Volleyball camps at Shoreline Community College this summer

Register for All Skills and Advanced Volleyball camps scheduled July 25th - 28th

The All-Skills camps are for learning the fundamentals of volleyball for younger players of all skill levels. Advanced camps are designed for high school players who are competitive and want to get ready to play for a varsity team. Campers will work with Shoreline's Head Volleyball Coach, A'Laisia Redden, and team coaches. These camps are very popular so early registration is recommended

Volleyball All-Skills Camp
7/25 – 7/28 - Mon-Thur - 9:00 am – 2:00 pm - Grades 3rd - 8th - $150
Volleyball fundamentals for boys and girls grades 3-8. This Camp is designed for all levels of players: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Players will be divided by level of play. Coaches will demonstrate, explain volleyball techniques and fundamentals, as well as run drills to simulate game situations.

Advanced Volleyball Skills
7/25 – 7/28 - Mon-Thur | 3:00 – 6:00 pm - Grades 9th - 12th - $150
This camp is designed for those who are competitive and want to get ready to play for a varsity team. Camp focuses on individual skills and team work. Players will work on strategies and the mental game needed to win their games.

KIMSeattle (Kids in Medicine and Science) is a nonprofit organization that provides K-12 informal science education through authentic laboratory experiences. Camp participants will immerse themselves in a fictitious, yet realistic, simulated crime and spend the week solving the case. Rainy Folksinging Camp - Jan 28-30 - virtual and free

Rainy Camp, a program of the Seattle Folklore Society, is a song filled weekend celebrating the joy of singing together. All Singers are welcome; from beginner to professional.

It is usually held in person at a retreat in Ravensdale, Washington but is virtual this year, thanks to the pandemic.

It will be held virtually from Friday to Sunday, January 28 to 30, 2022.

Shoreline student attended Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville AL

Huntsville, AL – Harper Emanuel of Shoreline, WA recently attended Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home of Space Camp®, Space Camp® Robotics™, Aviation Challenge® and U.S. Cyber Camp®. The Rocket Center is a Smithsonian Affiliate and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s Official Visitor Center.

The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), while training students and with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and problem solving.

This program is specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for space exploration. Harper spent the week training with a team that flew a simulated space mission to the International Space Station (ISS), the Moon or Mars. The crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extra-vehicular activity (EVA), or spacewalk. Harper and crew returned to earth in time to graduate with honors.

Space Camp is located in Huntsville, Alabama, and uses astronaut training techniques to engage trainees in real-world applications of STEM subjects. Students sleep in quarters designed to resemble the ISS and train in simulators like those used by NASA.

During this week-long camp, your little artists will learn how to paint in the style of some of history’s greatest masters— Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Rothko, Claude Monet, and Joan Mitchell. Campers will learn about one artist each day and be guided through creating their own painting in the style of that artist. This is a fun, easy, and hands-on way for kids to learn art history, create original artwork, and begin finding their own expressive voices.

See kids’ imaginations come to life as they design and build their very own puppets and put on a puppet show! Lake Forest Park offers CARES Act-Funded Scholarships for Remote Learning Camps grades K - 12

At the City Council meeting on October 8, 2020, the Lake Forest Park City Council approved CARES Act funding to provide scholarships for Lake Forest Park students to attend remote weekly learning camps.

The program is for students in elementary, middle, and high school, and is offered through City of Shoreline Recreation. It is open to students who reside in the City of Lake Forest Park and attend the Shoreline School District. More information about the program is available on the Shoreline Recreation webpage.

To see if your student qualifies for scholarship assistance, review the application, available here. If your student does qualify, email the completed application to Community Volunteer Coordinator Cory Roche, croche@ci.lake-forest-park.wa.us along with supporting documentation; or, call her at 206-957-2814, with questions.

Grades K-5

City of Shoreline learning hubs for middle and high school students


Do you want your student to feel more engaged and supported? The City of Shoreline Youth and Teen Development Program has some exciting fall programming happening right now!

Middle school and high school learning hubs provide a safe, welcoming space for your student(s) to work on daily virtual learning and connect with their peers. Additionally, there will be group sports, games, art and crafts, and activities to engage in. Free lunch and snacks are available as well.

Sessions are weekly and Wednesdays include extended hours. Both are located at the Richmond Highlands Recreation Center, 16554 Fremont Ave N, and will have unique activities and offerings that appeal to each age group.

High School is free and Middle School is $50/week or no cost for qualifying families.

Registration is open for the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council’s Creative Learning Pod


The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council is pleased to announce that registration is open for its new Creative Learning Pod, which supports K-5 students and their families with remote learning, school-day care, and arts instruction.

The Pod meets Monday-Friday 8:25am – 4:45pm through the end of the semester on December 18, 2020. Students receive remote learning support (available in both English and Spanish!) from a certified bilingual teacher and do fun, creative, and educational arts activities with professional local artists.

The Arts Council is collaborating with partner organizations Hopelink, Ronald United Methodist Church, and the City of Shoreline to offer full-tuition scholarships to in-need families in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.

Registration is extremely limited and is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so check out the Arts Council’s website now to enroll!

Every Monday-Friday, 8:25am – 4:45pm from October 19 through December 18, 2020.

Are you a working parent or does your child need a place to do their remote learning this Fall?

The City of Shoreline is offering weekly Remote Learning Camps for students in all grades in the Shoreline School District. 

Remote Learning Camps provide a safe space for your child to connect to their classroom, do their school work and stay active and socially connected this Fall. 

Payments plans are available and there are scholarships for qualifying Shoreline families up to $80 per week.
