Center for Human Services virtual auction this week

Tuesday, June 8, 2021

It is auction week for Center for Human Services.

The silent auction is open now and runs all week.

The event and live auction begin Thursday at 7:00pm. Door prizes for registered attendees will be drawn approximately every 15 minutes during the event.

Last year was CHS’s 50th anniversary but the annual auction was cancelled due to the pandemic. This event is your opportunity to  participate in the 50 (plus one) celebration.

The silent and live auctions are all filled with intriguing items and the event promises to be great fun.

Student and adult volunteers unloaded the cars as donors drove up to Shorewood. All you had to do was show up with items to donate.

Donations filled almost two trucks. "It would have been two," said senior class advisor Britt Harris but we had to stop early in order to have time to sort everything."

Goodwill pays the student group a set amount for each truck filled. The money will go to class activities.

Support for the Shorewood Class of 2021

Wednesday, May 26, 2021

Due to the pandemic, the Shorewood Class of 2021 has been unable to enjoy their senior year through typical means such as school functions, homecoming, senior breakfast, assemblies, and most importantly: prom.

Although prom cannot happen as we intended, the senior senators are holding a celebration event on June 5, 2021 from 7-10pm that is free for all seniors.

Unfortunately, our dream and our budget do not match as we were unable to host our typical number of fundraisers last and this year due to the COVID restrictions.

We want to make this a night to remember for all seniors, so we are reaching out to you in hopes that you can donate funds towards the Class of 2021’s event.

Any support is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for considering helping the senators make this event a fun and beautiful night for seniors to enjoy with their classmates.

To donate:
  1. Scan the QR code using your camera function on your phone or use this link: https://wa-shoreline.intouchreceipting.com/
  2. Shorewood parents: Log in as normal. Non-Shorewood parents: Scroll down to the bottom to create a Guest Account
  3. After logging in, search “senior” in the search bar to donate

Annual Gala for the Arts raises vital funds virtually and in person

Sunday, May 23, 2021

ShoreLake Arts would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s virtual and in person Gala for the Arts on May 15, 2021. Because of the amazing support from the community we were able to raise $95,393 for arts and culture!! This is absolutely one for the books. Thank you for making the event such a success!

Sunny weather made the event very pleasant

Held in person at the Nile Shrine Golf Club and simultaneously live streamed to more than 50 attendees at home, over 100 arts supporters enjoyed custom made take-home Gala boxes, happy hour with a specialty cocktail, plated dinner featuring filet mignon with prawns or portobello mushroom stack, a live and silent auction, and several musical performances from Jose Gonzalez and students from the Zhenlun Cello Orchestra.

Groovy Gala guests

The theme for this year was “Here Comes the Sun.” And not only did guests join in celebrating the coming of the summer with their modern style looks, but the actual sun made an appearance, which inspired one of the more pleasant mid-spring evenings.

Wine Toss Winner Emmanuel Arhu

We look forward to furthering our mission of cultivating creativity and inspiring our community through the arts! If you feel we need arts and culture now more than ever and are in a place of financial stability please consider donating today.

Nancy and Jack Malek were the winning bidders for these cakes

Thank you to our Gala sponsors, Jack Malek, Windermere Broker and Realtor, Alaska Airlines, and North City Law.

Thank you to Kind + Co for coordinating the Gala this year and helping us navigate the space between virtual and in person.

Arrangements by Kind + Company

And thank you to everyone who donated auction items!

2021 Dahlias for Seniors Tuber Sale Thursday to benefit the Senior Center

Sunday, May 2, 2021

2021 Dahlias for Seniors Tuber Sale
Thursday May 6, 2021 Noon-2pm

At the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center

“Yay, we’re going to make it through this – let’s plant dahlias!”

Ridgecrest resident John Hibbs will hold the 6th annual Dahlias for Seniors fundraiser this Thursday May 6, 2021 at Noon with a tubers-by-donation event at the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center (18560 1st Ave NE #1, Shoreline 98155).

Hibbs, who supervises the naturopathic clinic at the Senior Center, is an avid dahlia grower. Each year the fundraiser starts in May with a sale of extra tubers from Hibbs’ extensive dahlia beds in his Shoreline yard.

It is planting time now. Hibbs has more than 100 different varieties, and has the tubers of about 70 varieties left over for the sale this year.

Asking donation will be $2 for most tubers.

The event will be indoors in the Senior Center cafeteria, safely conducted per current guidelines. Masks will be required, and the ample space will allow for good distancing between display tables.

Bouquets at the Ridgecrest Pub last year. Photo by John Hibbs

When the summer bloom starts, bouquets of mixed dahlias will be available for the Dahlias for Seniors fundraiser at the Senior Center and at the Ridgecrest Pub (520 NE 165th Shoreline 98155), as well as to the Drumlin music and local food and brew venue next door.

Hibbs says that "With the warm Spring we’re having, dahlias should be blooming by mid-July."

Once the blooming season starts, fresh blooms will be delivered on Mondays and Wednesdays to the Senior Center, and Tuesdays-Fridays-Sundays to the Ridgecrest Pub and Drumlin.

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center, under the guidance of Executive Director Theresa LaCroix, is a priceless community resource. During the many months of lockdown and particular hardship for Shoreline’s seniors, our senior center continued to provide essential services.

This included fully prepared-and-delivered Meals On Wheels, social worker assistance, virtual exercise classes and social groups.

In coordination with the Shoreline Fire Department, the Senior Center initiated a Covid-19 vaccination program for homebound seniors.

The Senior Center is in the stand-alone building at the south end of the Shoreline Center, at 1st NE and NE 185th, and will offer bouquets at the counter beginning mid-July.

John Hibbs will have 70 varieties of dahlia tubers and answer questions at Thursday's tuber event.

The Ridgecrest Public House has been our fundraising Partner since the beginning, and has generously matched donations for bouquets they distribute. The RPH is a warm, friendly community hub, and chose responsibly to close for the time being during an earlier surge of COVID-19 risk.

The Drumlin is the Ridgecrest Pub’s neighbor-partner venue and second project of Megan Kogut, Shoreline community member extraordinaire, and the Drumlin is open and well worth a visit.

Both venues will support the 2021 Dahlias for Seniors project by offering the bouquets on their counters, beginning in about mid-July.

Please stop by these Shoreline gems, the Drumlin now and the RPH when it reopens, enjoy the company, and, when the blooming starts, pick up some flowers.

The Drumlin and the Ridgecrest Public House are located at 520 NE 165th St in Shoreline WA 98155 near the Crest Theatre.
