Santa Bones

Monday, January 8, 2024

This guy showed up in October, peering over a fence on the corner of 55th and 198th in Lake Forest Park (on the way to Kenmore).

Instead of leaving after Halloween, he stayed around for Thanksgiving, transformed into Santa Bones for Christmas, and added the gold tinsel for New Year's.

He's a grumpy Santa because his bag says "Santa's Coal" with "naughty" checkmarked.

He looks pretty good as you are driving by, but he's pretty grisly in a close up.

Shop with a cop: LFP police help ten local families have a happy Christmas

The Lake Forest Park Police Department 2023 Shop With a Cop event took place last week at City Hall.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lake Forest Park, and generous donations from individual citizens, this event brought holiday cheer to ten local students from three elementary schools.

Volunteers wrapped all the gifts

These Shop With a Cop recipients wrote a list of desired gifts, clothes, and toys for them and for their siblings. Lieutenant Rhonda Lehman selected and bought the gifts, and LFP Rotary volunteers and some of the LFP officers wrapped the toys and the clothes.

On December 20th and 21st, 2023 the kids came to the LFP city hall with their families, enjoyed some delicious snacks and drinks, took pictures with the officers, and received the gifts.

Shop With a Cop is all about strengthening the relationship with the community, celebrating the holidays with our citizens, and assisting some families that may need some help.

By participating in the program, children gain a positive experience with police officers and give them a different perspective on the role of police in our community.

Officers who volunteered for the event had a great time

A big “Thank You” goes to all the volunteers and the police officers who participated, and businesses like LFP Starbucks and LFP Albertsons, who made this event possible.

We can’t wait for the next year!!!

Statement from Shoreline Fire Chief Matt Cowan

Wednesday, December 27, 2023

Christmas morning 2023

My name is Matt Cowan and I am the Fire Chief for the Shoreline Fire Department.

The "Santa Engine" has been going on for many decades now and brings a great amount of holiday cheer to families in our area. You cannot imagine how many happy, smiling faces we see from the kids and adults as they flock out to greet us as we come by.

There are hundreds of families that look forward to it every year.

However, I am very sorry that there were some that were negatively impacted by this event, which is obviously not our intention. We use the horns and sirens to let people know we are coming, so they don't miss us.

And we also try to maximize the time, so that we can see as many families as possible.

Next year we will do a better job of getting the word out and we will re-evaluate how we use the horns and sirens to see if there is a better way to do it.

The apparatus are staffed by volunteers that give up their mornings to spread holiday cheer, and again, I am sorry that it had the opposite effect on some of our residents.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!

Matt

4th Sunday of Advent, 10:00am

There will be only one service the morning of December 24, marking the 4th Sunday of Advent. It is at 10:00am and comes with music. Advent isn’t over ’till it’s over!

Following the 10:00am service, there will be a Greening of the Church, Part 2. We will change everything from Advent to Christmas for services beginning this evening.

Family Christmas Eve service, 5:00pm

This service is designed for families with children. It will last about 1 to 1.5 hours. There will be music.

We are planning a drop-in pageant for any child wanting to participate. We might even need a few adults.

Festive Christmas Eve service, 9:00pm

This is a traditional service for Christmas evening, and a bit more formal. Incense will be used. It will last about 1.5 hours. There will be music.

Monday, December 25, 2023
Christmas Day service, 10:00am

While this will be a simpler service, there will still be music. Enjoy Christmas, even if you cannot get out Christmas Eve. It will last about 1 to 1.5 hours.

There will not be a midweek Eucharist service on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Sunday, December 31, 2023
The First Sunday after Christmas

Church of the Redeemer

Welcome to Church of the Redeemer: Worshiping God, living in community, and reaching out to the world. We are an Episcopal Church serving north King County and south Snohomish County, Washington. As you travel your road, go with friends walking the way of Jesus at Redeemer.

Church of the Redeemer is at 6210 NE 181st St in Kenmore WA. We are a short distance north of Bothell Way, near the Burke-Gilman Trail. The entrance looks like a gravel driveway. The campus is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. And we managed to hide a large building on the side of a hill that is not easily seen from the street.

The Episcopal Church welcomes you.

Shakespeare's Lost Christmas Play - December 8-9, 2023 by RBCC Players

Monday, October 30, 2023

The RBCC Players are currently in rehearsal for their Annual Holiday Production, Shakespeare’s Lost Christmas.

This fun, upbeat, holiday production was created in 2020 and pokes fun at a local troupe of actors during the 1600s in the tiny English village of Little Moldingham-on-Cheese.

This band of actors lost all their costumes, props, and scripts the previous year when the theatre accidentally burned down. With nothing to perform, the director writes to William Shakespeare to see if he will write them a Christmas play.

As the letter from Shakespeare is received, the Plague Doctor and Royal Hearld arrive to announce that because of an impending plague all people must stand 6’ apart and all ‘entertainments’ are cancelled. The stage manager’s quick thinking finds a loophole that will have the audience laughing from start to finish.

Shakespeare’s Lost Christmas Play by Dwayne Yancy and produced by special arrangement with Big Dog / Norman Maine Publishing LLC, Rapid City, SD. will be presented by the RBCC Players in December.

The RBCC Players have been performing at the Richmond Beach Congregational Church in the Bill McLaughlin Theater since 1984.

Please save the date and plan to join us for this amusing Holiday Production on Friday December 8, 2023 at 7:30pm and Saturday December 9 at 2pm.

Tickets will go on sale on November 1 and will be $20.00 and $15.00 for Students and Seniors.

For questions, please email rbccplayers@gmail.com

The Bill McLaughlin Theater is located at:
Richmond Beach Congregational Church UCC

Shop with a Cop brings joy to all

Cops and kids at Target. Photo from LFPPD

Story from Lake Forest Park Police

The 2022 Holiday with Heroes, “Shop with a Cop” event is in the books!
The event started at the LFP station where officers (and Chief Harden (right) were paired with a student. They made shopping lists for the family members and what they wanted to buy, before heading out. Photos courtesy LFPPD

With the generous donation from Lake Forest Park Rotary Club, officers from the Lake Forest Park Police Department participated in our 8th annual event.

Special thanks to King County Sheriff's Office (Shoreline police, Kenmore police, Woodinville police) and Washington State Patrol for sending officers to help out, and to Lake Forest Park Police Lieutenant Diego Zanella for organizing the event.

This girl found her heart's desire. Photo courtesy LFPPD.

This year’s kids were chosen from LFP, Brookside, and Briarcrest elementary schools by the school district family advocates.

Each child provided a wish list for their family, and we shopped for 67 family members in our community.

The gifts were wrapped and delivered to the families, including gift cards for grocery shopping with best wishes for a happy holiday season.
It's a serious business picking the right color of nail polish. You have to see every option first.

Thank you to the LFP Rotary Club and LFP City Hall volunteers for helping us gift wrap. We also want to thank the Sutton family, Albertsons, Target, and Starbucks for their generous donations.

Shoreline Police were delighted to be part of the event - and this girl got three shoppers of her very own. Photo courtesy Shoreline Police.

We even had citizens donating while the kids were shopping!

Capt. Tim Meyer and Chief Kelly Park, Shoreline Police

Special shout out to Woodinville Target, and the awesome staff for their great support.

This event helps spread holiday cheer to those who may need a little extra this time of year and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
