for ghostly sailors, haunted ships, cursed crews — plus some of their long time favorites of the season, "and a number of songs we've never played before a live audience! (talk about scary!)"

Saturday, October 28, 2023, 7:30pm at The Couth Buzzard bookstore 8310 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103, 206-436-2960

The Couth Buzzard is a bookstore / cafe, like a smaller and scruffier version of Third Place Books and Third Place Commons combined. You will need to go very early - the store is in the main business street of Greenwood and it will take a while to find parking on side streets.

They'll have coffee for sale but may not have food late in the evening - the menu looks good, though.

The performance space is also small and when it fills up, they set up chairs down the aisle. You can hear but not see.

But I'm an old folkie and I love Pint and Dale and the music they keep alive through their performances.
