Clean up crew from Shoreline Covenant Church
By Kathy Plant

These days in Shoreline it is not uncommon to see work crews in protective construction clothing on our streets but there was something unusual about the crew working along N 185th Street on Saturday morning, July 30, 2022.

Armed with safety gear and supplies from the City of Shoreline 22 members of Shoreline Covenant Church worked diligently on a very warm summer morning picking up litter in the Echo Lake Neighborhood.

The litter was gathered, bagged, and later picked up by Shoreline’s Customer Response Team.

Litter Pick Up Kits are available to community groups by contacting crteam@shorelinewa.gov Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm at 206-801-2700.

The Safety Kit is designed to provide a group of Adopt-A-Road volunteers with the necessary materials to have a successful and safe cleanup event.

Thank you to Shoreline Covenant Church for your efforts in helping to make our city a clean and healthy environment for all.

Susanna Valleau, organist
Susanna Valleau began studying piano at age seven and could hardly walk past the piano without sitting down to play. Ten years later, however, the organ stole her affections when she heard Widor’s Toccata for the first time, and she went on to earn degrees in organ performance from Lawrence University (Bachelor of Music) and the University of Washington (Master of Music).

She has earned top prizes in multiple nationwide organ competitions. Susanna serves as music director of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Shoreline, WA and is on faculty with the Seattle Girls’ Choir as accompanist to two of their groups.

She also gives solo recitals across the country, maintains an active piano studio, and collaborates regularly as an accompanist and in chamber music settings on piano, harpsichord, and organ.

Here's a sample of recitalist Susanna Valleau playing Bach - but you'll have to come to the concert for the full experience!

What about... "By this gospel you are saved...he died, he was buried, and was raised on the third day according to the scriptures. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless and you are still in your sins. But Christ has been raised from the dead...thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Burning of the Palms at St. Dunstan's

Thursday, February 24, 2022

There will be fire. There will be prayers. There will be a bucket of water too, just in case.

Each year we do a little ritual, usually privately, where we burn the palm fronds and palm crosses from the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebration to use the ashes in our Ash Wednesday rituals.

This year we will offer a brief, public event where we will burn the palm fronds. This ritual will occur on the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday, which is February 27, 2022 at 11:30am.

We will gather in the outdoor chapel on our property. You can park in either the upper or lower lot and there is a paved walkway to get to the chapel.

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a season of preparation through self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, and study, with the imposition of a cross on our foreheads in ash. These ashes, and this sign, remind us of our humanity and our need for God, and of God’s forgiving love.

St. Dunstan's is located at 722 N 145th St, Shoreline WA 98133
