The Third Place Commons Growing Our Community Garden annual fundraising breakfast is just about a week away on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

That means time is running out to get your tickets for the return of this popular community event.

A lively, fast-paced auction will once again be the highlight of the event, helmed by the one and only Ken Carson, longtime field host for the Seattle Sounders FC (and the Seahawks before that), heading up the fun!

Arts lovers will find plenty to love in this year’s auction, including a two-hour private event performance from the Upbeats Jazz Trio as well as tickets to some fabulous nights out from both the Fifth Avenue Theatre and Village Theatre.

Of course, in the year when the Friends of the Community Award honorees are none other than Roz Bird and the Secret Gardens of LFP Garden Tour Committee, you know there’s going to be a Gorgeous Garden Bundle on offer!

This year’s bundle includes gift cards from Sky Nursery and Westlake Ace Hardware, a two-hour consultation from professional landscape designer Colette Highberger, and naturally, two tickets to the garden tour.

A Garden for You & Me by Meenakshi Sinha.jpg

If the colors of a blooming garden make your heart sing, you won’t be able to resist artist Meenakshi Sinha’s beautiful work, “A Garden for You and Me” (36” x 36”, acrylic paint on stretched canvas).

In fact, you can bring this glorious garden home today if you don’t want to risk being outbid. Just buy it now for $500 by sending an email to Third Place Commons Executive Director Amy Whittenburg.

If you love a good meal, you’ll be delighted with a bevy of bundles spotlighting many of the best eateries in Lake Forest Park, Bothell, and Edmonds. And wine connoisseurs will be sharpening their corkscrews in anticipation of taking home the half-case of assorted red wines from the Kevin White Winery.

Looking for an adventure close to home? Why not bid on the Amped Adventure Electric Bike Rentals, the Town Center Experience Bundle, or the awesome Kenmore package featuring a Kenmore Air Flightseeing voucher and a delicious dinner at The Guest House? Or even closer to home, go on a grand adventure in your mind with a fabulous gift card from our friends at Third Place Books.

And if this hectic world has you tied up in knots, you’ll definitely want in on the Self-Care Package featuring a private pilates session from Pilates Northwest, a private yoga session from Moyo Yoga, and a gift certificate from A Better Day Salon.

As always, the big event will also feature a delicious breakfast courtesy of Honey Bear Bakery, live music, and the great company of friends, neighbors, and local business and community leaders.

Best of all, proceeds of the breakfast and auction provide vital operating funds for the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market and other programs of Third Place Commons. So don’t wait!

Shoreline Fire Team completes the Columbia Tower Stairclimb and raises over $12 thousand for LLS cancer society

Monday, March 11, 2024

The Shoreline Fire team

With a goal of raising $3 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), 2,000 active duty firefighters gathered from all over the world for the 2024 LLS Firefighter Stairclimb.

The 33rd annual event to climb the stairs of the Columbia Center was held on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Individually and collectively, firefighters and teams get pledges from supporters. Then they don their full gear including air bottles and head up the stairs.

The Stairclimb always sells out.

At 788 feet of vertical elevation, the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle stands as the second tallest building west of the Mississippi, and the tallest in Seattle. It takes 69 floors of stairs and 1,356 steps to reach the highly acclaimed sky view observatory overlooking the Emerald City.

The Shoreline Fire team raised $12,283. Donations are still be accepted here.

We can be proud that the Firefighter Stair Climb was created and fostered by Shoreline firefighter David Engler. In 2010, he wrote an article for the Shoreline Area News about his history with the event.

Local nonprofit raises awareness about food insecurity in Seattle during their 15th annual community meal

Thursday, March 7, 2024

Celebrate 15 years of community meals with North Helpline at their Horizon Community Meal on March 24, 2024.

Gather with community to raise awareness around food insecurity and raise funds for their essential food access and homelessness prevention programs!

At the Horizon Community Meal, all event attendees will enjoy culturally inclusive soups provided by local vendors, artisan bowls available for sale, a short program about North Helpline’s impact and how we can address food insecurity in our community, a raffle to raise funds, and opportunities for our community to connect.

We expect to welcome 400-500 community members to the Hangar 30 Bldg in Magnuson Park. This is a family-friendly event!

Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 1 - 4pm at Hangar 30 Building, Warren G. Magnuson Park, 6310 NE 74th St, Ste 109E, Seattle WA 98115

Tickets for sale here - Free 12 and under.

Everyone is invited to attend, enjoy a meal, and learn about the work we can all do together to keep food on the table and a roof overhead for our neighbors.

Rampant inflation, supply chain issues, threats to WIC funding, and the ending of COVID-era funding for programs like SNAP are putting increasing pressure on our Seattle community, as food banks across the King County region are seeing dramatic increases in visits.

North Helpline is a local nonprofit organization that provides access to food through two food banks and a home grocery delivery program. North Helpline also works on homelessness prevention through a direct financial assistance program for rent, utilities, and moving costs.

Over 500 people have registered for International Community Health Services’ (ICHS) 2024 Lunar New Year 5k Benefit, a family friendly community event for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.

A traditional lion dance accompanied by drums will commence at 8:50am, leading runners and walkers to the race starting line. The lion dance is an important ritual in Chinese tradition believed to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits on auspicious occasions.

The ICHS Foundation organized its first Lunar New Year 5K in 2016. The Lunar New Year 5K Benefit is now an annual fundraising event for ICHS to provide comprehensive healthcare services to people who are uninsured or unable to pay for healthcare.

In past years, it has not only funded patients to receive the care they need, but has also been a fun event for the community to come out and support ICHS and the patients it serves.

International Community Health Services is a federally qualified community health center that provides culturally and linguistically appropriate health services in over 70 languages to improve the wellness of King County’s diverse people and communities.

Since its founding in 1973, ICHS has grown from a single storefront clinic in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District with deep roots in the Asian Pacific Islander community, to a regional health care provider employing more than 600 staff and serving over 30,000 patients at 10 service locations.

Registration opens for the 2024 Lunar New Year 5K in Shoreline

Tuesday, January 2, 2024

The International Community Health Services Foundation has opened registration for the 2024 Lunar New Year 5K. This beloved family-friendly charity race will take place on Sunday February 25, 2024 in Shoreline, WA.

Lunar New Year 5K registration is open to all ages. All donations and race proceeds fund health services for uninsured or low-income ICHS patients who would otherwise not be able to afford them.

“By registering you’re doing more than committing to a healthy start of the Lunar New Year,” says Alice Braverman, ICHS Foundation Executive Director.
“You’re championing the cause of health access for all. Your registration will go directly to helping families pay for essential medical and dental services.”

Participants will run along the Interurban Trail — a paved pedestrian-only course that skirts the ICHS Shoreline Medical & Dental Clinic on Aurora Ave N. Participants may run or walk the course. The race will be professionally chip-timed for runners, as well as safely marked for walkers and families of all abilities.

Other than the race itself, the 2024 Lunar New Year 5k will also feature community organizations and other engagement opportunities that will be tabling at Aurora Rents throughout the event.

In continuation of the lessons and changes made during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2024 Lunar New Year 5K will also have a virtual participation option for those who want to participate by running their own 5K course of their choosing.

Registration is $40 with an early bird discounted price of $35 ending January 25, 2024.

Attendees under 10 or 65 and older can participate for free.
