Connecting with local actors in sustainable food

Thursday, September 22, 2022

To celebrate World Food Day this year, our bilingual community school, located in Shoreline WA, will focus on sustainable food - local, seasonal, organic, zero-waste, using green energy or new technology to minimize resources.

Are you a local actor in sustainable farming? Are you producing or farming near Shoreline? We would love to learn more about what you do. And we'd be happy to communicate your support to our families.

During the week, our students will cook together, share meals, play with their senses and get to engage with our community. Contact us by email office@northseattlefrenchschool.com OR help us spread the word...

The North Seattle French School is located in the south wing of the Shoreline Center at 18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline WA 98155.

Kids Day at the Market

Kids' Day at the Shoreline Farmers Market
All photos by Steven H. Robinson
Saturday, July 30, 2022 was Kids Day at the Shoreline Farmers Market, held at the 192nd / Aurora park 'n ride. Besides the expected berries, peaches, vegetables, and $15 bouquets of flowers, there were booths just for the kids and their families.

A tour guide with a sign that said "Kids Day Tour" took families on a tour of farm stands to meet farmers, find out what they grew, and why farming is important.

A separate tour took them to Rainy Day Bees to find out out the importance of bees in food production.

Besides the busking musician, there were temporary tattoos, card making, coloring, and the PoP booth (Power of Produce).

The market is held every Saturday during the summer from 10am to 2pm.

Sunday, July 17, 2022 is Crafts Day at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market

Tuesday, July 12, 2022

Get ready for a big day of shopping when a whole host of fabulous artists and crafters come to the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market this coming Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 10am to 2pm.

Crafts Day at the LFP Farmers Market is your one-day-only chance to shop a wide array of jewelry, clothes, greeting cards, leather goods, totes and bags, soaps, candles, garden art, photography, decorative items, and other original handicrafts by local creatives from across the region.

It’s your one-stop-shop for a bevy of beautiful, original work. So treat yourself to something special, dress up your home with some original artwork, or find the perfect gift for someone you love. There’s something for everyone at Crafts Day!

Naturally you can also count on the market for all your fresh and local food favorites. Fuel your healthy summer snacking with fruit from Martin Family Orchard, RP Guerrero Orchard, and Bautista. Stop by the Hayton and Sidhu Farms tents to get your fill of delicious berries. (It’s the end of strawberry season, so get there early for the best selection.)

And get your favorite row crops from folks like Alvarez, Cha New Life, Garden Treasures, and Gypsy Rows. (Yes, the yellow school bus is back!)

Need something special for your main dish? Get specialty pastas from La Pasta, chicken and eggs (plus veggies) from Well Fed Farm, or stop by Wilson Fish for the catch of the day. Then put the finishing touch on your table with fresh flowers, yummy dessert from Doll House Baked Goods, or a special bottle of wine from Lopez Island Vineyards.

If all that shopping makes you hungry, grab a snack like a sweet, frozen pop from Seattle Pops, freshly made kettle corn from Pop’s, or one of the most decadent and delicious specialty crisp rice treats you’ll ever taste, in a variety of designer flavors, from Brown and Toasted.

You can also grab lunch from Ola Mae’s BBQ, whose special this week will be a southern styled hamburger with a slice of sausage and bacon on top, along with all their regular offerings.

It will be a day of artistic discoveries and all your regular market favorites, so don’t miss it! The LFP Farmers Market, which is presented by Third Place Commons, takes place this Sunday (and every Sunday) from 10am to 2pm.

Third Place Commons is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been building real community in real space for over 20 years and now also offers online programs under the TPC At Home moniker. Letter to the Editor: Check out the Shoreline Farmers Market Saturday

Wednesday, June 29, 2022

To the Editor:

This past Saturday I stopped by the Shoreline Farmers Market in its new location at the Shoreline Park and Ride (192nd and Aurora). There was plenty of parking and access from Aurora and the neighborhood streets. And the Market is easily accessed from the Interurban Trail just across Aurora.

There were friendly vendors with fresh strawberries, cherries, vegetables, and a local wine. There were sweets and baked goods and the best fresh ravioli! I was there just before noon and one booth had already sold out of their organic meats. Next week I’ll go earlier.  There were booths featuring local artists and information booths for local groups including Save Shoreline Trees.

I spoke with a Medicare broker for several minutes. I admit, I was first attracted by the free gifts. He provided some friendly advice regarding the cost of prescriptions and never attempted to sell me anything. He did not take my information so I won’t be getting emails or any other type of follow up. I may contact him when my Advantage Plan renews closer to year end.

I stopped to listen to a musician playing guitar and singing. Unfortunately, I arrived just as the musician was taking a brief break. He had a bubble-making machine behind him and a young boy was absolutely delirious with excitement as he ran after the bubbles trying to catch them. His smile was HUGE!

For the COVID-conscious (like me) there was plenty of room to walk at a safe distance from others and many folks were wearing masks.

I saw people walking home from the Farmers Market, and I noticed they were all carrying bags of purchases.

I encourage everyone to stop by and support our City and our local farmers, artists, and the food trucks. The vendors vary from week to week so there's always something new to enjoy. And the Shoreline Market is one of the few that still welcomes dogs.

Shoreline Farmers Market finds a new home - Saturdays 10am - 2pm

Monday, June 6, 2022

The Shoreline Farmers Market opened for the season on Saturday, June 4, 2022. It's easy to see why they are so excited about their new location in the 192nd Park n Ride.

They are tucked into a corner of the lot with a backdrop of green grass and trees. Booths are arranged in a way that makes it easy to move around. The whole layout is cohesive in a way that previous locations did not accommodate.

Lined up against a line of trees and grass

Many booths held farm-fresh produce. Products, such as honey, and ready to eat food. A few information booths. Musicians.

Steve, the morning person, was there just after opening. Or maybe just before. A few people were still loading in, or unpacking cartons, or relaxing and talking to staff before the rush began.

The market is scheduling two musicians every Saturday

The whole scene really had the feel of a small town market day - which it is, of course. Entertainment, food, music, neighbors, and your weekly shopping.

The Shoreline Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 10am - 2pm at the Shoreline Park n Ride at N 192nd and Aurora Ave N.
