Sunday, June 30, 2019, 11am - 6pm, Skandia Midsommarfest at St. Edward State Park, 14445 Juanita Drive NE, Kenmore 98028.

This day-long traditional Scandinavian celebration features music and dance performances, kids’ activities (including raising a kid-sized pole), flower crowns, craft and food booths, a special costume presentation, participatory dancing, mini-dance lessons for beginners, and of course, the traditional pole raising ceremony.

FREE (donations accepted; buttons are available for a $2 donation to help defray the cost of putting on the festival).

Sno-King International Folk Dance Club celebrates the 4th of July on Jun 29

Get the jump on Independence Day - why wait for the 4th of July? 

Sno-King International Folk Dance Club is throwing a dance party, ending with strawberries and ice cream. 


We will do dances from many lands, including partner, no-partner, and set dances. You don’t need to bring a partner.

Aside from parties, we also dance every Wednesday and Saturday, starting at 7:00pm, with a lesson at 7:30pm. Wednesday is all requests, and Saturday has a program of dances, with room for requests.

Donation: $8 non-members, $6 members. Yearly membership is only $15 ($25 for a family).

At 8:30pm, enjoy the music of the Seattle Skandia Spelmanslag, the region’s open-membership group. The Spelmanslag plays a wide variety of Scandinavian dance music -- gammaldans, mixers, polskas — something for everybody. Get those dance shoes on!

Saturday May 18, 2019, LFP Third Place Commons hosted the Spring Belly Dance Festival (sorry I didn't warn you about it - we'll try for next year).

Poet (and photographer) Cynthia Sheridan noticed this group standing out in the sun (remember sun?), waiting for their turn and taking group photos.

So she got a photo for us. (if you see news happening - take a photo and send it in.)

The Wild Orchids is a belly dance troupe in Arlington that performs all around Snohomish County. They paused for a brief photo shoot in Lake Forest Park before joining Third Place Commons'  Saturday afternoon entertainment.

Maifest dance and potluck Saturday in Kenmore with the Austria Club

The Austria Club of Washington Maifest takes place this Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 1-5pm at the Kenmore Community Hall 73rd NE and NE Bothell Way in Kenmore.

This member potluck event can be joined by members of the public to enjoy the Alpine music and dancing to the Happy Hans band and the local Enzian Schuhplattler.

SKANDIA THIRD FRIDAY DANCE at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood, 98036.

From 7:30 to 8:30pm, Patrick McMonagle will teach easy dances that are quick to learn. Bring a buddy for this accessible and friendly evening.

The dances will be mostly the common gammaldans ones— such as waltz, schottis, hambo, and snoa— and very beginner-friendly.

At 8:30pm, music for the dance will be a mix of an “All Comers Band” and recorded music.

  • Are you a musician who is looking to get into playing for dances?
  • Do you not yet have a band to play with, but you’d like to try?
  • Bring your instrument, and we’ll see what we can cook up!

Dance to raise funds for Northwest Folklife Mar 30

Northwest Folkdancers Inc. present an International Folk Dance Party to benefit Northwest Folklife on Saturday, March 30, 2019, 7 - 10:30pm at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood.

Dance to the music of two bands, Allspice (International) and Zakuska (Balkan).

Suggested donation $10, or become a Friend of Folklife at the door. All proceeds go directly to Northwest Folklife. The hall, the music, and the workers are all donated. Sno-King Folkdancers are giving up their dance night for this event.

Please bring finger-food snacks. Ethnic costumes are encouraged. This will be the biggest International folk dance at the Grange this year. Dancers from a number of clubs will participate.

You needn’t bring a partner, and there will be lots of easy dances. Requests to recorded music at 7pm; live music starts at 7:30pm.

National Champions: Shorecrest Hip Hop team

SHORECREST HIP HOP Team returned from Nationals as CHAMPIONS!

They competed at the West Coast Elite Nationals in Long Beach, California on March 15-16. The team took 1st Place in Small Co-Ed Hip Hop and 3rd in Medium Female Hip Hop!

It was a tough field of high school teams comprised mostly of teams from California but the Shorecrest team brought their unique style and came away with two trophies and a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER!

The participants include: Adam Kurniawan, Ana McDade, Ava Flum, Destiny Stevens, Elena Tapia, Ellie Sidler, Emma Libby, Hannah Sy, Julienne Asuncion, Katrina Shih, MaeLea Willis, Maria Lazarou, Mellot Samuel, Neve Lin, Yemisi Bolonduro, Reva Frare-Davis, Saphiah Montanez, Shiuan Chu, Trinity Howell and Wintana Eyob

Assistant Coaches: Kirsten Kinney, Tong Cha, Alexa Vergara with Advisor Kim Wiley

The team heads to the WIAA State Dance/Drill Competition in Yakima later this week competing in 3A Hip Hop on Friday, March 21st!

The Folk Voice band play on Friday, March 15 for a special dance, free of charge and geared toward beginners, with lots of fun activities planned!

Friday, March 15 SKANDIA THIRD FRIDAY DANCE, Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood 98036. 

Buckle up and get ready for Finnish fun as Katrilli Finnish Folk Dancers bring us the St. Urho party, with music by Folk Voice. Katrilli members will teach Finnish dances before the party, so make sure to arrive by 7:30pm. 

The evening will feature lots of mixers and dances that newcomers will be able to do. 

Get in the spirit of the evening by wearing purple and green. 

Admission for this dance will be free. Class, 7:30pm; dance, 8:30–11pm.

International Folk Dance party to benefit Northwest Folklife

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, 7 - 10:30pm the Northwest Folkdancers will hold an International Folk Dance party to benefit Northwest Folklife.

It will be held at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, in Lynnwood. The suggested donation is $10 or become a Friend of Folklife (envelopes at the door). All proceeds go directly to Northwest Folklife.

Bring finger-food potluck snacks. Ethnic costumes are encouraged!

Shorecrest Hip Hop wins 15th straight district title

Shorecrest Hip Hop District 1 Champions


For the 15th year, the Shorecrest Hip Hop dance team has won the District 1 title in 1A/2A/3A Hip Hop and is on to the WIAA State Championships.

The team is led by coach Rex Kinney, who started as a dancer in the team. To fund the troupe, Rex produces an annual dance performance, Physical Poetry, which showcases local ethnic dance troupes. The shows regularly sell out.

The state competition is March 22, 2019 at the Yakima SunDome.

Folk Voice Band will play for Sweetheart Dance Feb 23


The Sweetheart Dance at Sno-King International Folk Dance Club on February 23, 2019 will honor couples who met at folk dancing - but everyone is welcome!

7:00 pm to 9:30pm at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood. Dance to live music from Folk Voice Band, with recorded requests at 7:00pm and during the band break.

We invite you to do dances from around the world -- we do couple, no-partner, and set dances, and you don't need to bring a partner. We expect dancers from several clubs.

The Grange has the best (wooden!) dance floor around, and lots of free parking.

Wear an ethnic costume if you have one, or dress like a valentine in reds and pinks. Finger food potluck snacks are encouraged.

The donation for the party is $8.00.

The club also meets every Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm, which is all-request night, and Saturday from 7:00-9:30pm, which has a program of dances, plus requests.

Donation for regular dances is $8.00, members $6.00. (annual membership $15.00, or $25.00 for a family.)

Big Band Dance at the Shorewood Commons Feb 9

The Shorewood Jazz Band will be hosting their student-led Big Band Dance at the Shorewood Commons from 7pm - 11pm. 17300 Fremont Ave N, 98133

The event is fun for people of all ages and features the SWHS and Einstein middle school jazz bands as well as dance lessons by Mark Kihara. Lessons are a group event, with the whole crowd participating. They begin at 7pm.

There will also be a raffle and snacks.

Semi-formal clothing is recommended and as it is a Jazz event, 1940s attire is also welcome.

Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and all of the proceeds go to help the SW Jazz program. Tickets can be bought from the SW business office during school hours, online from brownpapertickets.com, or at the door.

SVER – Epic Nordic Folk! January 19, 2019 7:30 – 10pm

SVER, the Epic Nordic Folk band, is back for a new album release concert and music workshops, co-sponsored by Seattle Folklore Society and Skandia Folkdance Society. Get your tickets early! Their concert was super popular the last time they were in town.

SVER has its own take on traditional Norwegian folk music. They play original compositions as well as traditional tunes with fantastic, fresh arrangements, all rooted in the folk tradition. SVER’s energy and magnetic spirit will draw you in to experience the joy of their music.

SVER consists of Olav Luksengård Mjelva from Røros in the Sør-Trøndelag region of Norway (fiddle and hardanger fiddle), Anders Hall from Sweden (fiddle and viola), Leif Ingvar Ranøien (diatonic accordion), Adam Johansson (guitar) and Jens Linell from Sweden (Drums and percussion).
