If you hold tickets for any event, Seafair will be in contact with you via email shortly. Seafair is committed to be a catalyst to reunite community and celebrate again in 2021.

Canceled events for this year include the

  • Fourth of July celebration at Gas Works Park and Lake Union Park
  • Milk Carton Derby
  • Seafair Triathlon
  • Torchlight Run
  • Torchlight Parade
  • Seafair Weekend Festival

Richmond Beach Community Association’s annual events looking different this year

Saturday, May 9, 2020

Unfortunately, with the City of Shoreline’s recent announcement of the citywide cancellation of summer events in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Richmond Beach Community Association (RBCA) will be unable to host some of their summer events this year including the Sandcastle Contest, Food Trucks and National Night Out.

“It pains us to announce the cancellation of our beloved summer events.” said Teresa Pape, Executive Director of the Richmond Beach Community Association.
“Families come together during the summer to build sandcastles, enjoy food trucks and get to know neighbors. We must follow the lead of the City of Shoreline because the health and safety of our community is a priority at this time.”

The RBCA is dedicated to bringing the community together, now more than ever.

“Things just need to look a bit different this year and that’s okay.” commented Pape.

The RBCA is experimenting with new ways of hosting favorite events. For example, the Garden Tour is going virtual this year.

“We didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to showcase the wonderful gardens in our community.” said Pape.

The RBCA Board has formed an event planning committee, ready to create new ways of bringing the community together.
“We’ve got some ideas in the works and we may even create a new family favorite event.” commented Pape enthusiastically.

The Richmond Beach Community Association presents 15 events a year including the Strawberry Festival, Halloween Carnival, Turkey Day Fun Run and the Community Tree Lighting, however it is the smaller sized events like the Garden Tour, Sandcastle Contest, Food Trucks and National Night Out that make the Richmond Beach community so unique.

“We are all living in this new world and learning to adapt. I believe Richmond Beach is resilient and we will find ways to continue building community together.” shared Pape.

You can support the RBCA by becoming a member, renewing your membership or making an additional financial donation. The cost for an annual individual membership is just $20. Or if you simply want to donate to help support the RBCA, you can do so online through their webpage or by sending a check to P.O. Box 60186 Richmond Beach, WA 98160.

Shoreline cancels summer events and classes; summer day camp offerings reduced to meet health and safety guidelines

Thursday, May 7, 2020

Celebrate Shoreline and all summer events are cancelled for 2020

From the City of Shoreline

The City of Shoreline regrets to announce that our annual array of citywide summer celebrations, neighborhood events, and recreation classes will be cancelled this year in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Popular summer camps are being reconfigured
Current registrations are being cancelled

We will also need to redesign and limit participants to our summer day camps to meet health and safety guidelines.

This will require us to cancel current camp registrations and open new registration for the new camp offerings.

This was not an easy decision for us to make. Residents throughout the community look forward to these events every year. And our summer camps are extremely popular.

However, in order to help keep our community healthy, we simply cannot operate as we have in the past. During these unprecedented times, we have been taking and will continue to take the steps needed to ensure the health and safety of Shoreline residents, businesses, and employees. We have modified our operations to follow county, state, and federal disease-prevention guidelines.

While we are canceling all current camp registrations, we WILL be offering some summer camps, structured to meet health and safety needs.

Scheduled camps have been cancelled
Different types of camps will be offered

As a result, there will be fewer camp spaces this summer. We will reach out to all current camp registrants via email alerting them to the new camp offerings soon. The City will provide full refunds to current camp registrants for any fees already collected. We will also post information on the City’s website as it becomes available and will alert the public with more information on new camp registration in the next few weeks.

While we won’t be able to gather for our annual celebrations and events, we are also looking at ways to ensure we can still celebrate

We are working with our partner organizations and neighborhood associations to find ways to capture some of the community and creativity of summer events through other means. Now more than ever it is important for us to make those community connections, even if they are done from a distance. We will keep you informed as we develop these alternative “gatherings” and encourage everyone to find a way to stay connected.

Shoreline Arts Festival 2020 cancelled

Saturday, April 18, 2020

In light of the current stay-at-home orders, and what we perceive to be an unlikely lifting of the ban on large events this summer, the Board and Staff of the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council have decided to cancel the Shoreline Arts Festival for 2020.

The Arts Festival will be back in June 2021 bigger and better than ever, as we find ourselves (hopefully) on the other side of this pandemic and ready to celebrate creativity with our community again. Thank you for your continued support!

Some 2020 Festival activities like Youth Art and Juried Art will move online. If you're interested in registering your artwork for these events, please visit our Festival website for additional information. Updates regarding these activities will be posted soon.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for more virtual events coming soon from the Arts Council! We are committed to the idea that Creativity Can't be Quarantined, and have some new (social distancing approved) creative outlets coming to the community this spring and summer.

The Shoreline Arts Festival is a program of the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council with major support from the City of Shoreline, City of Lake Forest Park, Jack Malek Realtor, Alaska Airlines, and 4Culture.

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate creativity and inspire our community through the arts.

Edmonds Arts Festival 2020 cancelled

Sunday, March 22, 2020

The Edmonds Arts Festival and Foundation announces that the June 2020 Edmonds Arts Festival and associated events have been canceled to assure the health and safety of our community members, artists, volunteers, visitors, and District school children.

Festival President, Barbara Norgaard Reid, stated, “This was a difficult decision for our Board members, who put in countless hours all year round to produce the Festival.
"Having to cancel for the first time in 64 years, even though it was for the right reasons, saddened us, as we love putting on the Festival and are proud of our contribution to the Edmonds community, to the arts, and to the artists.”

Arts Festival and Foundation members look forward to presenting a very robust Festival in summer 2021 and will be looking forward for other opportunities to support the arts in Edmonds throughout this year and next.

Information regarding next steps and refunds for artists, vendors, and others will soon be posted on the website.

NW Flower and Garden Festival Orca Recovery Garden

The Orca Recovery Garden
Northwest Flower and Garden Show

Text by Doug Gochanour
Photos by Steven H. Robinson

Visitors should check out the ORCA RECOVERY GARDEN at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival, now through March 1, 2020 at the Washington State Convention Center, 705 Pike St, Seattle.

Look for the camper with two canoes nearby.

Perhaps some of us paddled on Lake Washington near the UW campus in one of these canoes a few years back.

This display garden is presented jointly by the King Conservation District and NW BLOOM Ecological Services.

It has been designed with orca recovery in mind.

The southern resident orcas that visit Puget Sound are struggling for survival. Dwindling salmon runs, pollution, and boat noise are taking a toll on the orca population.

This display demonstrates how a few simple gardening practices can have significant impact upon wildlife way on down the watershed food chain, ultimately benefiting salmon and orcas and a whole lot more living creatures and plants along the way.

Composting bins
Low impact sustainability practices are highlighted, and most are easy to do.

They include a rain-garden to filter and manage runoff, permeable pavers, and composting bins to build healthy new soil.

There are two repurposed canoes, made into raised beds with space for your favorite veggies.

There is plenty of room for some flowers and herbs, as well.

The perimeter of this display garden is lined with wood rounds and a log, placed at a good height for sitting. These natural materials offer a nice place to rest for a bit.

The King Conservation District’s website betterground.org offers more tips for those involved in stewardship projects.

Polar Plunge - DIY cryotherapy

Thursday, January 2, 2020

Photos by Lee Lageschulte

Hundreds of people gathered on the Puget Sound shore at Brackett's Landing in Edmonds for the annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Members of the Richmond Beach - Edmonds Runners Club were among them but it might be a bit difficult to pick them out.

At the signal, everyone rushed toward the water.

Everyone got off the beach but it looks like a lot settled for calf deep. And a couple turned and ran back to shore immediately.

It was clear that it was exhilarating and that people were having fun. But they were ready to get out of the water.

Next event - January 1, 2021.

Not only was there incredible support for the artists and the Arts Council, but everyone stepped up to the plate to consume exactly 800 mini cupcakes! Now that's a team effort.

The Great Pumpkin Weigh-In was held Saturday October 5, 2019 in the parking lot at Shoreline Central Market.

No matter how you carve it, a line up of these behemoths is an impressive sight.

hmm... I think this is referred to as putting your thumb on the scale...

They're good for photo ops.

Not sure if she was part of this event or just wandering the market.

Vegetables larger than children were on display

And the pumpkins, one at a time, were weighed.

Kind+co Events Cocktails for a Cause
Wednesday, for NUHSA
By Donna Hawkey

Three Lake Forest Park entrepreneurs are hosting a party for the North Urban Human Services Alliance (NUHSA), and are highlighting the strength of our communities at the same time!

On Wednesday evening, September 25, 2019 Kind+co Events is sponsoring NUHSA’s fall fundraising event called “Cocktails for a Cause.” And you are all invited, too!

It’s going to be a vibrant party and includes specialty craft cocktails and appetizers. But also, guests will have the ability to admire and shop at pop-up artist’s various booths. This is an innovative idea from three women who want to give back to the community.

While listening to some cool tunes brought to you by LFP resident DJ Zach, and taking in the big view of Lake Washington from the Lake Forest Park Civic Club, you will also be socializing with your neighbors, friends, and elected officials.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to NUHSA. The NUHSA organization is well-positioned to advocate for the ever-increasing and critical human service needs in North King County and includes all of Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Bothell, and Woodinville.

Specialty craft cocktails and appetizers will be
available at Wednesday's event for NUHSA.
Places are still available.
Entrepreneurs Deci Evans, Nicola Dahlin and Leslie Eck started Kind+co Events after meeting as involved parents at the local elementary school their kids were attending.

They took on the job of chairing the school’s auction and succeeded in growing that auction’s results from $10,000 to over $100,000 in just five years!

If you’ve ever been involved in school auctions, you will understand what a feat this is for these three parents.

These enterprising moms realized the satisfaction they receive in helping others raise money for important causes. Through all that, they decided to start Kind+co Events. Their LFP business can do all the creation and management of a special event, or they can do just a part of it.

They are honored to be able to give back with their “Cocktails for a Cause” annual in-kind event to NUHSA for 2019.

“NUHSA as an advocacy umbrella organization brings support to currently hundreds of non-profits, and lines-up perfectly with our mission of bringing about social service awareness,” says, Ms. Evans.

And this is the second year Kind+co Events has generously awarded an organization “who give so much to their communities.” Last year’s recipient was HaART, a program out of Harborview Medical Center.

Tickets for this Wednesday’s event on September 25th from 6:30-9:30 pm each cost $50. Please consider purchasing a ticket and enjoying this party. Also, you will learn about NUHSA and its essential, growing, ever-challenging and rewarding community work!

NUHSA seeks to “establish a sustainable system of social and health services.” Consider supporting them through this journey. Cocktails for a Cause: NUHSA

Rabbits, chickens, pigs, goats, alpacas, and donkeys
at the petting zoo for the kids

Text and photos by Jerry Pickard

The annual Lake Forest Park Picnic in the Park at Pfingst Animal Acres ran from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

The weather was cloudy but comfortable in the high sixty's. Parking was limited along the streets but Brookside Elementary was a short walk away.

The little ones danced and tumbled to the music
of the Mark DuFresne Band

While the Mark DuFresne Band played, the tiny dancers were stage front spinning and jumping, tumbling and running back to Mom and Dad for approval.

There were many booths representing businesses and services.

How did we ever manage without food trucks?

There were food trucks - the Mexican truck had the longest lines.

Kids love to check out police vehicles

Lake Forest Park's finest had an SUV for the kids to examine.

Two bounce houses and still there were lines

Lines were long for the Bounce Houses.

The Arts Council had arts and crafts activities

There were Craft booths.

The bean bag toss has been popular for a century

The Bean Bag toss by the North City Water District booth was popular with the kids and gave away lots of prizes.

Speedy the turtle fascinated the kids

The Animal Petting Zoo had rabbits, chickens, pigs, goats, alpacas, and donkeys for the kids to pet. Speedy the Turtle was a favorite of the little ones.

After the visit to Animal Acres many went next door to the Eagle Scout Park for the slide and other pieces of playground equipment.

It was a fine day to be a kid and a great day to be in Lake Forest Park!
