Birds, blossoms and brews greeted shoppers at Lake Forest Park's farmers market on Mother's Day

Monday, May 10, 2021

The LFP Farmers Market is the best place to buy fresh bouquets

Story and photos by Cynthia Sheridan

Birds, blossoms and brews greeted shoppers at Lake Forest Park's farmers market opening day Sunday May 3, 2021 which was also Mother's Day.

The sun was out for folks who sometimes had to wait in line when market capacity surged to over 150 (per COVID-19 rules).

Tin Dog Brewing is located in the SoDo District of Seattle. 30% of their business comes from local farmers markets. This Sunday they completely sold out everything they brought with them.

There were tasty food items, and plenty of craft items, as well as the usual selection of produce, with masks required and no pets allowed.

Plenty of moms walked by holding glorious spring bouquets purchased from the flower vendors.

Impromptu picnics sprung up around the parking lot as families "too hungry to wait" enjoyed their purchases.

The market will be open Sundays 10:00am to 2:00pm throughout the summer.

Get Your Mother’s Day Flowers at the LFP Farmers Market - Sunday, May 9th

Tuesday, May 4, 2021

The ever popular Lake Forest Park Farmers Market opens this Sunday, May 9, 2021 (10am to 2pm), and it will once again be chock-full of your favorite market fresh foods and flowers.

For many folks, it just wouldn’t be Mother’s Day without a spectacular bouquet from the market for every mom in your life. And you can count on the LFP Farmers Market to be overflowing with glorious arrangements of spring flowers for every taste!

Of course, the market is also the go-to destination for farm-fresh produce, meat, and eggs as well as fish, baked goods, wine, and loads of fabulous, locally produced goodies.

In addition to all the longtime flower vendors, other returning vendors include:

Alvarez Organic Farms (organic row crops)
Bautista Farm (row crops)
Beekeepers Secret (honey)
Cha New Life Garden (row crops/ flowers)
Doll House Baked Goods
Garden Treasures (row crops)
Greenwood Cider (hard cider)
La Pasta LLC (pasta and sauces)
Lopez Island Vineyards
Martin Family Orchard (orchard fruit)
Mollie Bear Farm (lamb and chicken)
Patty Pan (frozen tamales)
Seattle Pops
Shen Zen Tea (kombucha and teas)
Sidhu Farms (tomato plants/ frozen berries)
Well Fed Farm (row crops, pork, chicken, eggs)
Wilson Fish Markets (fresh and smoked salmon, fish)

The market will also welcome some new additions to the line-up like Pop’s Kettle Corn (take out only, no onsite eating) and Tin Dog Brewery.

Meanwhile, other favorite vendors will be at the market this year under new names. Cascade Valley Farm is the new name for Rainier Salsa, but don’t worry, they’ll still have that delicious salsa and chips, as well hummus and other new items. And Sua Yang Flowers is now Long Farm – new name, same beautiful flowers!

Of course, some of the most popular vendors for berries, row crops, and stone fruits don’t join the market until later in the season. So until then, you can also shop the market for some wonderful garden art from guest vendors including Forest Green Enterprises, Metalwings Studio, Lady Belle Creations, and Finches and Feathers.

Lake Forest Park Farmers Market opens Sunday May 9

Thursday, April 29, 2021

Great news, market season is almost here! The Lake Forest Park Farmers Market Opening Day is Sunday, May 9, 2021 from 10am to 2pm.

That’s right, the market will open as always on Mother’s Day, just in time for you to pick-up glorious bouquets of spring flowers for all the moms in your life.

You’ll also get to shop your favorite vendors for fresh and delicious goodies of all kinds. From Garden Treasures and Bautista to Wilson Fish and Doll House Baked Goods, there will be something fresh and amazing at every turn. (More details on the vendor line-up coming soon.)

You may recall that last season, the market underwent a number of changes to ensure the safety of everyone – shoppers, vendors, volunteers, and staff alike.

As things begin to open up, the health department has permitted some changes that translate to great news for you. For instance, the market will be permitted more booths and more shoppers this year, which means fewer lines and more of your favorite vendors at the market. Hooray!

However, consistent with health department requirements, everyone will still be required to wear masks and to maintain physical distances of 6’ or more, and there will still be a single, designated entry.

Shoppers are also still requested to shop quickly and send only one person per household to do the shopping so that as many people as possible can move quickly, easily, and safely through the market.

In addition, many vendors will still be offering pre-orders to speed up your visits to the market, so check the Third Place Commons website for details. (A list will be uploaded and updated as details become available.)

The LFP Farmers Market is a program of Third Place Commons and it’s your support that makes it possible. If you love the LFP Farmers Market and Third Place Commons, please consider making a gift for GiveBIG here.

Jobs: Two positions at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market

Wednesday, March 24, 2021

Third Place Commons currently has two open positions for the 2021 season at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market.

The LFP Farmers Market, a food and plant focused market beginning its 16th season, is a friendly, well-established community of long-time vendors and dedicated shoppers. The market operated safely throughout the 2020 market season thanks to strict protocols and continues to offer one of the safest shopping experiences possible in a fresh, open air environment.

The market is seeking to fill two positions for the coming season – Market Manager and Info Booth Set-up Assistant. Read brief descriptions below and get full details at ThirdPlaceCommons.org/jobs.

Both positions will remain open until filled. However, priority consideration will be given to applications received by Monday, April 12th.

Market Manager
Oversees the safe, daily operations of the market, including set-up, take-down, and operation during open hours, while upholding the guidelines and policies of the market and all local, county, and state authorities. Also processes weekly vendor payments and reimbursements, sales and deposit reports, and weekly deposits during the season. This is a seasonal, contract position that will start on or before the start of the season on May 9th and run through October 17th plus any post-season responsibilities.

Info Booth Set-up Assistant
The Info Booth Set-up Assistant is an integral part of the weekly market process. Position requires a strong, highly responsible individual to load-in and load-out our info booth essentials and signage each Sunday. Training provided. Use of personal vehicle required. This is a seasonal, contract position that will start May 9th and run through October 17th.

This position was filled by a volunteer in 2020, but will be a paid position this year! Pay is $100 per market day for an average of 1.5-2 hours total.

The Lake Forest Park Farmers Market is a program of Third Place Commons, a community-supported 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been building community in the heart of Lake Forest Park for more than 20 years. Shoreline Farmers Market ends on a high note

Monday, October 12, 2020

The 2020 farmers market season began with great uncertainty and 18 weeks later ended on a high note!

The Shoreline Farmers Market is a special place where neighbors can come together to support local farmers and small businesses. It is a place where kids can roam the market safely and learn more about seasonal produce. It's a place where you'll be greeted by volunteers who have been there since day one (yes, most of our volunteers have been volunteering their time for 9 years).

It's a place where you can double your EBT and stretch your dollars buying the freshest local produce around. The farmers market is a place where we can come together as a community and support the things that matter the most to us: community and unity.

We cannot express our gratitude enough at the support the Shoreline community has shown the market and our hard working vendors. We thank you for understanding our rules that were there to keep you, vendors and our volunteers safe.

We thank you for showing up to support local producers and learn more about their struggles during the pandemic. We thank you for your individual donations that kept the market running during a challenging time. We thank you for showing up with a smile! THANK YOU!

During the off season our staff are working on finding a permanent location for seasons to come. We will be evaluating our market structure to ensure the safest shopping experience if we are still battling a pandemic.

We will be continuing to promote and support our vendors to ensure their businesses success. And for the kids missing our PoP Program, stay tuned because we will be releasing fun and educational videos to keep them engaged and interested in fruits and vegetables while the market is closed. For the most up to date information follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

From all of us at the Shoreline Farmers Market thank you for a fantastic season. We can't wait to see you back again in June.

Every Vote Counts! A two-part series on democratic process

Tuesday, September 8, 2020

Every Vote Counts! A two-part series on democratic process

Third Place Commons programs have moved online with a calendar full of free programs to bring you and your Commons community together all month long.

In addition to weekly Spanish, French, and German conversation groups and other fun monthly offerings, this month the Commons features two special programs just in time for election season.

Every Vote Counts! A Two-Part Series on Democratic Process takes a look at vital nuts and bolts of democracy from registering voters to how their votes are counted.

First up, on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at 7pm, Third Place Commons partners with the League of Women Voters to present “Be a Voter Ambassador through Touchless Voter Registration!”

In this program, you will learn how to register to vote in Washington and how to teach others to use their phones to register. The webinar will also take a look at the barriers that new voters experience and how to overcome them. Register here.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 7pm, sign in for “Fostering Democracy through Ranked Choice Voting,” presented by FairVote Washington. Ranked Choice Voting provides a more meaningful way for people to vote and completely eliminates the need to vote for “the lesser of two evils.” Join in this informative session to find out more about how it works and how to make it happen. Register here.

As always, all events from Third Place Commons are free, but registration for these sessions will be required for planning purposes. To register for each event, use the links above or visit the Third Place Commons online calendar, select the event you wish to attend, and click the Zoom link. (Recurring events do not require registration.)

Third Place Commons, a community supported 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is celebrating its 20th anniversary of building real community in the heart of Lake Forest Park.

In addition to presenting its largest program, the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market, through October 18th, Third Place Commons now also fosters real community in digital space.

Delicious goodies at the Shoreline Farmers Market Saturday

Friday, August 21, 2020

Shoreline Farmers Market - Saturday - 10am to 3pm - Shoreline Place

You'll find a variety of delicious goodies on Saturday at the Shoreline Farmers Market, held on the upper level of Shoreline Place, near Central Market at N 155th and Westminster Way.

The best part about the summer (well, there are lots of favorites, but a top favorite) is the abundance of delicious produce! August is a great time to dive deep into the world of stone fruit, tomatoes, melons, and peppers, to name a few.

Although the farmers market is small this year (due to COVID restrictions) we take pride in having a wide variety of vendors and products for you. If it's on your shopping list, we probably have it!

For the next two weeks we are asking the Shoreline community to come together and help us raise $10K by August 31st.

While our revenues have decreased our operating costs have increased.

Right now we need the support of the Shoreline community to help us operate safely and keep our market open.

Please consider donating any amount that you can to support this amazing market, our fantastic farmers, and our important food access programs. It’s important now, more than ever, to provide a space for the community to shop for fresh local food in a safe outdoor experience.

Still plenty of selection at the LFP farmers market
Sunday from 10am to 2pm the Third Place Commons Farmers Market will be held in the lower parking lot at Town Center, intersection Bothell and Ballinger Way NE.

To meet the COVID-19 requirements for outdoor farmers markets, there are half the number of booths as in previous years - but everything is still available - produce, flowers, baked goods.

There is a line to enter so the number of people shopping can be controlled and a one-direction route through the booths helps promote the 6 feet of separation.

Shoppers are allowed at each booth one at a time.

Vendors are wearing masks and of course, shoppers are too.

Everything is fresh picked or hand made.
