Donate your old clothes, shoes, bags, and fabric swatches this weekend

On average Americans throw away 70 pounds of clothing a year! When you recycle your clothing it is turned into a post-consumer fiber.

This fiber is repurposed into useful materials such as insulation, carpet padding, and even raw materials for the auto industry. Your t-shirt can have many lives and uses once it leaves your closet!

The Shoreline Farmers Market is partnering with community sponsor, Recology

When you bring your items to the market you can learn more about the recycling process and check out Recology's array of waste-free times. Accepting clean and dry: clothes, shoes, bags, towels, sheets, and scrap fabrics.

Please pre-bag your items.

Fresh this week: Peaches - Pickling Cucumbers - Fresh Basil - Blueberries - Kale - Corn - Dried Beans - Parsley - Garlic - Spring Onions - Eggs - Sunflowers

Photos: LFP Farmers Market opening on Mother's Day has something for everyone - and lunch, too

Wednesday, May 15, 2019

There are always places to eat lunch at the market

Photos by Jerry Pickard

Opening day at the LFP Farmers Market was a huge success! All the usual vendors were there plus a few new ones. Despite the cloudy and cold weather shoppers were abundant and buying fresh fruits and vegetables all day. There were some crafts also and lots of flowers for Mom's on their day.

The weather cleared in the afternoon and warmed up making it very hard to find parking in both upper and lower lots.

The market is open every Sunday from 10am to 3pm. All the produce is organic or the producers is in the multi-year process of being certified organic.

Vespucci Pizza brought a new oven this year but the entertainment was in the preparation

Drummin' Up Wontons was a popular booth.

The Market is the perfect place to get a bouquet of beautiful, fresh flowers - they last a very long time because they are picked that morning.

Two long-time vendors with amazing fruits and vegetables.

Have dessert at the market, then take some home for later.

Cylvia and Son of C and G Plants sold potted plants.

CedarSchemes is a local business that makes planters out of cedar.

A large number of the booths are family businesses.

There is much more - craft booths, eggs, fish, meat, ice cream, tea, cider, and the Bee Lady with her honey. Treasures await at the LFP Farmers Market.

Did we mention popcorn?

Chef Naomi's recipes

Wednesday, December 19, 2018

Chef Naomi

If you went to the Shoreline Farmers Market at Shoreline Place last summer, you saw Chef Naomi slicing and dicing at her spot in the Chef Tent at the end of the aisle closest to Central Market.

Every Saturday, Chef Naomi would shop the Shoreline Farmers Market, buying the in-season produce and other foodstuffs. She would take her finds to the Chef Tent and create a dish on the spot.

Central Market partnered with the Farmers Market to provide Chef Naomi the use of their commercial kitchen for the things she couldn't do at her tent.

She would bring out the completed dish, give samples to shoppers, and hand out her recipes.

Now her recipes are all online. It may be a little more difficult to get the farm fresh ingredients in the winter - but spring will come and with it, the openings of the farmers markets.

This will give you plenty of time to plan ahead.
