N 175th Street - City Hall and construction area

There are a lot of changes going on at Shoreline City Hall with the construction of the new police station - but you won't be able to see them from the street.

From the parking garage it's possible to see what appears to be a glassed in entrance between the new station and the city hall building.

Inside City Hall, the south end of the first floor has been gutted and is being reconfigured. The reception area inside the lobby is completely masked off and the City Clerk is now in the center of the first floor, between the two construction sites. When you go to pay your Ronald Wastewater bill, you'll go in a center doorway from the Courtyard, which used to be a staff only entrance.

The site is full of construction equipment. I even saw a couple of guys in hard hats, walking through the fenced off site after 9pm.

Stay tuned...

Groundbreaking held for Shoreline Early Learning Center

Enthusiastic groundbreakers at site of new Early Learning Center

By Diane Hettrick

It was more like digging a moat than breaking ground, but the elated attendees didn't mind. The event was billed "rain or shine" and it is the Northwest, after all.

The little ones were given shovels and hard hats and had a wonderful time.

With the construction of the Shoreline Early Learning Center, all three preschool programs will be in one building for the first time.

  • Tuition-based preschool
  • Head Start
  • Early Childhood Education

Over the years, they have been housed in different school buildings.

The building which was torn down for this construction was the original Meridian School, which opened in 1957, and was the oldest building in the school district.

For the 2017-2018 school year, the Children’s Center program moved temporarily from the site at 1900 N 170th St to the former North City Elementary at 816 NE 190th St.

Construction will begin soon for the new facility, which is scheduled to open at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.

The project was funded with the 2017 bond election. Other projects in that funding are:
  • Rebuilding Einstein Middle School
  • Rebuilding Kellogg Middle School
  • Rebuilding Parkwood Elementary School

10th Avenue NW Bridge closed for repairs until September

Sunday, April 24, 2016

10th Ave Bridge detour map
Courtesy City of Shoreline

The City of Shoreline has announced that beginning May 2, the 10th Avenue NW Bridge (just east of NW Innis Arden Way) will be closed for repairs. The City expects the work to take several months to complete and the bridge to remain closed until mid-August.

Detour details
Courtesy City of Shoreline
Please follow all detour and construction signs while the bridge is being repaired.

The bridge was originally constructed in 1931 and is a two lane, 310 foot long concrete bridge built into the side of a hill along a ravine. It was retrofitted in 1996 to address several deficiencies; however, repairs are needed again in order to extend the life of the bridge.

Concrete on the bridge is cracking and breaking apart, exposing reinforcing steel. The bridge railing is in poor condition and presents a hazard for vehicles due to the steep slopes. There are signs of soil sloughing around the foundation of the bridge. One footing has been exposed. Due to these conditions, repair work became necessary.

For questions, contact Capital Projects Manager Eduardo Aban 206-801-2474.
