American Dance Institute expanding to Shoreline and opening Jan 2

Monday, November 13, 2017

American Dance Institute (ADI), which has offered dance classes to adults, teenagers, and children in Seattle for more than 28 years, is expanding to Shoreline.

The new Shoreline studio, at 1240 NE 175th St, is in the North City neighborhood, just a half block from Walgreen’s Drug and Safeway. ADI schools include several family-friendly features such as bright, spacious, and sunlit studios, an inviting parent observation area, a fun and non-competitive, non-intimidating environment.

“We cater to all levels - dancers who are new beginners, dancers returning after an absence from dance, and active intermediate level dancers. American Dance Institute’s balancing of technical training with each student’s creativity is unique among area dance schools, and flows from our extensive teacher screening, training, and mentoring,” said the owner and founder Elizabeth Chayer.
“Dance should first and foremost be joyful, and it’s equally important to us to have a friendly class culture in addition to great technical training.”

The Shoreline location is being remodeled to add a sprung dance floor, a state of the art sound system, a fresh new color scheme, and a spacious observation room with free Wi-Fi.

The observation room offers parents a space to stay and watch their child while visiting with other parents and is available during certain classes.

“We are so excited for ADI to be part of the wonderful Shoreline and Lake Forest communities, and have structured the studio to be very accommodating for busy families,” explained Chayer.
“And we work very hard to make sure all of our students enjoy their time here. This is a welcoming and non-competitive environment for dancers of all ages and skill levels.”

ADI’s commitment to top quality dance instruction as well as creating an invigorating and supportive atmosphere is also seen in its family-friendly policies, such as accommodation for overlapping school sports schedules, easy tuition payment plans, chemical-free studios, and a money back guarantee if a student is not satisfied with the class. Risk-free trial classes allow students to explore Ballet, Hip Hop, Modern/Contemporary, Jazz and Tap dancing. There are also free 4-week “Mommy/Daddy and Me” toddler classes.

“We plan to open a new music school as well, said Chayer. We will be making that official announcement very soon.”

American Dance Institute has two locations in Seattle, one in Greenwood and one in Magnolia.

Five things to know about Shoreline’s new Academy of Music and Dance

Sunday, October 29, 2017

Shoreline Academy of Music and Dance will open this fall

The Shoreline Academy of Music and Dance is slated to open its doors this fall, and here are five things they would like you to know.

1-    They are renovating the old Guitarville building on Highway 99, north of Costco, and they share a space with another family friendly Shoreline business, MakerLab Northwest! More fun for the whole family. If you haven’t seen that building in a while, you should drive by. It's looking great! 23931 Highway 99, 98026.

2-    They are installing professional “floating” Marley dance floors that rest on hundred of foam blocks, and are the same type of floors found in professional ballet theaters around the world. These floors reduce fatigue and injury.

3-    The academy owners are Ridgecrest residents (along with their 3 children and 2 dogs)! They also own the Ballard Academy of Music and Dance, which has served thousands of students since it opened in 2010. In fact, there are quite a few Shoreline families currently driving to the Ballard Academy to take dance and music lessons. A note to those families… your commute is about to get a lot shorter!

4-    There will always be a front desk person to assist you. Whether it's finding that perfect lesson time, or tracking down the right kind of ballet slippers, or helping you figure out what size guitar to get for your 8 year old, they will have you covered.

5-    The newly remodeled space will have multiple dance and music rooms so you can enroll two or more family members in classes at the same time, thus saving you lots of driving time! And btw... all academy instructors are university trained, background checked, and able to teach students of all ages! That's right... dad can take those guitar lessons he has been dreaming about while his little princess takes her ballet class.

They are currently in the permitting process and will be opening this fall. More information on the Shoreline Academy of Music and Dance here.

Skandia Third Friday dance

Sunday, August 13, 2017

Costumes optional
Skandia Third Friday Dance, August 18, Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave W, Lynnwood 98036.

It’s time for that tasty treat again, the Jam with Lamb.

And you won’t have to bring toast, either, because you can enjoy the full flavor of a Scandinavian evening by just showing up with your dance shoes and dancing to the music of this fine harvest of friends.

In the dance class at 7:30pm, three dances will be taught. We will show you how, with a basic polska turn and walking steps, you can have three different fun dances if you change your svikt (the springiness of your step), and your walking pattern.

(OK, OK, the hold should change, as well.) The Bondpolska från Hedesunda, and the Polska från Järvsö will be taught by Lisa Brooks and Nancy Neuerburg.

Also, the Bingsjö Polska, which was taught at the First Friday Dance in July, will be reviewed and compared to the other two dances.

Class, 7:30pm; dance, 8:30–11pm. $15 (Skandia members, $10); kids, free.

Information here, email or telephone 425-954-5262.
