Everett Film Festival 2024 Saturday April 6, 2024

Friday, March 8, 2024

The Everett film festival is proud to announce an exceptional lineup for our 2024 event, which we are delighted to be bringing back to the Everett Performing Arts Center this year.

The full day of films will take place Saturday, April 6, 2024, at EPAC, 2710 Wetmore Ave. in Everett.

Doors will open at 12:30pm, and eleven screenings, including documentaries, narrative features and shorts, will begin at 1pm and end at 9pm

Attendees can enjoy free popcorn and snacks, and, for the first 250 ticket purchasers, a free sandwich or salad.

Highlights include feature-length comedy/drama “You Hurt My Feelings,” with five award nominations and a win, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a novelist who overhears her husband disparaging her latest book.

Although this year’s fest is not themed, several films involving environmental issues emerged, so this year’s roster includes several short documentaries on the beauty and health of our forests, and on environmental concerns for Snohomish County’s rivers and lands.

Featured speakers at the event will include Monica Van Der Vieren, creator of “A River Dream,” and Tara Luckie, producer of “I Will Be a Farmer.”

The nonprofit Everett Film Festival has been engaging local film-lovers with quality international films since 1997.

Prices for the full day are: $50 adult, $40 seniors/students/military. Along with the complimentary items, it’s quite a deal. And no ads to watch!

The Right to Read - free film screening Wednesday, January 24, 2024

Tuesday, January 23, 2024

Shoreline School District and Shoreline PTA Council are hosting a free screening of the film "The Right to Read" this Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 6-8pm at the Shoreline Center Theater 18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155.

The film shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who are striving to see better reading instruction in American schools.

The activist featured in the film, Kareem Weaver, believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time. Recent data shows that nearly 40% of Washington 4th graders do not meet the basic reading standards for this grade level.

Shoreline students fared only slightly better - last year 37% of 4th graders did not meet standard on the Smarter Balanced ELA assessment (from the OSPI report card).

Many districts in our state, including Shoreline, have been slow to implement curriculums that better align with the science of reading and in the film you'll hear that Mr. Weaver and others are proponents for this to change.

This is an important opportunity to get informed about best practices in reading instruction, to learn what to ask school leaders about and to become involved in advocating for improved literacy teaching.

Come watch the film for free and then make sure to stay after for the discussion - we are very lucky to have Mr. Weaver joining us in person for this. You can RSVP to attend here. Limited childcare available for ages 2-12. Register for that here.

OPENING IN THEATERS DECEMBER 25 ~ “The Boys in the Boat” film directed by George Clooney and based on the book by Daniel James Brown.

Visit the new exhibit “Pulling Together: A Brief History of Rowing in Seattle” through June 2, 2024 at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), 860 Terry Ave. N., Seattle; mohai.org/visit

The movie, about the 1936 University of Washington rowing team - a group of ordinary young men who ended up winning gold in the Olympics in Hitler's Berlin, was shot in the English Cotswolds because Seattle has changed since then (and because the director, George Clooney, lives in England)
