Rainbow for Girls hosting Family Bingo in Shoreline Saturday to support Page Ahead Literacy

Monday, May 16, 2022

Hello There! My name is Sierra and I am a member of an awesome organization, Rainbow for Girls! Think of it as a junior sorority or leadership club for girls 11-20 years old.

It has helped build my confidence, provide service to my community and meet some lifelong friends. In addition I've gained leadership skills, public speaking, and event planning skills. I’ve been a member since I was 12 and now I’ve advanced to being a state officer this year.

Every year the State President chooses a service project the jurisdiction (of Washington and Idaho) raises money for throughout the year. This year it's Page Ahead Literacy Program

It’s an organization based in Seattle that provides books and learning resources to underprivileged/under-resourced children across the state. Since 1990, they’ve provided more than 3.5 Million books and have helped more than 950,000 kids.

I am hosting a Bingo Fundraiser with one of my state officer friends this Saturday, May 21st at 1pm at the Shoreline Masonic Center 753 N 185th St, Shoreline, WA 98133.

There will be a silent auction and concessions available - you won’t wanna miss out!

The theme is Seasons, so come dressed in the attire of your favorite season.

Admission is $10 which includes a game board, and for additional family members it’s only $5 each. All proceeds go to Page Ahead Literacy Program!

It will be great fun for the whole family. I would love to see you there!

Seattle Labor Chorus fundraising concert May 7, 2022

Tuesday, April 19, 2022

In the glorious, centuries-old tradition of labor movement music, the Seattle Labor Chorus offers an evening concert with inspirational stories of workers struggling for power to bring about social, economic, racial, and environmental justice.

Register to join this live-streamed event and make a financial contribution to keep the Labor Chorus on the move! If public health conditions allow, we will have room for a small live audience. Seating will be limited.

We have a goal of $17k this year and we are already at $5,000! Suggested donation: $20

During the registration process you can specify if you want to attend in-person. All people who would like to attend in person will need to wear a mask and have proof of vaccination. We will notify you by phone or email on May 1, 2022 if in-person is possible! Again, registration can be found here, https://buytickets.at/seattlelaborchorus/682445

We welcome everyone, no matter the amount donated. Contribute whatever you can. If you can give more than $20, that would be a great help to keep the Labor Chorus strong. Once you have registered, you will receive a Zoom link to join the concert.

The Labor Chorus is a non-profit, membership organization. All singers pay dues and contribute in other ways as well. Annual donations from unions and other labor organizations also enable us to support workers’ struggles at picket lines and rallies.

Financial support from our fans and supporters in the community is essential to cover expenses so we can keep singing for justice, safety, peace, and power for all working people. Our fundraising goal for this event is $17,000.

Local State Farm Agent joins forces with NO MORE to raise awareness of the need to end domestic violence, sexual assault

Tuesday, March 8, 2022

L-R: Shinae Jeong, Chelsea Roehm, Ashley Olson, Agent Wendi Valles, and James Valles.

The NO MORE Foundation is conducting its 2nd annual NO MORE Week Virtual 5k Walk/Run fundraiser this week. State Farm agents, along with the general public, are participating in order to support the critical work of NO MORE, a nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault.

The Virtual 5k is being held during NO MORE Week -- March 6th to March 13th -- an annual event when NO MORE and its allies shine a spotlight on the importance of stopping and preventing domestic and sexual violence. The NO MORE Week Virtual 5k also commemorates International Women’s Day (March 8th).

On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.

During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. According to UN Women, 1 in 2 women reported that they or a woman they know experienced a form of violence since the COVID-19 pandemic began. One in 4 women (23%) said that COVID-19 made things worse in terms of how safe they feel at home.

The race was created as a fun, easy way to get some exercise, raise awareness and much-needed funds for violence prevention. To encourage participation, the 5K is completed any time, in any way desired between March 7th and March 13th.
Participants can complete the 5K on their street, a neighborhood park, the local gym, treadmill, or favorite track.

Local State Farm agent Wendi Valles in Shoreline and her staff, along with family members, participated as a team for the cause.

Quick facts:
  • More than 1,000 State Farm Agents, Employees, Family and Friends have signed up to run
  • Over 9 Countries are participating (US, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and others)
  • Mariska Hargitay, who stars as Olivia in NBC’s Law and Order, has joined the cause and signed up for the run.
