Christmas Lights: Ridgecrest shines brightly

Lots of Christmas lights everywhere this year. Fighting the darkness of a lost year with bright colors in the night.

True confession: Steve lives in Ridgecrest. So unless the rest of you send in photos from other neighborhoods, we'll just keep on displaying Ridgecrest lights!

Looks like Ridgecrest has enough to take us into the next year!

Frank's Delivery Store

The crew at Frank's Door Store decided to try something new this year by lighting the north end of their delivery store with a wall sized peace sign.

Frank's is located on 15th NE in North City. The delivery store is on the east side of 15th and the sign is best seen driving south on 15th NE and looking to the left.

Frank's also has announced a new Bargain Store, coming this spring. They have also decorated The Door Store and the site of the Bargain Store.

Other businesses have decorated so the North City Business District at NE 175th and 15th NE is quite festive.

The tree atop the North City Water tower can be seen for a long distance.

Photo: Christmas decor - Santa and reindeer

This scene is on 8th NE just north of NE 160th.

If you want to see Christmas lights, just go out and drive around. I've never seen so many displays. It seems like half of every block is dripping with lights. Many many yards have lights on every branch of every tree. The houses are strung with lights. I saw one this weekend that had strings of light a foot wide all along the front of the house. It looked like rows of frosting on Sweet Pearl cupcakes.

Frosty the Snowman looks happy - probably because he doesn't melt! Also on 10th NE.

There seem to be a lot more decorations this year than in previous years. Probably because of the LED lights - you can afford to power them and you can be guilt-free for being energy efficient.

There's also a lot more whimsy this year. Dragons, unicorns, and now minions. And why not?

Anything that makes you smile is worthwhile.

It seems like more houses than ever are decorated this Christmas. I hope the lights stay up through February - they are so uplifting on a dark night and it seems so very dark when they are gone.

Seattle Poppy found a home that managed to go over the top on this brightly lit year. Lights show on the house, the roof, the chimney, a statue in the yard, a tree, and - yes - the truck.

If you see it, don't stand still too long or you are likely to get decorated.

Christmas Lights: N 151st

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

Fremont Ave N and N 151st.

I don't think we are anywhere near the 12th Day of Christmas. I never could make the count come out right. It should finish on Epiphany, on January 6, but I'm always off by a day.

I always loved the medieval concept of 12 days of Christmas, but considering the anxiety I have for one day, I'd be a wreck if I had to come up with 12 gifts for everyone in the castle.

Christmas in the daylight

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

Here's a daytime display - no lights but charming decorations. Wish we could have seen this one in the snow - the little trees like this were particularly beautiful. It's at a home southeast of the Shoreline Library.

Christmas Lights: 6th NE

15800 block of 6th NE.

Steve has barely had to leave home to find spectacular lighting displays. Tonight I drove through Briarcrest and there were so many displays I didn't even bother to make note of the locations.

It really feels like there are so many more lights this year than in previous years - or do I just not get out much?
