Categories and Comments are mine

Celebrating the end of the school year
6-17….16045 25th NE, Kellogg Middle School. In the morning before the last full day of school, suspects were drinking at school. Suspect possesses marijuana and steals money from victim.
6-29….152xx Aurora. Juvenile seen with cigarettes, smelled like booze, admitted drinking. Released to Mom. (Probably would have preferred jail time.)

Keeping them off the streets
6-19….160th/Aurora. Pedestrian crossing against the light has non-extraditable, misdemeanor warrant. (literally keeping them off the streets)
6-25….14817 Aurora, Econolodge. Man and woman arrested for warrants. Man lied about name. (but they got him anyway).
6-25….148xx 1st NE. Subject arrested for warrants was in possession of marijuana.
6-26….165xx N Park. Stopped for pedestrian violation, walking in roadway with back to traffic. Has misdemeanor warrant.

Car prowls (protect your GPS – remove all rocks from vicinity of your vehicle)
6-22….Richmond Beach Park. Car prowl, multiple cars, stolen items. (I think they’re talking about the park by the library. That’s where the playground was damaged and lots of graffiti. We need a block watch for the park and library.)
6-23….155xx Wallingford. Car prowl. Broke window. Took GPS. (Soon all the crooks will have GPS units and we can report something else.)
6-30….161xx Midvale. Cracked car window. (Probably vandalism, rather than theft, but they might just have been interrupted.)
6-30….N 194th/Meridian. Broke car window with rock. (See, I told you to get rid of the rocks)

Parking, sort of
6-23….NW 175/3rd NW. Impounded car for not moving for 24 hours. Car covered in moss.
6-25….153xx 20th NE. Abandoned car.
6-28….8xx NE 152nd. Abandoned car.
6-29….16xx N 200. Abandoned car.

What’s the number for 911?
6-23….175xx 10th NW. 911 hang up.
6-28….NW RB Rd. Called 911 from cell phone, asked for ambulance, hung up.

Can’t we all just get along?
6-24….153xx Interlake. Woman and man yelling and arguing.
6-24….173xx Meridian, Courthouse. Daughter is on trial for allegedly assaulting mother. Daughter is under a restraining order but made contact by phone and in person in the court parking lot.
6-26….199xx 12th NW. Mother and son fight, turned physical. Hands, fingernails, feet, teeth.
6-27….14817 Aurora, Econolodge. Fight. Assault charges filed.
6-27….167xx 2nd NE. Man threw his girlfriend down the stairs and out of the house when she wouldn’t give him oral sex. She punched him in the face in self-defense. (Honey, he’s not worth it.)
6-28….148xx Greenwood. Couple break up. Woman wanted back money she said he owed her and went to confront him. She spit in his face and he called cops and preferred charges for 4th degree assault. Weapon – spit.

Suicide prevention
6-26….19xx N 192nd. Woman upset over break up with boyfriend called her therapist and said she was depressed. Therapist called police for welfare check. (Honey, he’s not worth it.)
6-27….12xx NE 168. Suicidal woman.

Fraud
6-24….204xx 12th NW. Victim notified of fraud on their credit union account – got $2225.
6-28….154xx Meridian. ID fraud. Stole ID to open a credit card account.
6-30….166xx Stone. Case reporting that a check was written for an unknown reason 3 years ago. (That must have been a heck of a good story.)
6-30….1xx NE 203rd. Alleged non-payment of rent.

Back to the 60’s
6-25….173xx NE 149. Victim consumed psychedelic mushrooms. Transported to hospital.

Hmm
6-19….154th. Stole wood from resident’s yard. (Building something? Firewood?)
6-25….N 200th/Wallingford. Broken stop sign. (How do you break a stop sign? Maybe it was the weight of the lichen that brought it down.)

Plain old thievery
6-22….Costco. Shoplifting. (Like they don’t check the receipts?)
6-25….195xx 23rd NW. Stole parked, locked car from in front of residence. (Doesn’t seem fair, does it?)
6-27….192/Aurora, YMCA. Wallet taken from men’s locker room.
6-28….147xx Bothell, Briza Apts. Witness saw person steal a tool from back of a pickup truck in parking lot.
6-28….1207 N 200th, Sungshim Medical Clinic. Over the weekend, someone kicked in door and stole petty cash of $30. (Worth going to jail for, I’m sure)

Suspicious
6-26….171xx Fremont. Victim reports that for the past several days prowlers have been coming over his chain link fence and prowling his back yard. (Fat little guys in black masks, walking on all fours?)
6-27….N 205th/Aurora, Bank of America. Suspicious behavior near ATM. Man arrested for misdemeanor warrant. Armed with large stainless steel throwing knife.

Ladies of the evening
6-27….165/Aurora. Prostitution, pimping. (They used to just pick them up and drop them in another jurisdiction on Aurora, but her pimp was sitting there so they both got to go in. Seems fair to me.)

So many lessons to be learned
6-30….168xx Palatine. Victim heard suspect ring doorbell, then come in through dog door. She called out and he ran. Called her Mother. Mother called 911 but there was a 20 minute delay. (You can just hear the cop’s irritation in this one. If the silly girl had called 911 first instead of her mother, they might have caught him. And – lock the dog door at night – there are lots of skinny burglars. Of course, it probably took her mother 20 minutes to calm her down to find out what happened – the dog did what?)

Shoreline Police Blotter 6-6 to 6-15-2010

Monday, June 21, 2010

By Diane Hettrick
(Attention new readers: the categories and comments are mine)

The Hard-Core Stuff
6-6…..15202 Aurora, Oriental Market, 11:35 am. Suspect entered store, handed victim a note, demanded money, implied a knife and gun.
6-8…..4xx N 182nd Ct. Attempted burglary. The alarm went off, neighbor called homeowner. Homeowner returned home and found a ladder against his windows.
6-13….17xx N 175. Burglary, forced entry, items taken.
6-14….17xx NE 150th. Attempted burglary. Removed screens.

Soft-core
6-9…..192nd/Meridian. Hit and run. (I guess it depends what they hit.)
6-9…..153xx Aurora, Safeway. Subject caught shoplifting. Had un-prescribed methadone.
6-11….145th/15th NE, Goodwill. Shoplifting. Items recovered. (Not sure, but I think they have regulars.)
6-11….153rd/Aurora, Safeway. Shoplifting meat. (Yuuck. How? In a purse? Under their jacket? I repeat: Yuuck.).
6-11….153rd/Aurora, Safeway. Black adult male stole make-up. (Well, of course he had to steal it. It would be far too embarrassing to go through the line and buy it.)
6-13….157xx Aurora, Sears. 2 people shoplift video games.
6-13….155xx Densmore. Someone attached “emblems” to front and rear of car. Removing them damaged the paint.

Public inebriation
6-8…..1514 N 200th, Park n Ride. Drunk male in park and ride. Requested detox. (Wonder what alternatives he was given to get him to agree to dry out?)
6-10….3xx RB Rd. Passed out drunk in cab. Didn’t pay fare. (At least he wasn't driving.)
6-18….15xx NE 145th, U76 Gas Station. Brian was drunk and panhandling. Trespassed. (oh no, so far all the guys who have been Trespassed have different names. I was kind of hoping it was one crazy guy going door to door.)

Mental
6-11….13xx N 169th. Attempted suicide. Co-worker gave her old prescription of Seroquel. (The two facts probably don’t have anything to do with each other, except that the woman had mental problems and the co-worker, while ill-advised, was trying to help. Seroquel side-effects are “constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, lightheadedness, nasal congestion, sore throat, stomach upset, tiredness, vomiting, weakness, weight gain. Allergic reactions are rash, hives, itching, etc. etc.” If anyone ever actually read the side effects of prescription drugs, the pharmaceutical industry would go bankrupt.)
6-11….1283 N 205th, Split End Salon. Trespassed customer who was showing inappropriate interest in employee. (Creepy. I hope someone walks her to her car.)

Fraud (Have you eaten at Shari’s? Check your bank statement.)
6-7…..20101 Aurora, Ace Cash Express. Guy attempted to cash a check from his insurance company that was intended for Swedish Hospital. Fled without check once he was denied. (Ok, I am very impressed that the cashier figured it out. I mean, seriously, have you ever tried to read the statements from insurance companies? And, OMG, what an idiot the perp is. It will take the insurance company about two minutes to give the cops his name from the check # - that is, after the cops sit on hold for 45 minutes and punch a lot of buttons. “Press 1 for English” etc. etc.)
6-9…..15252 Aurora, Shari’s Restaurant. Employee fraudulently using customer’s credit cards for her own gain. (Note to self: use cash.)
6-10….17xx N 160th. Reported ID theft.
6-12….158xx 26th NE, Joe’s Guns and Stuff. Joe runs a gun business from his basement. A customer bought a couple of guns with a check that went NSF.

Call the anonymous tip line – get these creeps –1-800-222-TIPS
6-12….22xx NW 197th St, RB Community Park. Someone poured paint on the playground equipment, picnic table, and two large playground installations. Some graffiti. (What kind of creep trashes a kids’ playground? Wonder if it’s the same guy who cut the swings at Kayu Kayu Ac park last week?)

Car prowls
6-9…..1335 Aurora, Home Depot. Left purse in car in plain sight. Shattered window. (Sweetie – not at Home Depot. Those giant parking lots are feeding grounds for thieves.)
6-10….173xx Fremont, Shorewood. Student left iPod Nano in locked car – left for 15 minutes – it was stolen. (I doubt that the student with the new iPod is college-bound. With his skills and choice of profession, I doubt he’ll bother to graduate, except to Walla Walla.)
6-10….18xx NE 170th. Unlocked car. Got iPod and speakers. (Not a good week for iPods. Doesn’t anyone want GPS any more?)
6-14….145xx Dayton, Scott Manor. Stolen vehicle parked in a marked visitor’s slot at the apartment complex.
6-14….3xx NW 201st Pl. CDs stolen from unlocked car. (Couldn’t find the iPod and didn’t want the GPS)
6-14….5xx NW 203rd. Car prowl.
6-14….195xx 2nd NW. Car prowl. Took disabled placard and cigarettes. (Watch for an able-bodied smoker parked in a handicapped slot).

Weird and Creepy Soap Opera
6-8…..175th/Meridian. An anonymous citizen called 911 about a subject that was seen running in the area and had attempted to get into her car. The Subject said he was offered a ride and then set up to be assaulted. This took place on a dead end street.
6-12….195xx Stone N. Known suspect harasses/stalks/burglarizes victim. Entered house and stole a coat.
6-13….19508 Aurora, Echo Lake Tavern. Marijuana in trash can. Manager inebriated – had no idea where it came from. (Really Ossifer, I have no idea – I do booze)
6-14….1xx NW 177th Ln. Wife bit husband on finger after dispute over medication prescription. (She must not have read about the side effects.)
6-14….154xx Linden. Ex boyfriend / girlfriend. Broke up after two-year relationship. She is six months pregnant. He sent her text messages.
6-14….NE 169th /15th NE. Person reported that she thinks she saw someone reported missing from Multnomah County, Oregon. (And she knew this how?)
6-14….201xx 8th NW. missing person.

Taking advantage of the old and dead and vulnerable
6-9…..5xx NW 175th Ct. Reporting party said that someone with access stole deceased person’s car. (Were they brothers?)
6-12….12xx N 172nd, RB Rehab. Daughter has power of attorney for parent at the Rehab Center. Someone forged a check to look like her parent wrote it out to “Brenda.”
6-12….193xx 2nd NW. Violation of protection order. (You never know how serious these are. Women get murdered.)

Right in there with the phony checks you get in the mail
6-10….17xx NW 199th. Harassing phone call from collection agency. (I briefly worked for a collection agency trying to get money on defaulting student loans. The staff was very polite and professional. The college graduates with the unpaid loans were mostly unemployed English majors but there were a couple of scumbags who were using their legal degrees to avoid paying their loans. But before you start making lawyer jokes, please know that some of my best friends are attorneys...)

Keeping them off the streets
6-8…..175th/Meridian. Motorcyclist. Driving with license suspended. (Cops check motorcyclists, too)
6-11….155th/Aurora. Driving with license suspended.
6-14….201xx Aurora. Driving with licenses suspended.
6-14….NE 155th/1st NE, Twin Ponds Park. Two guys were in the park after hours. Police checked them as they were returning to their vehicle. Found marijuana. (Cops do parks, too.)
6-14….NE 150th/20th NE. Contacted on city street. One person has non-extraditable warrant out of California. (Cops check pedestrians. No one can hide from the long arm of the law. Dum de dum dum.)
(Getting a bicyclist would have completed the set. Maybe when the weather is better.)

Homeless cars
6-14….N 159th/Meridian. Abandoned car.
6-14….145xx 27th NE. 2 abandoned cars. Expired tabs.

Second runner-up
6-14….157xx Dayton. Guy parked his car, locked it, and a while later, watched it drive away.

First runner-up
6-12….174xx 8th NE. Victim says that “someone stole a rusted out piece of junk (car)” from his front yard. The car was inoperable and he was going to get rid of it. When he wasn’t home, a tow truck came to the property and towed away the vehicle. (He’d been promising to get rid of that eyesore for a long time and the neighbors finally got sick of it. Just my theory, of course. Hey guys, next time just call the Shoreline Customer Response Team 206-801-2700.)

This week’s winner
6-9…..160xx Aurora. Medical Marijuana store employees smoke merchandise and leave paraphenalia outside in common area. (Ok, I should have told you that a Green Pharmacy opened up in Shoreline a few months ago. Now you know. And what I have learned from this story is that I must never, ever work in a chocolate store.)

Testosterone on Parade

Shoreline Police Blotter 5-24 to 6-1-2010

Monday, June 7, 2010

By Diane Hettrick
(Categories and comments are mine. Don't blame the police, they're very professional.)

Casino Watch
5-24…..16716 Aurora, Club Hollywood. Hit and run of unoccupied vehicle in lot.
5-25…..16716 Aurora, Club Hollywood. A woman came in the casino who was suspected of stealing a $100 chip the month before. Insufficient proof to press charges, so she was Trespassed.

Siblings

5-26…..158xx 25th NE. A woman showed up naked at a friend’s house. Friend called her sister to come get her. Naked woman got really angry at sister. Sister was afraid she would be hit. 5-29…..Northbound I-5 on-ramp at NE 175. Truck on the ramp. Driving While License Revoked. (Interesting. City police own the ramps. Once on the freeway, State Patrol would have jurisdiction, unless City police were in hot pursuit.)

White male driver in black Mercury Cougar. Chased him through parking lot, city streets, lost him on the freeway. (That’s the congested street that curves through busy Gateway Plaza, where shoppers back into you from the parking spaces on both sides of the street. It’s dangerous enough there without a police pursuit. Cool your jets, guys.)

5-29…..5xx NE 145th. Woman ate pot brownies and was freaking out. (I wonder if she was freaking out because she didn’t know she was eating augmented brownies? Or perhaps she got the stems stuck in her teeth. Good oral hygiene is very important.)

Shoreline Police Blotter 5-11 to 5-19-2010

By Diane Hettrick (Categories and Comments are mine)

Cars, and Contents, and Crooks (Oh My!)

5-12…..20xx NW 196th. Stole ring from locked car.
5-12…..15xx NW 195. Stole golf clubs from unlocked car. (Wouldn’t really matter if it were locked, but you did make it tempting and easy. Fore!)
5-14…..13x NE 161st. Abandoned car.
5-14…..Whitman/N 167th. Abandoned car.
5-14…..Stone/N 165. Abandoned car.
5-15…..149xx 5th NE. Abandoned car.
5-17…..N 14th/Stone. Abandoned car.
5-19…..N 165th/Aurora. Abandoned car.

Fraud

5-13…..3xx N 205th. Checked bank account online and found unauthorized charge on debit card. (Probably bought something on TV. We did once and the company enrolled us in a “Buyer’s Club” and months later put an annual fee of $98 on our account. By the time I got to them they had already been roughed up by the State Attorney General’s office so they removed the charges immediately. But what about people who are too busy to check their statements carefully?)

5-13…..Bank of America, Westminster Way. A patron was waiting in the outer lobby for the bank to open. He was first in line to try to cash a “washed” check for $400. (Thieves get your checks, usually because you put your outgoing mail in your home mail box. They wash the ink off the check, and change the amount and the pay to info, then cash the check.)

5-14…..17xx N 181st. Someone tried twice to open a Discover card in person’s name. The bank / card company contacted her both times to verify.

5-14…170xx 12th. Someone tried to run a check scam on an elderly woman and she turned them in. (Go Granny Go!)

5-15…..Wells Fargo Bank. “Known subject transferred funds into Responding Party’s bank account.” (Not sure what this is about, unless it’s the Nigerian Scam where you get suckered into thinking you are helping someone get money out of Africa. They give you what turns out to be a bad check, while you transfer your good money to a third party. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. And don’t send me any more of those good luck email threats either – “send this good luck email to ten people or your favorite body parts will shrivel up and fall off.”)

5-15…..N 198/Fremont. Mail taken from several mail boxes.

5-16…..4xx NW 197th. ID theft to open a Comcast cable account. (They used to just do illegal hookups to the local cable. Or, remember the Black Boxes for illegal long distance? Ah, the good old days.)

Yikes!

5-11…..2xx NW 196th Pl. Family on vacation, had someone taking care of house and pets, returned to find house burglarized. Entry was by key. (Ok, I know what you’re thinking. But what if they had a key hidden outside? Burglars can find those really fast – it’s the homeowners who can never remember where they hid the key.)

5-13…..3xx NE 170th. Family went out for a few hours, came back and found a pile of charred material on their porch.

5-15…..153xx Linden. Woman was outside working in the yard when she noticed the outside phone box was open and wiring pulled out. (Now there’s an argument for cell phones.)

5-16…..167xx 5th NE. Someone attempted to enter through bedroom window when people were in bed asleep. (I don’t know. Bad reconnaissance?)

5-18…..165xx 15th NE. Driver almost hit another car head on. Driving With License Suspended. No ID. No (required) interlock device (the thing you have your grandson blow into to check your blood alcohol level before you can drive your car the wrong way down the freeway.)

Mental

5-12…..SCC. Student of mixed ethnicity wrote threats on a written test and on the whiteboard in the classroom. Threats were against his own ethnic group.

5-19…..1295 N 205th, Starbucks. Man who had been previously trespassed came back. (Begone!)

FDD

5-12…..N 205th/Aurora, Union 76. Guy falling down drunk. (Do they sell booze at the gas station? Huffing gas fumes? Is the gas station a great place to knock back a bottle of wine?)

5-15…..N 185th/Midvale, police station. Liquor store clerk told cop that a guy who was falling down drunk had just left the store.

Jerry Springer

5-13…..N 145th/Greenwood. Former boyfriend / girlfriend decided to try to get back together and went on a date to a casino. The date involved drinking and they ended up in a fight on the street. (Started as Dr. Phil and ended up as Jerry Springer.)

5-13…..1554 NE 145th, U 76 station. N was shopping in the station mart when he was punched in the face by an unknown person. N had been previously trespassed from the station. (Told you not to come back here!)

5-14…..5xx N 169th. Family fight, fueled by alcohol.

Beer – worth going to jail for

5-14…..17202 15th NE, Safeway. White male, 30s, dark hat and clothing, stealing beer. Got away but dropped the beer. (Imagine the person who opens one of those bottles. Imagine a volcanic fountain of foam. Might not want to buy beer at Safeway for a while. Or maybe you would – the 4th of July is coming up and fireworks are banned almost everywhere.)

5-14…..15815 Westminster, ScrapBook Pad. Shoplifting. (Now, those cute little paper cutters that make tiny stars and hearts – that’s worth going to jail for.)

5-18…..204xx Aurora, U 76. Two guys shoplifted bottled water. (What is it about Union 76 stations this week?)

Civic Duty

5-14…..NE 155th/8th Ave NE. Complaint about crosswalk enforcement. (The more you complain, the higher things go on the list.)

You have to take it seriously

5-13…..Einstein principal reported that a current student received a threat on his Facebook page from a former student. Former student said he “had a gun and might hold it to your head.”

You don’t have to take it seriously

5-17…..N 170/Aurora. Someone in car threw turkey and cheese sandwich at a flagger. (Hold the mayo).

1-800-222-TIPS

5-17…..15730 Aurora, Deals on Wheels. Tagger sprayed painted three cars for sale. Spray painted them with viper, blue2, and tear drop.

5-17…..345 NE 175th, Shoreline Library. Green spray paint on two walls.

5-14…..14711 5th NE, N. Jackson Park n Ride. Driver tried to start car and it sounded funny. Someone stole his catalytic converter.
