Walk the Labyrinth under the evergreens at Saint Dunstan's prayer lab Wednesday evening

Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Come join us this Wednesday August 16th at 6:45pm at Saint Dunstan’s.

For well over a thousand years Christians have been practicing the prayer form of the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth is one small way of reminding us that our spiritual lives are a journey. The Labyrinth also reminds us that the journey is often not a straight path.

This month’s Prayer Lab is going to be an experience of the labyrinth using our beautiful labyrinth under the natural beauty of our gorgeous evergreen trees.

Come and join us as we deepen our knowledge and practice this ancient prayer form.

Celebration of Life Saturday for Mary E. Pacher

Thursday, July 13, 2023

This coming Saturday July 15, 2023 at 2pm Saint Dunstan’s is celebrating the life of Mary E. Pacher.

Mary was a beloved long-time parishioner at St. Dunstan’s who tirelessly contributed to our church community as well as the Shoreline community at large in so many ways - Senior Warden, Vestry member, director of children’s and youth group education, and member of the choir, just to name a few.

Her legacy as a Sunday School Teacher and program leader will be remembered for a very long time. We know that many children and families look back fondly on their time with her.

It is our hope to give them the opportunity to remember her and these memories. We invite anyone from the community who Mary touched to come and celebrate this amazing woman with us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Charles (Chuck) and her family.

Saint Dunstan's is located at 722 N 145th St, Shoreline WA  98133

After a rainy start, Ridgecrest parking lot yard sales have a wonderful day

Sunday, June 11, 2023

Canopies, plastic, and umbrellas were the order of the early morning

The Annual Tabernacle Baptist Church Parking Lot Sale in the Ridgecrest Neighborhood on Saturday, June 10, 2023 had a very drizzly start to their day. Some people had canopies and others were using large sheets of plastic to keep their ware dray.

Patty Hale was there with the Ridgecrest Neighborhood information booth.

She reports that "It drizzled and misted until almost noon. And while it was wet and folks tried keeping their wares dry by every means possible - it was a success.

"Shoppers were few the first hour or so, but as the morning wore on the turn out improved. By noon there were lots of them!

The skies cleared, the plastic came off, and the shoppers came to buy.

"Everyone I saw made a least one purchase. Some bought enough that they had to bring in a vehicle to pick up their merchandise. Sellers seemed happy - I was pleased to see how well they did by the end of the day.

A little sun and happy shoppers

"The Pastor of the Church, Tom Ruhlman, allowed them to stay for as long as they wanted to. The last were packed up by 3:30pm.

"Church volunteers barbecued and gave away hot dogs throughout the entire day."

What the Bible REALLY Says: Removing the Sting of LGBTQ “Clobber Verses” - Pride Sunday seminar June 4, 2023

Thursday, June 1, 2023

What the Bible REALLY Says: Removing the Sting of LGBTQ “Clobber Verses”Saint Dunstan's Sunday Seminar June 4, 2023 at 11:45am

At Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Shoreline Washington, our vision statement is “On Earth as it is in Heaven where All are Welcome, All are Fed, and All are Loved.”

In 2023 we see that our LGBTQ+ siblings are still being attacked in the name of our religion. We pray for those responsible for these attacks, that they may come to see the error of their ways and the pain that they are causing in that misguided crusade.

However, we also firmly stand with our LGBTQ+ siblings, and because the other message is loud we also must take time to loudly proclaim what we believe to be the Gospel. That God created and loves EVERYONE, when we say All are Welcome, Fed, and Loved we mean ALL.

This event will be lead by Victoria EH Johnson and Ves Pacher. Both are young queer leaders at Saint Dunstan’s that are going to be leading a discussion about the passages of the Bible that are used to tell LGBTQ+ people that they need to change who God made them to be.

We’ll be sharing a lot of the context arguments, translation issues and scholarship around these passages to show that you can love the Bible and LGBTQ+ people.

RSVP on Facebook or on Eventbrite. Saint Dunstan's is located at 722 N 145th St, Shoreline, WA 98133

Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, The Church that Feeds People, to dedicate new cross Sunday

Friday, May 26, 2023

As the pandemic shut down our world in 2020, St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church suffered the theft of the beautiful brass Celtic cross off the roof by metal thieves. Click here for King 5 article

On Sunday, May 28, 2023 we will dedicate a stunning new cross.

The original cross was stolen from the
roof of the building by metal thieves
The original Celtic cross was generously donated by the Keefer family in memory of their children.

Thanks to insurance, as well as generous donations from the community, we have been able to work with the original artist, Canadian sculptor Dr. Lycia Trouton, to have the cross remade.

She also was able to make some “version 2.0” improvements. The new Celtic cross is so gorgeous that we decided to keep it in our worship space rather than mounting it outside on the roof.

The new cross will be inside
in the worship space
We will dedicate the replacement Cross this coming Pentecost Sunday, May 28th with prayers at the 10:00am service and a reception with the artist at 11:30am, following the service.

There will be some brief words from the artist, the family that donated the original cross and our Rector, the Rev. David Marshall.

Come and celebrate the dedication of our beautiful Celtic cross with us.
We continue to be excited to start new chapters and expand our community!
Our service starts at 10:00am, the food for the reception will begin at 11:30, with remarks beginning at 11:45 am.

Saint Dunstan’s is located at 722 N 145th St Shoreline, WA 98133 and is just a few blocks East from the Aurora and 145th E-Line Stops.

More information and RSVP on either Facebook or Eventbrite.

Vandalism at Calvin Presbyterian destroys food pantry, damages church van and shed

Calvin's food pantry destroyed by vandalism but now being rebuilt.

On Saturday evening, May 20, 2023 Calvin's Little Blue Pantry was significantly damaged so that it needs to be rebuilt. There was also damage done to the church van and shed.

The church reports that
"From the CCTV footage, it seems that the individual who committed the crimes was very angry with himself and the world in general. From what we understand, damage was also done to other property in the surrounding area, so the attack doesn't seem to have targeted the church in particular."

The Little Blue Pantry is being rebuilt will be up and running again very soon.

We're very grateful for the many messages of support that we've received from our community, and we're praying that the person who committed the crime will be held accountable, receive the help they need, and come to know God's love for them.

Calvin Presbyterian is located at 18826 3rd Ave NW, Shoreline, WA 98177 in the Hillwood Neighborhood.

Paper and pens provided, but if you have a Bible please bring your own. We have extras for those who do not have one, but the more copies the better.

Saint Dunstan's is located at 722 N 145th St, Shoreline, WA 98133

Traditional Easter Service at Berean Bible Church of Shoreline is open to all

Friday, April 7, 2023

On Sunday, April 9, 2023 Berean Bible Church will offer Easter service for the 59th year. The service is open to anyone, especially from the Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, and surrounding communities. Pastor Nathan Killion will present the Easter sermon based on the book of Luke titled "Walking With Jesus."

"When we first meet two of Jesus' followers on the road to Emmaus, they're sad, hopeless, and unbelieving. By the end of the story, everything has changed! As we gather together to celebrate that Jesus is alive, I pray that you will be encouraged as we look at how our Savior graciously enters into our lives, walks with us, and invites us to be on a mission with Him. He is risen!"

The Easter service will begin at 11:00am. Children's Church is available.

"Every Sunday when our church gathers is a chance to celebrate the redeeming work of God, but Easter is always extra special," stated Associate Pastor Gary Hansen. "During our 11:00 a.m. service, we'll have great activities for your children and an encouraging message of hope and joy for all. We are excited to have you join us."

Nathan and his wife, Jessica, are former missionaries to Thailand. Now, they serve with The Navigators, a disciple-making ministry that shares the gospel of Jesus and helps people grow in their relationship with Him. They are members of Berean, where Jessica works part-time as a Ministry Assistant, and Nathan volunteers with the College and Career ministry."

Berean will also hold the Good Friday service with an added feature. Laura Barron of the international organization, Jews for Jesus, will provide a unique presentation on "The Exploration of the Passover, the Last Supper and your Communion Experience." Good Friday service is at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday morning, the Men's Fellowship will feature Jeff Adams, a retired career firefighter of 26 years, who, with his wife, Connie, climbed mountains in Europe and the Swiss Alps when Jeff wasn't holding down firefighter duties. Jeff will share stories of his life journey as a firefighter, husband, and father, along with stories of their mountain climbing and his faith. The men gather at 8:00am and adjourn by 9:15am. Youth are also invited. For information about the Men's Fellowship, call 206-351-5888.

Easter services at Berean Bible Church begin with a special Good Friday program

Wednesday, April 5, 2023

Good Friday services at Berean Bible Church of Shoreline will offer a special opportunity to experience God’s ancient story of redemption through this Christ in the Passover event.

The church will host Laura Barron of Jews for Jesus, who will provide a unique presentation on “The exploration of the Passover, the Last Supper, and your Communion Experience.”

"We look forward to a great evening together as we reflect on the final Passover meal Jesus ate with his disciples and remember God's incredible love for each one of us,” stated Associate Pastor Gary Hansen. “We would love to have those from the community join us for this special service.”

The Good Friday service will be on April 7 at 7:00 p.m. All from the community are welcome, regardless of whether Christian, Jewish, or simply curious. Childcare will be provided for children 4 and under.

Laura Barron of Jews for Jesus will be coming from her home in Toronto, Canada, where she has lived with her family since they were deployed there from South Africa in 1996. She and her husband were the first permanent overseas missionaries of Jews for Jesus when they served in Johannesburg in 1989.

In addition to serving on the staff as a vocational worker, she is the leader of the Haredi Women’s ministry team.

This will be her first time presenting this program in our area.

“This is my first visit to the Shoreline and Seattle area, where I’ve been able to drive around this beautiful state. During this extended speaking tour, I’ve been able to hike in Yakima and drive over two breathtaking mountain passes,” stated Laura. “My sister lives in south King County,” she continued, “and this is the first time I’ve visited her new home. I’m awestruck by the pristine and peaceful views in Washington!”

“I’m excited about the opportunity to share this “Christ in the Passover” presentation with the Shoreline and area communities, she continued. It’s a privilege to connect with the people here and trace God’s plan of redemption throughout the Scriptures together. What a blessing to meet people here and enjoy their warm hospitality!”
