Senior Center Fundraiser: Happy Days on the Horizon

Tuesday, April 13, 2021

Older adults in our community need your help now more than ever.

In the presence of COVID, Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Senior Center requires your support to continue providing hot daily meals through our To-Go Delivery program, free social worker consultations, footcare by individual appointment, low cost fitness classes and support group meetings.

Our upcoming Virtual Fundraiser will raise needed funds so the Senior Center can continue to be a vital hub of social interaction for adults aged 50+.

From Zoom Exercise Classes to our Pen Pal Program or Clogging with Maureen, the Senior Center is dedicated to offering invigorating programs for our Members.

Our Virtual Fundraiser will kick-off at 10am PDT on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 with a heartfelt message from the SLFSPC family. For the rest of the week, we will be sharing daily messages and videos from the people that call the Senior Center a home away from home.

Sunday, March 28, 2021

Fresh baked buns, fresh ingredients - so good!

ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31
EAT A SUB, HELP A CHARITY

41 Seattle Area Jersey Mike’s Locations Will Donate
100% of Sales to Seattle Children's Hospital

Wondering what to eat and like helping others? Head to Jersey Mike’s Subs on Wednesday, March 31 and grab a sub, share a catering box with healthcare workers or order through the app for delivery and contactless pickup. Any way you slice it, 100 percent of your purchase will go to charity.

That’s right – on March 31, the hardworking teams at 41 Jersey Mike’s locations in the Seattle area will give every single dollar in sales, not just the profit, to Seattle Children's Hospital. It’s all part of Jersey Mike’s 11th Annual nationwide Day of Giving.

All month, generous customers have been making donations at more than 1,800 Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the nation during the 11th Annual “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign for local charities. On March 31 Day of Giving, it’s our turn to give and we’re giving it all away!

Wednesday, March 31, 2021– All day!
10am to 9pm

Locations in Washington here. Locally, we have Jersey Mike's in Aurora Village, 206-546-9050. (Across from Costco) 1289 N. 205th St

Aurora Village location

Steve Berry, who owns the AV store as well as stores in Mukilteo, Redmond/Overlake, and Lynnwood, says that

Our 4 locations tend to go a step further to encourage greater donations. A $5 donation and you get a Free Regular sized sub on your next visit. A $3 donation gets a Free Chip and Drink or a $1 gets you a -$1 off on your next visit.

Of course, just coming in for lunch on 3/31 and you’re donating.

During this year’s Month of Giving in March, Jersey Mike’s nationwide hopes to raise a record-breaking amount of more than $8 million for local charities striving to fulfill their missions and make a difference.

Since 2011, Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving has raised more than $32 million for charities where their stores are located.

Lake Forest Park police join forces with UW police to raise money for Special Olympics

Saturday, February 20, 2021

Lt. Zanella 2019 Polar Plunge
Lake Forest Park police have supported the Special Olympics for years, with multiple events each year to raise money for the cause.

This year Lieutenant Diego Zanella is again spearheading the project for LFP.

Some weeks ago, University of Washington Police Department (UWPD) Sergeant “Willy” Bergin and Zanella decided that their two police departments could combine forces to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Washington.

Special Olympics is a global movement of people who are trying to create a new world of inclusion and community, where every person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability.

Zanella talked about the changes to this year's events.

"Usually, the Polar Plunge is one of the top fundraising events that supports Special Olympics. We get together, we decide where to plunge, we raise money… and we jump in freezing waters!

'This year, due to Covid-19, the organizers decided that, although we may be miles apart, we can still come together virtually and “SIGN UP, SPLASH, and SHARE.”

See the video https://polarplungewa.com/ to find out how to Plunge virtually!

Chief Harden and Zanella, and UWPD officers and cadets, will participate in the event, which is scheduled on February 22-26, 2021 and the money raised between the two police departments will go entirely to Special Olympics to support children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Washington state.

'We are not sure yet how we are going to “splash” although it appeals to me to throw a bucket of cold water at my Chief… for charity of course!'

Fundraising page here https://impact.sowa.org/team/339070 for Team UW Police and Lake Forest Park Police

People can make online donations on our team fundraising page or mail a donation directly to Special Olympics Washington at Special Olympics Washington, C/O Polar Plunge, 2815 Second Ave, Suite 370, Seattle, WA 98121 (please be sure to include our team name with the donation!).
