Easter week at Church of the Redeemer: April 8 The Great Vigil of Easter

Saturday, March 18, 2023

The Easter Vigil is the first and, arguably, the primary celebration of Easter.

It is also known as the Great Vigil. This important worship starts at 9:00pm on Saturday, April 8, 2023 running 2-3 hours, at Church of the Redeemer, 6210 Northeast 181st Street, Kenmore, Washington.

The service begins in darkness. It consists of four parts:

§ The Service of Light. This starts the service with the kindling of new fire and the lighting the Paschal candle.

§ The Service of Lessons. This has readings from the Hebrew Scriptures interspersed with psalms, canticles, and prayers.

§ Christian Initiation. This is the sacrament of Holy Baptism and/or the Renewal of Baptismal Vows by all present.

§ The Eucharist. This celebrates the sacrament of Christ’s body and blood, and is the principal act of Christian worship. The word Eucharist is from the Greek word for “thanksgiving.” Christ’s body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the Eucharist and received by faith. Christ’s presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community.

This liturgy recovers an ancient practice of keeping the Easter feast. Believers gathered in the hours of darkness ending at dawn on Easter to hear scripture and offer prayer. This night-long service of prayerful watching anticipated the baptisms that would come at first light and the following Easter Eucharist.

Easter Week at Church of the Redeemer: April 9 Easter Sunday - sunrise and morning services

Easter Sunrise

Easter is the feast of Christ’s resurrection. The first service is at 7:00am on April 9, 2023 in the Memorial Garden at Church of the Redeemer, weather permitting. If the weather isn’t permitting, the service moves to our chapel. This will be a smaller, more intimate service, to encounter Our Lord in the garden.

Church of the Redeemer is at 6210 Northeast 181st Street, Kenmore, Washington.

Easter Morning

Easter is the feast of Christ’s resurrection. The regular morning service is at 10:30am on April 9 in the main church building at Church of the Redeemer, 6210 Northeast 181st Street, Kenmore, Washington.

Easter Day is the annual feast of the resurrection, the Pascha or Christian Passover. Faith in Jesus’ resurrection on the Sunday, or third day following his crucifixion, is at the heart of Christian belief.

This day starts the Easter Season, the Great 50 Days. It lasts until the Feast of Pentecost, celebrating the coming of the Holy Spirit.

For more information, visit our website, call +1 (425) 486-3777, or email office@redeemer-kenmore.org. The Episcopal Church welcomes you.

It was sponsored by Shoreline Fire, who brought their vintage fire engine for the kids to explore.

The hillside is divided into ago groups so every child has a fair chance to collect goodies. Countryside Donuts in Bothell provided assorted donuts.

And the sun was shining!

Berean Bible Church welcomes all to Easter Service on Sunday, April 17

Friday, April 15, 2022

Berean Bible Church welcomes all to Easter Service on Sunday, April 17, 2022.

The service is at 11:00am. Come early for Easter Breakfast served at 8:30am.

What is the most important announcement anyone ever told you about? The birth of a child. Engagement? Job promotion?

What about... "By this gospel you are saved...he died, he was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the scriptures. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless and you are still in your sins. But Christ has been raised from the dead...thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

What is that 'victory' to you? He is Risen. He is Risen Indeed.

Berean Bible Church is located at 2345 N 185th St in Shoreline, Washington at the corner of First Avenue NE. 206-363-1466. www.berean-shoreline.org

Good Friday Service on Friday, April 2, 2021 will be at 6:30pm.

There will be two services for Easter on April 4th. Services will be held at 9:00am and at 11:00am.

Children’s Program will be offered only for the first service at 9:00am.

All are welcome.

As the church resumes in-person services, anyone planning to come to either of the three services is asked to register to assist in planning for capacity so that everyone who wants to attend can be accommodated.

To register, please either use the church’s website at https://www.berean-shoreline.org/in-person-services/ for information and to register or call the church office at 206-363-1466.

This Easter weekend is also a historic time for Berean. Pastor Jim Shemaria and his wife Teresa will be closing out a 37-year ministry at Berean where Jim was also a charter member along with his mother in 1964. Pastor Jim was Christian Education Minister from 1984 and then Senior Pastor from 1993 to the present. He will deliver his last sermon on Easter weekend.

Two pastors will be helping during the transition while the church seeks a senior pastor to replace Pastor Jim. Pastor John Spooner will be interim pastor while Dr. Jim Carlson will assist the church leadership during the interim in its search for a new pastor. Dr. Carlson served as Christian Education Minister from 1966 through 1971.

Berean Bible Church is located at 2345 N 185th St at the corner of 1st Ave NE and N 185th St. For more information, please go to www.berean-shoreline.org or call the church office at 206-363-1466.
