Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) recognizes twelve varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.
Caleb Perry, a Junior, from King's High School was nominated by a community member and selected by WIAA staff as one of the Athletes of the Week for achievements in Football.
The King’s Knights erased six years of frustration last Saturday with a 42-21 victory over Hoquiam in the Class 1A state quarterfinals.
Or as the Knights referred to it, the “third round.”
After making it to the quarterfinal round in each of the the past six seasons — and losing each time — the Knights decided they were going to eliminate the word “quarterfinal” from their collective vocabulary and simply call the game “the third round.”
One can debate whether the linguistic game plan was a factor in last week’s victory, but the end result is that the Knights (11-1) get to play in the fourth round — or as it’s more commonly referred to, the semifinals.Read more

Heraldnet has a story about King's football defensive end Edmund Sundquist, who delayed surgery on a broken and hyperextended elbow to play his senior year with the team.
For those teams fortunate enough to be playing in mid-November, every player is a little worse for wear.King's defensive end Edmund Sundquist takes it to a whole new level. Sundquist was injured before the season even started.
The Knights senior broke his elbow and hyperextended it prior to King's season opener against Lynden. Sundquist opted to delay his surgery until after the season so he could play his senior year out with his teammates.
“The doctors told me, ‘You're going to need to have surgery and you'll be out for six-to-eight weeks. You could maybe come back for playoffs,'” Sundquist recalled. “As a senior, there's no way I'm sitting out for that. ... I've been playing football since I was in fourth grade. I played fall and then arena football, so I've played more than 10 seasons easily. I just love the game. Not playing was not an option for me.”
So Sundquist toughed it out and returned to be a force on the defensive line for King's.

"We were in man coverage and I was guarding Ronnie Gary, easily the best receiver I've ever had to cover," he explained. "I saw a slant and jumped it, but he ran a delete route (changed directions) and I was able to recover and get in front of him. The quarterback, one of my good friends Aaron Okamura, threw it up knowing it was a mismatch size-wise, but I jumped as high as I could, only meaning to bat it down, but I was able to get two hands on it and bring it down."
