100% of Jersey Mike's sales on March 30 will benefit Special Olympics

Jersey Mike’s 12th Annual “Month of Giving” Celebrates Special Olympics Athletes Nationwide

WASHINGTON (statewide) The 2022 Special Olympics USA Games is joining forces with 49 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations throughout Washington for its 12th Annual March “Month of Giving” campaign.

During the month of March, customers can make a donation at any Jersey Mike’s restaurant to help more than 70 local Team Washington athletes and the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, held June 5-12, 2022 in Orlando, Fla. Athletes will compete in 19 sports including athletics, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, basketball, flag football and many more.

The Month of Giving campaign will culminate with Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 30, when local Jersey Mike’s restaurants will give 100 percent of the day’s sales – not just profit – to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games and the local state Programs attending the USA Games.

Jersey Mike's at Aurora Village will donate 100%
of profits March 30 to Special Olympics
Locally, we have a Jersey Mike's in Aurora Village, across from the Costco entrance. The same owner has stores in Mukilteo, Shoreline, Redmond/Overlake, Lynnwood. 49 Washington stores participate in this charity event.

For the first time in the 12-year history of Month of Giving, Jersey Mike’s owners and operators nationwide will support a single cause.

The company hopes to surpass last year’s record-breaking $15 million raised for charity. Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving has raised more than $47 million for local charities since it began in 2011.

“We’ve been involved with Special Olympics since 1975, and it is an honor for Jersey Mike’s to be the presenting partner of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO. “We support the organization’s mission to foster inclusivity, and help its athletes shine on and off the field. I invite everyone to join us and celebrate our country’s Special Olympics athletes during Month of Giving.”

Every four years, more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from all 50 states unite to compete in one of the most beloved and inspiring sporting events in the US – the Special Olympics USA Games. It is all part of a global movement using sports to end discrimination and empower people with intellectual disabilities. Jersey Mike’s is the presenting sponsor of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.

Throughout March, customers can make donations through the Jersey Mike’s mobile app or in-store.
On Day of Giving, Jersey Mike’s restaurants will donate their resources and every single dollar that comes in – whether in-store, on-line or through the app – to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games and the local state Programs attending the USA Games.

For a list of participating restaurants in your area please visit our location listing by state.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, with more than 2,000 locations nationwide, serves authentic fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs on in-store freshly baked bread — the same recipe it started with in 1956. Passion for giving in Jersey Mike’s local communities is reflected in its mission statement “Giving…making a difference in someone’s life.”

Secretary of State offers tips on how to donate to Ukraine without getting scammed

Saturday, March 12, 2022

OLYMPIA — Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs encourages Washingtonians to do their due diligence and conduct research on the charities or nonprofits to which they donate to support relief efforts in Ukraine.
“Americans are a generous people. Whenever a tragedy or crisis occurs around the world, we express our compassion by donating to any number of honest, legitimate charities,” said Secretary Hobbs. “These charities have the resources and infrastructure to ensure the money we contribute directly supports their designated causes.”

Valeriy V. Goloborodko, Honorary
Consul of Ukraine in Seattle.
“On behalf of the government of Ukraine and its people, we are grateful for the compassion and generosity of Washingtonians and so many millions around the world,” said Valeriy V. Goloborodko, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Seattle.

“I am thankful for Secretary Hobbs’ commitment to helping people protect themselves against fake charities that are undermining genuine, legitimate efforts to support the people of Ukraine. Thank you for both your spirit and support in driving strong efforts to provide relief where Ukrainians need them today.”

“Unfortunately, malign actors and scam organizations try to profit from these crises and take advantage of people’s generosity,” Secretary Hobbs added. “As the state agency responsible for registering corporations and charities, we encourage people to research any nonprofits and charities they choose to support before donating.”

The Office of the Secretary of State’s Charities Division offers the following tips for anyone considering donating to a charity, nonprofit, or relief organization:

  • Check the charity’s registration status. Charities operating in Washington state may need to register and submit reports to the Charities Division. To determine whether a charity is properly registered and in good standing, search for the charity on the Corporations and Charities Filing System at ccfs.sos.wa.gov
  • Check the charity’s experience and if Ukraine crisis relief matches its purpose. Charities that are formed or that shift their direction overnight to respond to a crisis may lack the experience, contacts, or staff to address the issue. Look for charities that have a track record in the region and a good reputation. Consult watchdog organizations like Charity Watch or Charity Navigator that evaluate thousands of charities across the country.
  • Be cautious of online fundraising. Before donating online through charity websites or online giving portals, review the Charities Division’s Guide for Online Giving. Avoid donating to any charities or individuals online unless you know them.
  • Do not share personal financial information over the phone. Do not share your credit/debit card or bank account information over the phone, and don’t feel pressured to do so. Send donations directly to the charity. A legitimate charity will not pressure you to make a donation immediately.
For more tips and resources, visit the Charities Division’s GIVESMART! webpage at
www.sos.wa.gov/charities/givesmart.

In addition, the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (CFD) offers a list of several reputable and reliable charities — including Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF USA, and American Red Cross International Services — to which Washingtonians can donate.

Administered by the Office of the Secretary of State, the CFD is the charitable-giving program for state and higher-education employees and retirees.

Giving Tuesday - donate to your favorite social service agency

Monday, November 29, 2021

Giving Tuesday is the day of the year when all the social service agencies do their big "Ask" for donations.

Tuesday, November 30, 2021

Most have started early, contacting people on their mailing lists and providing information on how to donate. They remind supporters of the work that they do, why it is so important, and how they will use the donations.

Some remind us of Smile.Amazon.com. If you make your Amazon purchases through Smile, you can designate an organization which will receive a portion of the money you spend. It's a very small amount but the more people who sign up, the more the contribution from Amazon.

If you do not receive a notice from a charity you like, just go to their website for information. We have many worthy local organizations that need your support.

Friday, August 20, 2021

Lutheran Community Services (LCS) Northwest has aided in settling 24 refugees from Afghanistan last week, and are anticipating settling 17 by the end of this week.

The need for support for these populations is rising quickly. Throughout decades, LCS Northwest has welcomed and resettled over 45,000 refugees in the Northwest.

In the past 3 years, the nonprofit organization has helped almost 700 people with Special Immigrant visas (SIVs) resettle. Shoreline-based World Concern responds to India COVID-19 crisis

Friday, May 7, 2021

Through its partners on the ground in India, Shoreline-based World Concern is responding to meet critical needs in the India COVID-19 crisis: oxygen, PPEs, and vital funds for community medical facilities to purchase supplies quickly and locally.

With millions of people living in extreme poverty in India, nationwide lockdowns mean poor families have no source of food or income. Vouchers for cash and food are critical to saving lives as well.

Yesterday, India reported 3,780 people died from the virus in one day and there were 382,315 new cases — two grim records for the country. But it’s likely much worse than those numbers indicate. Some say less than 5% of cases are being reported. Officials fear that 700,000 people could die in the next three months.

As a member of the Integral Alliance, a network of Christian international disaster response and development organizations, World Concern is able to join the response and rally supporters here in the U.S., offering them a way to help in a crisis like this.

Cases are rising to dangerous levels in Nepal, Bangladesh, and other countries bordering India where World Concern works. Preparations for responses in these countries are being made as well.

World Concern is calling for prayer and encouraging Americans to consider donating to organizations serving or partnering in India. The needs are massive and help from around the world is needed.

For more information on World Concern, or to donate, please visit www.worldconcern.org.

World Concern is a Christian global relief and development organization. At World Concern, the solutions we offer, the work we do, creates lasting, sustainable change. Lasting change that provides lasting hope. Our areas of expertise include disaster response, clean water, education, food security, child protection, microfinance and health.

Online auction to benefit Tubie Friends

Sunday, April 26, 2020

Tubie Friends is a locally run charity that serves children with medically complex lives.

Times are hard right now for charities and our kids need your help. We are proud of our work and how we ensure that almost every dollar goes to the kids (no paid staff or overhead).

Tubie Friends’ mission is to provide comfort, therapy and education for families who are dealing with the challenges of having a child with chronic medical illness.

The families we work with have children who have medical devices placed on or in their bodies. We provide the family with a high-quality stuffed animal that is customized for each child.

If the child has a feeding tube and a central line, then we will sew a feeding tube and central line into the stuffed animal they request.

These are then used to help caregivers, including school personnel, become accustomed to the equipment by practicing on the Tubie Friend.

It also is a comfort to the child who feels like he/she is the only one who has a tube like this in his/her body.

More information about Tubie Friends HERE or on Facebook

The board members live and operate Tubie Friends out of their homes in Mill Creek, Bothell, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.

Annually, they send around 2000 Tubie Friends all over the world.

Prior to the pandemic, we had worked so hard to secure donations for our annual auction, which is our largest fundraiser for the year.

Since it is an online auction, we have opted to move forward with our event. Pick-ups will have flexible dates so you don't make an extra trip out and social distancing rules will be followed, including wearing gloves and masks when handling your items.

Look at the amazing community support! So many local businesses and donations from neighbors made this possible.

We hope you find something that you will come back to bid on starting April 28.

The Dippers of the Dock - LFP Rotary takes the plunge

Monday, January 13, 2020

Photos by Mike Remarcke

Yup, they did it.

The conservative approach

In spite of dropping temperatures, impending snow, and possible hypothermia, LFP Rotary members and friends took the plunge for charity in the first ever Rotary Polar Bear Dip.

The jump right in approach

On Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2pm the intrepid few ran into the cold waters of Lake Washington. A few went for full immersion and jumped off the dock at the Sheridan Community Center.

The expression says it all

Happily, after a brief time in the invigorating waters, all returned safely to shore.

The KCSO Marine rescue unit was there to make sure
that everyone returned to shore

Now they will collect the pledges from friends, family, and co-workers and donate the funds to the EndPolioNow.org project.

Volunteers on land

The fight to end polio is led by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), which includes Rotary, UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and governments of the world, with the support of many others around the globe.
