Bloodmobile in Richmond Beach Saturday, September 7, 2024

Tuesday, September 3, 2024

The Bloodworks Northwest mobile unit is back, picking up where it left off before COVID. That means it's time for the back-to-school blood drive!

The big bus will be in front of the Shoreline Fire Department Fire Safety Center, at the corner of Richmond Beach Road and 20th Ave NW, from 9am to 3pm, its usual place and time.

Appointments are strongly encouraged, but they will take walk-ups on a space-available basis.

Appointments are made at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 1-800-398-7888.

Please pass this along to friends and neighbors; remember it's fun to donate with a pal and important to help recruit new donors and to encourage people to make their donations an every-eight-week routine.

The need for blood never lets up, and Bloodworks, like other services across the country, go into the Fall season on "empty," Summer having depleted supplies while people are on vacation.

Keep the Independence Day celebration going by donating blood on Saturday, July 6!

The Bloodworks Northwest mobile unit will be at the Shoreline Fire Safety Center, 1847 NW 195th Street (Richmond Beach Road) from 9am to 3pm.

Enjoy an hour of air conditioning and good company while doing something great for your neighbors.

Blood supplies typically dip in the summer . . . when fewer people donate, while more people need blood.

Repeat and regular donors are encouraged to come back, and to talk it up with friends and family, while first timers are eagerly welcomed.

This visit by the bloodmobile will be the 75th such event held at Station #62, dating back to early 2008.

The neighborhood's consistent support has meant a lot to Bloodworks, which knows it can count on Richmond Beach for good drives, even on holiday weekends.

Appointments are preferred, though walk-ups are accepted as well. Appointments can be made right up to same-day at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 800-398-7888.

New Blood Drive in Shoreline, Saturday, June 8, 2024

Saturday, June 1, 2024

Bloodworks Northwest will have a mobile drive set up inside Shoreline Covenant Church on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 9am to 3pm.

Summertime is always crucial for blood collection: donations drop, as people go on vacations, while needs rise, as vacationers schedule elective surgeries or have accidents amid the fun times.

Appointments can be made here or by calling 800-398-7888. They are especially looking to fill afternoon time slots.

Donating blood takes about an hour, door to door. First-time donors are welcome; experienced donors can share the news and encourage friends and family to join them in donating.

At this inaugural blood drive, every donor will receive a coupon redeemable at the Richmond Beach Strawberry Festival the same day for the value of a strawberry shortcake! It's a great way to start the season.

Bloodmobile in Richmond Beach on Garage Sale Day May 4, 2024

Tuesday, April 30, 2024

By Tom Petersen

While out hunting for treasures, consider leaving something special with Bloodworks Northwest!

Their mobile unit will be at the Fire Safety Center at the corner of Richmond Beach Road and 20th Ave NW, from 9am to 3pm, on Garage Sale Day, Saturday, May 4, 2024.

These are earlier hours than the last drive, in response to high demand for earlier appointments times.

Richmond Beach welcomed the return of regular blood drives after a four year pandemic absence with a huge response, "filling the bus" on March 2. Bloodworks hopes to see every bed full again, as the need for blood is still acute.

There were many first-time donors in March, and the hope is that they will return and establish the every-eight-week habit . . . and encourage others.

Prospective donors aged 16 and 17 are welcomed, with written parent permission.

Appointments are preferred and urged; go to www.bloodworksnw.org or call 800-398-7888. Walk-ups are accepted if there is an open spot; same-day, later-today appointments can be made online, by calling, or in person.

Starr Sutherland, Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion hosted a Blood Drive Friday, March 22, 2024

Thursday, March 28, 2024

The postage stamp “Giving Blood Saves Lives” was Issued March 12, 1971 at a time when blood donations were not keeping up with demand. This stamp was meant to raise awareness of blood donor programs, thus increasing needed donations.

By Doug Cerretti, Blood Program Leader

Starr Sutherland, Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion hosted an American Red Cross blood drive Friday, March 22, 2024.

“Hosting a blood drive coincides with The American Legion’s core values of giving back to the community, not only to veterans and their families but also to the community in which we live. With a simple blood donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor,” said Post 227 Commander Charles Grenard.

Last Friday was the 16th blood drive Post 227 has hosted since 2021. During this time 640 units totaling 80 gallons of much needed blood have been donated. Commander Grenard continues, “We always look forward to working with the wonderful people from the American Red Cross in organizing these blood drives.”

The donated blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims.

“The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood,” says the American Red Cross.

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative; type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone and is often used to treat trauma patients.

Blood supplies are low so please consider donating blood. You can sign up for future American Red Cross Blood Drives. By using the sponsor code "Shoreline," you can sign up for future blood drives at Post 227 on Friday, May 17, 2024 and Friday, July 26, 2024.

The Red Cross Blood Drives at Post 227 are spaced at least eight weeks apart, the minimum time required between blood donations. Reserve your slots now. The Starr Sutherland Jr. Post 227 of The American Legion, 14521 17th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155.

Richmond Beach Blood Drive Saturday!

The Bloodworks Northwest mobile unit will be at the Shoreline Fire Safety Center at the corner of Richmond Beach Road and 20th Ave NW from 10am to 4pm this Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Please make an appointment at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 800-398-7888.

16 and 17 year olds may donate, with written permission from a parent or guardian.

First time donors of all ages are needed; inviting and encouraging friends and family to donate together is the best way to expand the pool and have fun too.

Donating blood takes only an hour. Blood donations help accident victims, people battling cancer and other pernicious diseases, people needing surgery, and scientists doing important medical research.

Shoreline blood drive August 25, 2023 sponsored by Museum and Windermere Shoreline

Monday, August 14, 2023

Summer activities such as travel, visits with out of town guests and other activities can sometimes prevent donors from stopping by to donate blood.

But the need for blood is constant, so please be sure to schedule a blood donation this summer.

Consider making your next appointment at the Windermere Shoreline on Friday, August 25th.

Sign up online by visiting https://schedule.bloodworksnw.org or call 1-800-398-7888. Same day appointments are often available.

This blood drive is sponsored by the Shoreline Historical Museum, with help and cooperation from Windermere Shoreline.

The bloodmobile will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Donating blood takes about 45 minutes. Donor requirements and restrictions have recently been altered by the FDA, expanding the eligible pool of potential donors.

The BloodworksNW website has a lot of great information on eligibility requirements, recent news around the great need for blood, and other helpful information to use.

Experienced donors are encouraged to get a friend to come donate as well. First-time donors are very much needed.

Blood Drive at Shoreline City Hall on Memorial Day

Wednesday, May 24, 2023

By Thomas Petersen

Bloodworks Northwest is looking for donors on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2023.

They will be set up in the lobby of Shoreline City Hall, 175th and Midvale, from 9am to 3pm. Appointments are available at www.bloodworksnw.org or by calling 800-398-7888.

Walk-ups will be welcome, but only for unfilled appointment times; there will be no waiting in the lobby.

Blood shortages have persisted, but Bloodworks is hoping to see a recovery this summer. "Dormant" or out-of-the-habit donors are urged to return, and first-timers are especially encouraged. Making an appointment with a friend is a fun way to go, too.

Donating blood is safe and healthy and takes about 45 minutes from start to cookies. Most healthy adults over 110 pounds are eligible. All donors are screened for certain health conditions, medications, or travel histories that might defer a person to ensure a safe blood supply.

Masks must be worn at all times.

There have been recent changes in some deferrals that began in response to public health threats 40 years ago which are no longer barriers to giving blood. More information and the list of restrictions that may apply can be found at www.bloodworksnw.org.
