Ridgecrest food drive gathers 1,117 pounds of food for Hopelink

Sunday, January 5, 2020

Big THANK YOU to everyone who donated and helped with the Ridgecrest Food Drive!

Special thanks to Cafe Aroma and the Ridgecrest Pub for being the collection sites this year.

Each time we took donations in to Hopelink, they were so thankful. All donations to them have been down this year, so what we were able to collect was truly appreciated.

What we can do together as a "community" is incredible. Together we were able to donate 1,117 pounds of food to Hopelink - Shoreline's Food Bank.

Help Ridgecrest meet their Hopelink food drive goal

Sunday, December 29, 2019

Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association has organized a Holiday Food Drive for Hopelink, Shoreline's Food Bank, for 11 years.

This year, they raised the bar with the hopes of collecting 1,300 pounds of food.

With just 3 days left to go they still need to collect 369 pounds of non-perishable food.

Your help to reach the 1,300 goal is appreciated.

To make donating easy, there are two drop-off sites in the Ridgecrest Neighborhood.

To make things even easier for you, at Cafe Aroma, you can just drive up to the order window - you don't even have to get out of your car - just hand your donation through the window.

4 Corners Food Drive for Hopelink was a huge success

Monday, October 14, 2019

Volunteers collect food from shoppers
at the Richmond Beach QFC
The 6th Annual 4 Corners Food Drive for Hopelink, held Saturday, October 5, at the Richmond Beach QFC, was a huge success!

1540 pounds of food were collected, plus $125 in cash donations. That is record breaking - beating last year’s donations by 237 pounds.

According to a volunteer at Hopelink's food bank, this is a real bonus.

She said, “I know the food bank clients at Hopelink will truly benefit and appreciate the options all the donations will afford them.
"Most of us find it hard to imagine how difficult it is to do without things we take for granted. Things like mayonnaise, or taco seasoning, breakfast cereal or milk.
"Some of these are typically available at the food bank, but many of the things that can turn essential ingredients into tasty meals are not.
"Donations can often fill a special need. Like the guy who loves clam chowder and is so glad to see it on the shelves, or the diabetics finding cereal that's not coated in sugar.
"They all help make the lives of the clients richer. I'm so happy that our neighbors have been generous.”

As shoppers brought food, it was loaded in crates
for transportation to Hopelink
Thanks to Richmond Beach QFC for welcoming us at their doors and to the generous neighbors who so freely share their assets.

Thanks to the following individuals who stood outside in the cold for two hours greeting people and packing donations.
  • From Hillwood: Charlene Kaiser, Gretchen Brookes, Ann Erickson and Boni Biery
  • From Innis Arden: Victoria O’Classen, Dom Dellino and Marcie Bloom
  • From Richmond Beach: David Davis, Jenni Gallagher and her kids
  • From Richmond Highlands: Bill Becroft, Juliet Lovejoy and daughter Penelope, Pete Gerhard and Curt Pearce.

This is what 4-corners.org is all about, enhancing and strengthening our communities.

Ridgecrest Neighborhood exceeds their Food Drive goal

Friday, January 4, 2019

The Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association not only met their goal to collect 1000 pounds of food for Shoreline Hopelink - they exceeded it!

Over a two month food drive project during November and December they collected 1189.6 pounds of food and turned it over to Shoreline Hopelink for their food bank located at 17837 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline 98133 in the apartment building behind Ronald Methodist Church.

WE DID IT! Thanks to you, we beat our goal and did something great for the folks that use the food bank.

They had major help from two local businesses in downtown Ridgecrest: Café Aroma and the Ridgecrest Pub. Both businesses were collection points for food.

With the cafe opening early and the pub staying open late, food drop off was possible from 5:30am to midnight, seven days a week.

James Pabiniak, Hopelink Shoreline Food Bank Supervisor, responded with these comments.

The food provided from this drive goes a long way to feeding the hungry families we have in Shoreline. It means so much when the community can step up and donate high quality, hearty foods that are mostly within date.
December was our busiest month in our food bank yet, and receiving their food went a long way to ensuring that everyone was able to receive enough food this holiday season and especially for the months to come when donations usually slow down.

If you have food for the Shoreline Food Bank, drop it off at the front desk at Shoreline Hopelink, 17837 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline 98133

Beans at Meridian Park Elementary

Monday, December 17, 2018

For the Shoreline PTA Council Holiday Baskets, each school collects one kind of food. Their PTA coordinates the food drive, with the enthusiastic participation of the teachers and students.

Classrooms at the elementary level often compete against each other to see which can bring in the most.

Meridian Park was in charge of collecting cans of beans. Their goal was to collect 550 cans.

They got 1,515 cans!

If you missed the opportunity to donate, the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association food drive will continue to January 1, 2019 - and beans would be very welcome. (Information here)

Ridgecrest food drive aims to stock Hopelink food bank for winter

Sunday, December 16, 2018

Your donations of canned soup, canned tomato products
and breakfast items will go to Shoreline Hopelink
The Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association and business community deliberately time their annual food drive to help Hopelink provide for neighbors during the cold winter months, when donations typically are low.

They would love to see folks donate canned soup, canned tomato products and breakfast items because these are things that Hopelink can back-stock for after the holidays.

Following Christmas, Hopelink shelves get pretty bare as donations drop off. Since these suggested items are not traditional holiday food - Hopelink can use them as basic items for the Food Bank as needed.

The RNA has an ambitious goal to collect a thousand pounds of food. Last year's drive brought in 800 pounds of food.

The drive is not limited to the Ridgecrest neighborhood. They want to create the opportunity for everyone to donate.
Approach from westbound NE 165th
Café Aroma is at the corner of 5th NE and NE 165th
Google Maps

With that in mind, anyone can drop off non-perishable food donations at Café Aroma or the Ridgecrest Public House.

Both are located in the business district at NE 165th and 5th NE - "downtown Ridgecrest." (Think Crest Theatre)

The drive will continue until January 1, 2019 - and you are welcome to come by multiple times!

Drop off non-perishable food items at:
Café Aroma has a drive-thru - so you can get your coffee and drop off some cans of food without getting out of your car! (Editor's note: the coffee is very good!)

Stocking the food bank - Ridgecrest food drive

Saturday, November 17, 2018

The Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a Holiday Food Drive to support Hopelink - Shoreline's Food Bank.

Your donation will help families in Shoreline who have few resources have enough to eat during the holidays.

Please help our neighbors in need by bringing non-perishable food items to either of our partnering businesses.

Both are in the business district of Ridgecrest at 5th NE and NE 165th (think Crest Theatre)

Café Aroma, 509 NE 165th, open 5:30am-6pm, 7 days a week.

Ridgecrest Public House, 520 NE 165th,

  • open Mon - Wed from 4pm-Midnight,
  • Thurs - Sun from 2pm- midnight.

The Food Drive runs from now until the end of December. You do not have to limit your donations to one time.

If every person would donate a can of food a week, we could easily meet our 1,000 pound goal.

But please don't wait to make your donation. We have a lot of families right here in Ridgecrest who need help now.

--Thank you - the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association Board of Directors.

The foundation of a strong community starts with four corners. 4-Corners.org is made up of the neighborhoods of Hillwood, Innis Arden, Richmond Beach, and Richmond Highlands.
