2nd Annual Auto Experience at Shoreline Community College on June 3

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Hannah Lindquist midget racer

Shoreline Community College’s Sports and Event Marketing class is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Auto Experience to be held on June 3, 2015.

Lynnwood Honda, Carter Subaru, and Campbell Nelson Volkswagen dealerships will bring sustainable vehicles to the campus.

Shoreline Community College’s own Hannah Lindquist will bring her Ford Focus Midget race car.

All are invited to attend this event in front of the PUB from 10am-2pm. The event will be a hands-on learning experience, with those in attendance having the opportunity to look inside the cars and to see their unique features. Those who provide feedback on the cars will be treated to food and drinks.

Last year’s Auto Experience produced more than double the expected attendees. Among those in attendance were a group of special education students from Edmonds Middle School. Teacher Janice Maxson said “the event was the high point of all of our college prep work with my students.”

The Sports and Event Marketing class hopes to build on the success of last year’s Auto Experience in order to make it a community building event at Shoreline Community College.

Wednesday, June 3, 2015 come out in front of the PUB to see the 2nd Annual Auto Experience with sustainable cars, free food, and a chance to meet and take photos with race car driver, Hannah Lindquist. Come for fun, food, and fabulous future insights!

A special thanks goes out to our sponsors: Lynnwood Honda, Campbell Nelson Nissan Volkswagen, Carter Subaru, Lindquist Racing, and Shoreline Community College.

Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Ave N, Shoreline 98133. Campus map and parking information.

Shoreline Classic Car Show racked up another great event on Sunday, July 20 at Meridian Park Elementary School.

Approximately 200 cars were in attendance, even on a rain threatened day.

Organizer Martin DeGrazia reports that "More than $7000 was raised for the students and staff of Meridian Park Elementary thanks in part to a great class of 35 sponsors."

They had only 50 trophies to hand out but with all the wonderful cars, they needed a lot more.

Elvis was in the house, thanks to the skills of Danny Vernon and his wife Marcia with their "Illusion of Elvis" show.

Martin says, "We'd like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting this wonderful event."

The show was sponsored by Meridian Park PTA and more photos can be seen at their website. This was their fifth annual event. It is an official SeaFair activity.

Rotary Club car show in Lynnwood July 12 features Brass Era automobiles

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

According to Wikipedia, "The automotive Brass Era was an early period of automotive manufacturing, named for the prominent brass fittings used during this time for such things as lights and radiators. It extended from the Veteran era until about World War I.

"The term "Brass Era automobile" is a retronym for horseless carriage," the original name for such vehicles, which is still in use today. It is known in Britain as the Veteran era  (pre-1904) or the Edwardian era (1905 onwards). It was followed by what many collectors call the Vintage era.*"

The beautiful vehicle in the photo, along with others, will be on display on the 18th fairway of the Lynnwood Golf Course for the Concours d'Elegance at The Wood Saturday, July 12 from 1pm to 5pm.

The Gala is Friday, July 11, 6pm to 10pm.

Old Roads, Tuberculosis and Murder Saturday at Museum - as well as old racing cars

Race cars at Shoreline Museum

The Shoreline Historical Museum will conduct a walking tour of the historic Hillwood - Richmond Highlands area on Saturday, June 14 as part of their Golden Wheels Day, which goes from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Golden Wheels Racing Pathfinders will hold a One-Day Exhibit of Playland Race Cars and other Historic Vehicles on Saturday, June 14 from 1-3pm where you can see the vehicles and talk to the drivers and owners.

People should meet at the Museum at 1:00pm for the Walk. “The Hillwood History Walk and Brickwalk Talk” will cover the Firlands Way-to-Fremont Avenue-to-185th (or vice versa) part of historic Richmond Highlands and features Old Roads, Tuberculosis and Murder!

The city renamed this neighborhood, but it is part of the original Richmond Highlands area.

Museum Director Vicki Stiles says that "Some people even have birth certificates that say they were born in Richmond Highlands – and they lived on Firlands Way."

The walk takes about an hour and 15 minutes. The route is generally flat, but with some tree roots and uneven pavement, on-street walking in several areas is not suitable for wheelchairs.

The Shoreline Historical Museum is located at the corner of N 185th and Linden Ave N, 18501 Linden Avenue North.

Four great events in one weekend at Richmond Beach May 9-11

Monday, April 14, 2014

RICHMOND BEACH CELEBRATION!

Experience four great events in one spectacular weekend! Plans are firming up for what promises to be a fun-packed weekend in Richmond Beach. Come celebrate what makes our community special – the arts, the music, the food, the natural beauty, the history and the people!

Due to limited parking at the event sites, off-site parking and shuttle service to all four events will be provided on Saturday, May 10, at Richmond Beach Congregational Church located at 1512 NW 195th. Guests are encouraged to use the shuttle to reduce impact on the neighborhood. Richmond Beach residents are encouraged to walk or carpool, if possible. Visit the webpage for details or follow the signs which will be posted.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

Richmond Beach Community Association will be hosting its 15th annual Strawberry Festival at the Richmond Beach Community Park (2201 NW 197th Street) next to the library on Saturday, May 10, from noon to 5:00pm. This event is co-sponsored by the City of Shoreline and the music is supported by a Community Arts Project grant from the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council.

Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • The sensational music line-up includes: Centerpiece Jazz Band (a “little Big Band”), Folk Voice Band (Scandinavian dance music), Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra (Big Band/Standards), Cliff Perry Band (Bluegrass) and Coco Loco (Latin).
  • Scrumptious food will be offered by local restaurants Full Moon Thai Cuisine, Flying Dragon Chinese Cuisine, Puerto Bonito Mexican Restaurant and Streetzeria.  And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Strawberry Festival without traditional Strawberry Shortcake served up by RBCA (freshly baked shortcake from Edmonds Bakery and fresh, juicy strawberries smothered in creamy whip cream–yum!).
In addition, there will be a walking tour of historic Richmond Beach at 1:00pm (meet in front of the library), community and business information booths, Shorewood Photography Exhibit, lots of games and activities for kids and a visit by Shoreline’s finest – the police and fire departments.

*Children’s Parade* New this year is a children’s parade for ages 8 and under. The theme is “Seahawks” and special guest Blitz, the Seahawks’ mascot, will join the parade and be available for photos with parade participants. Dress in Seahawk attire and decorate your wagon, tricycle or scooter in Seahawk colors or gear. However, feel free to be creative—all costumes and décor are welcome. No bicycles or pets please. Staging begins at 11:15am on NW 197th Street on the north side of the park. The parade begins at 11:30am and will make two laps around the sidewalk on the perimeter of the park led by a Shorewood High School drum line and a YMCA pom team. This is not a competition and is purely for fun. All are welcome!

Electric bicycles - no sweat unless you want to

Come to the Sunday, September 22 display of electric vehicles right next to the Farmer's Market at the Lake Forest Park Shopping Mall, from 11am to 4pm.  The address is 17171 Bothell way NE, Lake Forest Park 98155.

The Tesla S

You will see vehicles ranging from electric bicycles (way more fun than conventional bicycles, and which replace automobiles for many urban trips, and eliminate all the unpleasant aspects of regular bicycles -- no sweat-- unless you want to -- or fatigue), to affordable, fun, family type electric cars whose operating costs are a fourth that of gas engine cars, up to high power/luxury electric cars like the Tesla S, which rivals a high end Porsche in luxury and performance, but whose "fuel" cost is less than ½ that of a Toyota Prius

The Nissan Leaf

In addition, you can talk with owners and electric car experts who will make available their real world experience with all aspects of electric vehicle use, including costs, rebates, capabilities, and driving tips.
