Longest Night Service at Edmonds United Methodist Church

Friday, December 15, 2023

Although the Christmas season can be filled with joy and happiness, there are those who find themselves struggling this time of year.

Often people are dealing with grief, illness, depression, loneliness, or a major life change.

Others are seeking a more contemplative season, away from the commercialism all around us.

Each year, Edmonds United Methodist Church at 828 Caspers Street welcomes congregants, friends, and guests from the community to our Longest Night Service.

During the service, one can reflect and listen to beautiful, healing music. You may also choose to pray with our pastoral staff, light a candle, and find comfort in being anointed.

Stephen Ministers, who are trained caregivers, will be available to listen and support you during this tender time.

We hope you will join us Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 6pm in our main sanctuary. We also encourage those who may not be grieving to come and support others who are hurting. All are welcome to experience the comfort and peace this service can give.

The campus is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. And we managed to hide a large building on the side of a hill that is not easily seen from the street.

Wednesday, November 15, 2023

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 6:45 to 8:00pm, the St. Dunstan’s Prayer Lab will offer an experience of fire as a pathway to the sacred.

Throughout history fire has evoked a sense of mystery and wonder. St. Francis of Assisi spoke of the element of fire as an expression of the sacred.

With candles, a fireplace, warm cocoa, and prayers, we will engage all our senses as we encounter the sacred through mystery and wonder of fire.

Oktoberfest dinner and dessert auction October 13, 2023 to benefit St. Dunstan's community feeding program

Monday, October 2, 2023

St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Shoreline has been feeding people every Tuesday at a community dinner and sending hot meals to four sanctioned tent encampments for over 10 years.

They are a part of the network of feeding programs across the county.

The feeding ministry prepares about 400 meals a week and has prepared over 130,000 since 2012 when they began by taking food to Tent City 3. The indoors community began in late 2014.

On October 13, 2023, at the church, 722 N 145th, Shoreline WA 98133, they are holding an Oktoberfest dinner and dessert auction to benefit the Feeding Program.
Josef Hinkofer, founding cook, has designed a Bavarian menu with garlic caraway pork roast and more.

The party starts at 6:00pm, with time to socialize with drinks and appetizers and to bid on silent auction items: home-baked desserts and other food-themed items. Dinner will be served at 7:00pm.

Dessert is a live auction of several large cakes: chocolate, coconut, and other flavors. Be prepared to collude with others to bid and win the cake of your heart’s desire.

Come learn about the program and see their new documentary video of the feeding program; bring your family, friends, and neighbors.

Suggested dinner donation is $40. Reservations required, click here to sign up by October 8, or on their website, sdchp.org

Saint Dunstan's: What is Positive Masculinity?

Friday, September 29, 2023

This coming Sunday Saint Dunstan’s invites you to join us in a conversation about What is Positive Masculinity?

In the age of Barbie what does Kenough mean? (ok kidding) But seriously we talk about Toxic Masculinity, what is Positive Masculinity?

Whether you've seen the Barbie movie or haven't, a lot of people are talking about it, or buying shirts about it. It's everywhere, and with the rise of Kenough, the question is left...what does that mean?

How do we define positive masculinity? Saint Dunstan's is inviting you to come and join this conversation using the 3 Practice Circle method. Click here for a video explaining.

We'll be exploring what people think and be exceedingly curious to know more as we all wade through questions, we don't have the answer to, but will learn more about ourselves and our fellow travelers in this community.

At all Saint Dunstan's events ALL are Welcome, and no one is expecting anything from you if you bless us with your presence for however long you do.

Sunday seminar at Saint Dunstan's: "Where is God when I'm suffering?"

Friday, September 1, 2023

Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church where All are Welcome, All are Fed and All are Loved invites you to join us for our September Sunday Seminar this coming Sunday September 3rd at 11:45am.

This month’s topic is discussing the big question of “Where is God when I’m Suffering?”

Anne Lamott famously said that we have three prayers, “Help, Thanks, and Wow.” What about those times when we are struggling, so overwhelmed by fear, or anxiety, or grief, that we can’t even say one of these simple prayers? Where is God at those times?

At the September Sunday Seminar, we will explore this difficult but important topic, with opportunities to share stories and both listen and be heard. Without easy answers, without trite platitudes or meaningless assurance (He’s in a better place, or God won’t give you more than you can handle) we will explore the ways God is present, with us, among us, for us, and through us for others, even when we are suffering.

This seminar will be facilitated by the Rev. David Marshall, priest and pastor to St. Dunstan’s Church. In his decades of ministry, he has sat with people facing grave illness, deep disappointment, and profound loss. Sometimes the best thing to say to someone at the hardest times is nothing.

From that place of listening with respect, and even reverence, David explores the various answers to our question, "Where is God when I’m suffering?"

You can RSVP and contact us for more information, on Facebook or Eventbrite.

Saint Dunstan's is located at 722 N 145th St, Shoreline WA 98133
