This is the annual opportunity for the Yacht Club to team up with the Port of Edmonds to provide a little Holiday brightness in the darkness of late Fall/early Winter. 15 decorated boats move into the Guest Dock area for the month of December.

Move in day was Saturday, December 2nd and move out can be as late as Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Participants receive free moorage and power from the Port while at the guest docks.

As a wildlife photographer, it is interesting to see this dragon and these reindeer in the neighborhood.  Migration patterns are interesting, as they typically appear here in December only.🤪

The house with the lights is also quite the display.

You can recycle burned out holidays lights

Thursday, December 15, 2022

Replace these with LED lights
Do you have a pile of burned-out holiday lights?

Are you replacing old holiday lights with energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) lights?

Don't throw out your holiday lights - recycle them!

These holiday lights recycling programs (list updated Nov. 2022), offered by retailers and other organizations, accept your old holiday light strands for recycling and send them to processors that recycle the copper wire inside them.

For drop-off programs, it's best to call first to confirm they are taking the lights, get more specific location information if needed, confirm the hours, and see if they have any restrictions. These programs are generally free unless otherwise noted in the listing.

For example, most holiday lights recycling programs want you to remove large glass bulbs (the smaller bulbs are okay) from light strands, and remove any excessive plastic attachments from the light strands, since that glass and plastic is not recyclable (you can throw those materials away yourself at home).

Maple Leaf is the Seattle neighborhood on the hill just south of Northgate. If you drive south on 15th NE, past Northgate Way and up the hill, Maple Leaf Hardware will be on your left in the business district. Of course the freeway is faster! 9000 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle WA 98115

Other businesses and organizations may also offer holiday lights recycling programs. This list will be updated as new programs are announced. When shopping for new holiday lights at retailers, ask if they have a program. Thanks for recycling your holiday lights!

Some people leave their lights up all year...

Friday, December 9, 2022

Some people never take their Christmas lights down, although that's not something the fire departments recommend. So I have to admire someone who braves the snow to put up their Christmas lights each year.

This stalwart neighbor is in the Richmond Highlands neighborhood.

Were you saying something about Halloween? What? I can't hear you.

North City Tree Lighting with giant tree and photos with Santa

Sunday, December 4, 2022

Santa arrived as scheduled to headline the 23rd annual North City Tree Lighting, held outside Les Schwab at NE 180th Street and 15th Avenue NE in North City Saturday December 3, 2022 starting at 6:30pm.

After all, Santa is definitely a Senior Citizen
There were carols, hot coffee, hot cocoa, and cookies served up by the Senior Center, the North City Business District Association, and the North City Neighborhood Association.

Santa lights the tree
And then the special moment when Santa flipped the giant switch and magically lit the Christmas tree.

Possibly the highest point in Shoreline
"We at North City Water District look forward to this special moment every year—when hundreds of colorful lights in the shape of a giant Christmas tree suddenly light up the night sky, way up on top of our 3.7 million gallon reservoir."

Lined up to see Santa and get photos
Families lined up so the children could talk to Santa and get their photo taken to save the moment.

Christmas joy
It was well worth the wait!

Christmas Lights: The last lights glow across Bitter Lake

Saturday, January 1, 2022

By Bruce Hill

These lights on this home at Bitter Lake went out when the fireworks began at midnight on New Year's Eve.

This home has been helping keep the holiday season so very bright for those in view of the lake.

And, it seems this home has a star over its roof, for Santa? Or perhaps that is just my view.

This last two years have been so difficult for all.

This festive home gives those who see it a pause to hope.

All photos by Lee Lageschulte

Boats moored at the Edmonds Marina have a tradition of decorating for Christmas. The reflections in the water give double duty for the beautiful lights and ship masts are a natural for creating trees of lights.

Just follow SR 104 west and it will lead you to the Edmonds waterfront where the boats are moored. Turn left at the ferry dock.
