Sears install charging stations for Electric Vehicles in time for Cruise the Ave Car Show Sunday

Cruise the Ave so They Shall Walk, Sunday, October 2, Aurora Square / Sears Plaza

From MySears community website

What do Blink® electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, a car show, an automotive swap meet, a trade and crafts fair and They Shall Walk all have in common? They will all be outside of our Sears store in Shoreline, WA on Sunday, October 2 for a special event!

The Cruise the Ave so They Shall Walk event (free admission; $20 donation for car registration; hours: 9:30am – 4:00 pm) will include classic cars cruising on Aurora Avenue, starting at Shoreline Community College and ending at the Sears parking lot in Shoreline, WA (15711 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline, WA), where there will be a variety of booths set up for the trade and crafts fair. This event supports the nonprofit organization, They Shall Walk, which is a medical research organization founded to raise awareness of the plight of disabled persons and develop technology to improve their quality of life. Prizes for best car in classifications ranging from alternative fuel car to fan favorite will be awarded at the end of the event.

While you’re checking out the booths, be sure to stop by and see Sears’ newly-installed Blink® EV charging stations at the Northeast corner of the event. In June, ECOtality and Sears Holdings announced a pilot program to install Blink® level 2 EV charging stations at 10 Sears retail locations as part of The EV Project, and the Shoreline Sears store is one of those 10! The EV Project will provide an EV infrastructure to support the deployment of EVs in various markets across the country. More Blink® EV charging stations will soon be available at additional Sears stores in Washington and other states, so stay tuned!

A little drizzle didn't keep people away from the Shoreline Classic Car Show at Meridian Park Elementary on Sunday, July 30, 2011. Owners spent some quality time wiping the rain mist off their pristine paint jobs, but otherwise enjoyed showing off their treasures.

Police nearly stopped the music when they arrested the band members of the Fabulous Hammers, but it was all in good fun. Seattle police officer Jim Ritter, president of the Police Museum in Pioneer Square, shows off the museum's 1970 Plymouth police car by draping a few suspicious characters over the hood - oh wait - that's the band.

Kids and parents didn't mind standing in line to get an autograph from iconic J P Patches.

Cruise the Ave car show was a great success for all involved

Monday, May 30, 2011

Fan Favorite / Best In Show, 1965 Mustang Fastback, "Shaboom",
owned by Marly and Bob Champion.

The Cruise the Ave So They Shall Walk Classic Car Show was held at the Sears Plaza (Aurora Square) on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

It was a collaboration among They Shall Walk, Shoreline Community College, City of Shoreline and the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce.

Les Neu of They Shall Walk was the organizer.
"We had 38 preregistered cars at the breakfast at Shoreline Community College. By 11:30am we had 90 cars registered in the parking lot. The Shoreline Chamber of Commerce Trade, Crafts and Art Fair had 50 booths set up around the east and north side of Sears. All in all the weather was fantastic and everybody enjoyed the Garage Band from the Back Door Pub in Lake City and the hot dogs served by the Knights of Columbus. A big Thank you to Club Hollywood, for the great support and the gift certificates prizes they donated along with Sears for the Craftsmen tools and tool boxes they donated for prizes."

--Les Neu, Director of Resources, They Shall Walk
When I asked Laina Lungren Sears Manager if "She had seen a bump in sales" because of the car show and craft booths. "Bump?" Laina said. "More like a mountain!"  --Les Neu

"Shoreline is made up of so many gems, and it is home to so many enthusiastic contributors! Sunday was a wonderful display of They Shall Walk – a wonderful non-profit doing meaningful work – partnering with SCC and local businesses, especially Sears and the Chamber, to produce an event for us all to enjoy."  --Dan Eernissee, City of Shoreline Economic Development Manager

"It was a real thrill to watch my vision of having Shoreline Community College connected to the Ave with a cruise come to life. SCC certifies between 10 and 12 thousand auto technicians a year, we have hundreds of international students on campus who buy cars each year, we have a fantastic automotive business base in Shoreline; I am confident that this and our upcoming cruises will serve as an excellent vehicle for connecting these communities.  We have great things planned, and a great team; clearly Les and the Chamber proved that with this event."
--Mark McVeety, Director of the Business Accelerator for SCC

The car show was so successful that another one is already being planned. The big addition for the First Sunday, October 1, 2011, "Cruise the Ave so They Shall Walk" will be the addition of an "Automotive Swap Meet".
