Shorecrest Scots win against Lynnwood 20-15

Saturday, September 7, 2013

Friday night lights returned to the Puget Sound area, and the Shorecrest Scots celebrated by opening their season with a 20-15 win against Lynnwood.

Shorecrest of the Western Conference 3A South defeated Lynnwood of the Western Conference 4A South, 20-15, Friday, Sept. 6, at Edmonds Stadium.

The Scots got on the scoreboard first on a 25-yard Nik Hendricks pass to Aaron Kelly with 8:10 to play in the second quarter.  Kelly's PAT kick was blocked by half the Royals team, and the Scots took a 6-0 halftime lead.

Early in the second half, Lynnwood was stopped on downs near midfield. Hendricks scampered for a 52-yard score on the following play. Hendricks converted on the two-point conversion to give the Scots a 14-0 lead.

Lynnwood responded with a score of their own with 2:27 to play in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 14-7.

When a Scots fake punt failed to gain enough yards for a first down near mid-field, the Royals mounted a drive that threatened to tie the game. But on third-and-goal at the SC ten,  senior LB  Matt Brennan forced-and-recovered a fumble to quell the threat. QB Hendricks scooted for 43 yards on the next play to begin a drive that wound up seeing Michael Fisher finding paydirt from 9 yards out with just under 9 minutes to play.

Their 20-7 lead felt comfortable for about a minute, when the Scots gave up an 88-yard pass-and-run TD to the Royals. The 2-point conversion was good.  20-15, with 7:37 remaining in the game.

Shorecrest threatened to score in the game's last minute, even having a touchdown called back (on a holding penalty).

Shorecrest meets another Wesco 4A South team Friday in Everett with its game against Cascade, which won its opener from Shorewood, 28-14 at Shoreline Stadium. The Scots and Cascade meet at 5pm at Everett Memorial Stadium in the first game of a double header, with a game between Everett and Jackson scheduled for 8pm.

Scots open home play Sept. 20 against Kamiak, another Wesco 4A South team.

The Rotary Cup game is scheduled for October 11.

Football kick-off meeting for T-Bird Families

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Come to the Shoreline Stadium, 18560 1st Ave NE Shoreline 98155, on Tuesday May, 21st at 7:30pm to meet the coaching staff, learn about the program and get involved in T-Bird football!

T-Bird Football is one of the most exciting aspects of Shorewood community life. Friday night games are one of the largest and best social events where the whole city comes out to cheer for our team and each player knows that they are part of something big.

Each year our team grows stronger and stronger and this year we ask all our athletes to consider coming out to contribute to the team and to play under the lights at Shoreline Stadium. Whether your student has played for years or your student has never played football before, whether they are a freshman, a senior or anywhere in between, your student-athlete can make a contribution in football. The size of the turnout and the range of athletic talents can all make a contribution to success.

Shorewood football also offers young people a safe, organized athletic training program through the summer, a summer football camp, and a challenging fall season. Many of our football players participate in a wide variety of other activities and sports in addition to football and they look on their football experience as one of the highlights of high school.

CORRECTION: Everett 21, Shorewood 19

Saturday, October 27, 2012

By Evan Smith

In our story about Shorewood's 21-19 football loss at Everett Thursday, we had the correct score in the headline and in the story, but Shorewood's score by quarters was incorrect.

The correct score by quarters:

The loss left the T-birds with a 1-8 record (0-4 Wesco 3A South) going into a Friday, Nov. 2, home game against Stanwood, which had a 3-5 record (1-3 Wesco 3A North) going into a Friday, Oct. 26 home game with Shorecrest.

The Shorewood-Stanwood game is scheduled for Shoreline Stadium at 8 pm Nov. 2.

Everett has a 1-8 record (0-4 Wesco 3A North) going into a game at Shorecrest Friday, Nov. 2. The Everett-Shorecrest game at 5 pm Nov. 2 will be the first game of a double header at Shoreline Stadium.
