The Frances Walton Competition and Tour

For more than thirty years, the Ladies Musical Club’s Frances Walton Competition has provided a unique opportunity for classical musicians ages 20 to 35 to audition for an award package including the following:Generous cash prizes.A live performance on Classical KING-FM 98.1, one of the premier classical music stations in the U.S.An outreach and recital tour of locations throughout Washington State.

Applications open in November and close in March. The contest attracts talented musicians from across the United States, who compete in 7 solo categories:BrassMarimbaPianoRecorderStringVoiceWoodwind

Or they can compete in a chamber ensemble category of 2-5 musicians.

Finalists are selected in blind adjudication rounds to compete in Seattle’s Frances Walton Competition weekend. These early round adjudicator panels are specialists drawn from LMC’s membership and occasional outside professionals. The competition is held the first weekend in June in a whirlwind of musical events that are all free and open to the public.

Solo and chamber ensemble finalists compete in Seattle all day on Saturday, and winners are announced in a short ceremony that evening.

Sunday, the winners perform a free public Winners’ Concert followed by a reception, then regroup in Seattle in September to embark on outreach tours across Washington State.

Church of the Redeemer

We are an Episcopal Church serving north King County and south Snohomish County, Washington.

Church of the Redeemer is at 6210 NE 181st St in Kenmore, WA. The campus is a short distance north of Bothell Way, near the Burke-Gilman Trail. The entrance looks like a gravel driveway. The campus is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. And we managed to hide a large building on the side of a hill that is not easily seen from the street.

The Episcopal Church welcomes you.

Vocal recital of Schubert's Schwanengesang August 25, 2024 at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church

Tuesday, August 13, 2024

"Schwanengesang" by Franz Schubert
Will Schlott, Baritone with Christopher Powell, piano

Sunday, August 25 at 4pm

Join us Sunday August 25, 2024 at 4pm for a recital presentation of Schubert's "Schwanengesang," performed by baritone Will Schlott and collaborative pianist Christopher Powell.

Will Schlott has been singing as a section leader in the St. Dunstan's choir for a little over a year, and he is currently preparing to audition for graduate studies in voice at some of the country's top programs.

Donations will go towards application fees and audition-related travel expenses.

Schwanengesang ("Swan Song") is a posthumously published collection of the last songs composed by Franz Schubert before his death in 1828.

Unlike a typical song-cycle which features text by one single poet throughout, Schwanengesang features text from three different poets.

The first seven song texts are from Rellstab, the following six from Heine, and the last one being Seidl's sole contribution.

Schubert's awareness of his declining health and approaching death during the time of writing has left these last songs steeped in palpable feelings of nostalgia, longing, and angst.

New Blood Drive in Shoreline, Saturday, June 8, 2024

Saturday, June 1, 2024

Bloodworks Northwest will have a mobile drive set up inside Shoreline Covenant Church on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 9am to 3pm.

Summertime is always crucial for blood collection: donations drop, as people go on vacations, while needs rise, as vacationers schedule elective surgeries or have accidents amid the fun times.

Appointments can be made here or by calling 800-398-7888. They are especially looking to fill afternoon time slots.

Donating blood takes about an hour, door to door. First-time donors are welcome; experienced donors can share the news and encourage friends and family to join them in donating.

At this inaugural blood drive, every donor will receive a coupon redeemable at the Richmond Beach Strawberry Festival the same day for the value of a strawberry shortcake! It's a great way to start the season.

AG announces investigation into Catholic Church’s handling of child sex abuse allegations

Friday, May 10, 2024

Attorney General Bob Ferguson with staff and survivors of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy

The State Attorney General is taking legal action against the Seattle Archdiocese, as part of the investigation into whether the three Washington dioceses of the Catholic Church used charitable funds to cover up allegations of child sex abuse by clergy.

The Attorney General’s Office sent subpoenas to the Seattle Archdiocese, the Diocese of Spokane and the Diocese of Yakima.

The Seattle Archdiocese refused to cooperate. Consequently, Ferguson filed a petition to enforce the subpoena in King County Superior Court. The office is asking the court to hear the petition on May 22.

The Attorney General’s Office has a longstanding policy that it does not comment on investigations, including confirming whether they exist. Because the Seattle Archdiocese refused to comply with the office’s subpoena, the office now must seek a court order to move the investigation forward. This process made the investigation public.

“Washingtonians deserve a public accounting of how the Catholic Church handles allegations of child sex abuse, and whether charitable dollars were used to cover it up,” Ferguson said.
“As a Catholic, I am disappointed the Church refuses to cooperate with our investigation. Our goal is to use every tool we have to reveal the truth, and give a voice to survivors. If you or a loved one have been impacted by clergy abuse, please contact my office.”
