Cats: Happy ending for Mr. Cocoa and Ty Hootie

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

New family
Do you remember the story about the bonded pair of kitties whose owner moved out of the country and left them in the Purrfect Pals shelter? See the previous story.

After ten months in the shelter, they have finally been adopted.

Here's the story from Purrfect Pals.

Finally the wait is OVER!!!! After waiting 10 months, 5 year old Mr. Cocoa and his best friend, 13 year old Ty Hootie were adopted last night at Denny's Pet World. These attractive, affectionate, lap-loving boys came to Purrfect Pals in January when their human companion moved out of the country. These sweet boys are terrific cats who, despite being featured several times, and being volunteer favorites, just couldn't find anyone interested in taking them home. Until now!

Olivia and Audrey (nice, nice young women) had been to many shelters, searching for the perfect-for-them cat, an older cat who needed love. When they arrived at Denny's Pet World yesterday they weren't planning to adopt a cat right away - much less a pair of cats - but that's exactly what happened! When they met the bonded pair it was quite clear that Ty and Cocoa were very comfortable with them and the boys turned on their charm full-blast. How could Olivia and Audrey NOT fall in love with these two sweethearts? Audrey and Olivia have promised the boys that if they ever move, these kitties will always come along.

Congratulations to Ty, Cocoa, Olivia, and Audrey!

Cats: Best Friends are looking for a lap with room for two

Saturday, September 17, 2016

Ty Hootie and Mr. Cocoa lost their home in January

Looking for a pair of cats that love each other so much they snuggle and sleep with each other? Want a lap cat? Look no further - best friends Ty Hootie and Mr. Cocoa are the cats for you!

These affectionate and attractive boys came to Purrfect Pals when their human companion moved out of the country. They have been waiting for a new, forever home since January.

Ty Hootie is a handsome 13 year-old buff tabby boy with green eyes who wants to curl up on your lap and also likes to bonk heads forehead to forehead with you.

Mr. Cocoa is a good-natured, friendly, chocolate black five year-old with pretty green eyes. He can be shy at first but don't let that fool you. Once he gets to know you, he will be your best friend. He likes window sills, warm sunny spots and once he's comfy with you, will sleep in your bed.

When Cocoa wants to snuggle with Ty he'll walk up to Ty and plop down on top of him as if he were a body pillow! Cocoa absolutely adores his big brother Ty.

These sweet boys are terrific cats who deserve a loving family and a second chance at a true forever home. They're really not asking for much in life... a sunny place to snooze together; a window or two for looking out onto the world; toys to play with from time to time; and plenty of human companionship and lap time.

We think they would be best in a home that is relatively quiet, without young children, other cats or dogs. Come meet these guys at Denny's Pet World in Kirkland and be prepared to fall head over heels with the sweetest pair of cats anyone could ever want!

Purrfect Pals is running low on cat food

Friday, September 16, 2016

Purrfect Pals is the cat shelter in Arlington that sponsors the Average Joe Cat Show and adoption events in Shoreline. They report that they are very low on cat food and ask for public help.

We are down to our last two bags of dry adult Pro Plan, the food we go through the fastest at our sanctuary and in our adoption centers.
With hundreds of hungry cats to feed, we use several bags every day and really can't afford to run out.
Every dollar we can save on food will allow us to provide medical care for more cats and kittens with special needs.

You can help them restock the pantry by ordering a bag through their Amazon Wish List, or sharing this link with your cat-loving friends and family - or you can just donate through their website.

Purrfect Pals was founded as a no-kill cat shelter at a time when all other shelters were killing their extra and hard to place cats.

Cats: Bageera had a hard childhood - give him a better future - UPDATE

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Bageera is a playful, goofy guy at heart

"When my human passed away, I was left on my own to wander through the neighborhood. A nice lady who works at a vet clinic found me and brought me to the rescue. My first 5 years have been pretty rough, but I'd like to start over. If you love me, I'll never be homeless again!"

Bageera wears a serious expression, but he's just a playful, goofy guy at heart. He appreciates a yummy treat, and after a play time wants to cuddle and nap with you.

Because Bageera was found outside, his ear was "tipped" when he was neutered, a practice that helps caregivers see which feral kitties have been altered. Bageera isn't feral at all, though - he's 100% cuddlebug!

Bageera is FIV+, but as long as he stays indoors he can live a long, happy, healthy life! He has no symptoms and needs no treatment. He will make you a grateful, loyal friend for life.

He is available for adoption at Seattle Area Feline Rescue in Shoreline.

You can learn more about adopting Bageera here or by stopping by the rescue to meet him at 14717 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline 98133.

UPDATE: Bageera has been adopted and is doing well in his forever home!

Protect pets from Fourth of July fireworks

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) offers these tips to help your pet cope with the noise from fireworks, and reduce the chance that it runs away.
  • Keep your pet secured indoors in the quietest room of your home while fireworks are audible. You can also use soothing music or television as a distraction. Some pets will stay calmer when placed in a secure crate in a darkened, quiet room.
  • If your pet is normally kept outside, bring them inside or put them in a well-ventilated garage or shed or in a basement while fireworks are going off.
  • Make sure your pet has at least two forms of identification. This can be a pet license and personalized tag, a license and a microchip, or all three (license, tag, and microchip). Pets with ID have a much greater chance of being returned to their owners.
  • Don't assume that your pet won’t react just because you haven’t had problems in the past. Sometimes, pets become sensitive to loud noises later in life.

If your pet is lost, check with PAWS, and check back often. It may take some time before spooked pets are brought to shelters.

Animal Shelter

Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, and Kenmore's primary animal shelter is operated by PAWS Progressive Animal Welfare Society. PAWS is located in the City of Lynnwood about 20 minutes north, just off of Highway 99.

Catio Tour Seattle returns, showcasing the growing trend in enclosed patios for cats

Sunday, May 8, 2016

Some of the coolest cats across Seattle are about to throw the open house of the year, and everyone's invited!

Cat in his catio

After a successful debut tour in 2015, Catio Tour Seattle is back. On Saturday, May 21, 2016 (noon-4 p.m.) more cat-loving communities will showcase their inspiring backyard transformations, which help keep their feline friends safe and their neighborhoods a haven for wildlife.

Catios are enclosed patios for cats – a space where they can enjoy the sights and smells of the great outdoors, and stay protected from busy roads and wild predators.

Window box or freestanding, DIY or custom design, catios are a growing trend in the US – popular not only for the safe enrichment they offer their feline residents but for the added protection they provide for birds and wildlife.

From Bothell to West Seattle, this year's tour features 11 catios of all shapes and sizes. Tour participants can choose to visit some or all of the locations, and along the way they'll have the   opportunity to talk to catio owners as well as meet the lucky felines who enjoy these safe outdoor spaces. The event is sponsored by PAWS, Catio Spaces and The Humane Society of the United States. There is a suggested donation of $10 to help support PAWS education programs, and all additional proceeds from the day will benefit animals in need at PAWS.

Melissa Moore, education manager at PAWS, says "We're thrilled to be back with this fun event. Catio Tour Seattle is not only about showcasing some of the best feline real estate Seattle has to offer. It's also about promoting something that is very close to our heart here at PAWS - a source of healthy outdoor enrichment for cats that ultimately keeps our wildlife safe too."

Purrfect Pals Shelter asks for your vote

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Get him out of kitty jail!
Available for adoption

The Purrfect Pals cat shelter has entered an online contest which ends on Sunday. The shelters receiving the most votes are awarded cash prizes.

There is less than one week left in the Shelter Challenge! While first place sadly looks out of reach, there are two $2,000 runner-up prizes up for grabs (for the #2 and #3 shelters), and right now we are in third place. However, the fourth place shelter has been gaining on us FAST the past several days. If we all vote every day and share this link, we can still win! This grant would buy a lot of kitten food which we are going to need desperately very soon.

Voting is quick, easy and free! Visit the website to vote today with just a free clicks.

[Editor's note: you may have to register with the site to vote. I apparently registered a long time ago and have not received junk mail, solicitations, or had any difficulties]

Remember, you can vote every day now through Sunday, April 10th. [or you could just donate money to the shelter]

Purrfect Pals holds the Average Joe Cat Show every year at the Shoreline Center. The 13th Annual Average Joe Cat Show will be taking over Shoreline’s Spartan Rec Center on Saturday, May 7th! To join them for this fun, family-friendly event, visit the AJCS page to enter your cat (or cat photos!) in the show, sign up to volunteer or learn more!
