Trick or Treat and Halloween party at LFP Town Center and Third Place Commons on Halloween night

Thursday, October 20, 2022

Halloween Night Trick-or-Treating and Free Magic Show at Third Place Commons!

The spooky countdown is on to one of the biggest events of the year at Third Place Commons, the annual Halloween Celebration!

First, in the lead-up to the big night both this weekend and next, the days are filled with great Halloween themed performances from the students of the Northwest Ballet Center and Seattle’s Performers.

Check the Third Place Commons online calendar for time and details about these and other events coming up, including great live music onstage (with an open dance floor) every Friday and Saturday night!

Then weeks of special Halloween themed festivities wrap up in a grand finale on Monday, October 31st – Halloween night. The fun begins with trick-or-treating for costumed kiddos across the Town Center at Lake Forest Park from 4 to 6pm.

Participating merchants are still being confirmed, but visit ThirdPlaceCommons.org as the event approaches for an updated list of merchants who will be giving out candy.

Following trick-or-treating at 6pm on the Third Place Commons stage, it’s time for the Spooky Magic Show with Jeff Evans! Perfect for kids of all ages, Jeff’s magic is sure to keep even the littlest witches and goblins entertained to the end.

Halloween at the Commons featuring Jeff Evans is sponsored in part by the good folks at the Friends of the Lake Forest Park Library, so thanks to them for making this fantastic, family event possible.

And remember that events at Third Place Commons are always free and open to everyone, so join in the fun!

Third Place Commons, a community-supported 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has been building community in the heart of Lake Forest Park for more than 20 years. Third Place Commons is located in Lake Forest Park Town Center at 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park 98155

Halloweentown #5 The Mayor of Halloweentown lives here

Wednesday, October 19, 2022

The Mayor of Halloweentown lives in this house just off Richmond Beach Road on “Seeley Lane” During daylight hours he is known as Tim Norton, D.C.

This is Bob. He's a ghost. He is friendly despite his appearance.

His friends are “Maggie” (short for Margaret) the witch. She likes to cackle. The skeleton brothers, “Billy Bob” and "Bobby Joe” play bluegrass music for passersby to enjoy.

In spite of what it says on the tombstones, these guys are not "Resting In Peace." They may just like bluegrass and want to join the party.

I do love Halloween and truly appreciate all the decorations. Lee took these photos in Richmond Beach.

I'm being optimistic by labeling this #1 - I hope there will be more.

Don't make her do all the work - uphold the pride of your neighborhood and send in those photos of outdoor decorations!

RBCA Halloween Carnival Saturday October 22, 2022

Sunday, October 9, 2022

Richmond Beach's Halloween Carnival Returns!
October 22, 3-7pm - Syre Elementary
Early opening for kids with special needs 2-3pm

Richmond Beach Community Association’s Halloween Carnival is planned for Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00pm, at Syre Elementary School 19545 12th Ave NW

Children of all ages and abilities and their guardians can scare up some fun at the carnival where they will find traditional carnival games with prizes, inflatables, food and more.

Children who have a particular way of seeing, hearing, moving, feeling, thinking, or perceiving the world are often not comfortable attending functions such as this due to the commotion of large crowds and noises.

To make the carnival accessible, kids with special needs and their families will have the gym to themselves for one hour from 2:00 to 3:00pm to play carnival games in a less busy environment while also allowing any modifications possible to meet their skills and abilities.

Their parents and/ or caretakers are invited to volunteer at the carnival and use the special skills and knowledge they possess to staff the carnival games during this hour.

Excited to help? Please email carnivalvolunteers@richmondbeachwa.org

Ah - back on duty.
Probably was shopping for the spiffy red striped outfit.

(no - I have no idea why the stripes are red. If I were more ambitious and less nocturnal I'd call Rod Crawford, "the spider man," at the Burke Museum, and ask him. Feel free.)

Ridgecrest Neighborhood Halloween Parade

Tuesday, November 2, 2021

The costumes were varied and creative

All photos by Steven H. Robinson

The Ridgecrest Neighborhood held their Second Annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 30. 2021 from 3 – 5pm.

Not sure about the blue creature, but there's definitely
a bottle of ketchup off to the right side.

The rules of the parade: Be prepared to have a lot of fun, laughs and a good time connecting with friends and neighbors. Celebrate Fall, Celebrate Halloween!

Dispensing candy down a chute from the 2nd floor

It was a Rain or Shine! event (and they got a beautiful, sunny day) with masks required, and social distancing, too. Other than that, anyone could participate in the parade! Kids, babies, parents, cousins. Grandparents – everyone was welcome!

Little Bee and Lumberjack at the Monster Zoo

Participants could decorate a wagon, wheelbarrow, bikes, or just walk - but no cars!

We found Waldo(s)!

At 3pm, Parade Marshall Cindy started the Parade at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, on the northeast corner of 8th and 165th.

It was a slow-moving parade as everyone stopped at every treat location

From there, the parade went south on 8th NE to the traffic circle on 160th. Then it headed north on 6th Ave NE, ending in the Drumlin/ Ridgecrest Pub parking lot.

During the parade, all the streets of the Parade route were closed to traffic.

Participants could start any time after 3pm. And those with lots of energy did the Parade loop more than once.

Those who lived along the Parade Route were encouraged to decorate and give candy to the participants. Everyone was invited to come out to watch the parade!

Treat tables marked the end of the route at the Ridgecrest Pub.
And if you weren't sure, there was a traffic cone stopping traffic,
aided by Rip Van Winkle.

Kids got a bag of candy at the end of the parade and there were treat tables in the parking lot next to Ridgecrest Pub / Drumlin staffed by neighborhood volunteers.

180th NE in Lake Forest Park was Halloween central

Monday, November 1, 2021

Residents on 180th Street NE in Lake Forest Park celebrated Halloween together.

Zombies showed up but superheroes were there, too.

Small but wise Yoda showed up with a powerful stroller.

Ghosts were there to help push the heavier buggies.

This dog is all dressed up for the party.

And this is one is very brave.

Farmer Bill was there to keep everyone happy with fresh pressed apple cider.

Neighbor Mark made sure the kids got their treats fast.

And musician Adrian Xavier was there playing his soulful Reggae and World Fusion music for all!

UW Medicine: Halloween fun is encouraged — with smart precautions

Halloween is this weekend, and celebrating is encouraged as long as you take steps to keep yourself and others safe.

That’s the advice of UW Medicine’s Dr. John Lynch, medical director of infection prevention and control at Harborview Medical Center.

“We can definitely celebrate Halloween. The things that I would put into place are thinking small – small pods, small groups, being outdoors,” says Lynch.

"Trick-or-treaters' best protection against COVID-19 is a medical-grade or cloth mask underneath any decorative mask that may be part of a costume.

“If your kids are out there, you want that mask [directly] against their face,” says Lynch. He encourages families to keep their candy-gathering group small. Consider grouping up with families and friends that you’ve spent time with during the pandemic.

Those handing out candy should be masked when opening the door to trick-or-treaters because it provides protection to children too young to be vaccinated.

As for handling candy, Lynch said, “I think what we've learned over this last year is that the likelihood of getting COVID-19 from a piece of candy is extremely small. Just handle it like you normally do. Wash your hands before you eat and enjoy your Halloween treats.”

If you plan to host or attend a small gathering this weekend, Lynch offers the following considerations.
  • Stay outdoors if the weather allows.
  • Wear a mask if indoors or around unvaccinated or at-risk people.
  • If indoors, ventilate your gathering space with open windows and doors.
  • Serve and enjoy food outdoors if possible or in a well-spaced area.
