From MLT News.com

With an April 12 loss to the Shorewood Thunderbirds officially erased from the records books, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks were given a second chance to pick up a win over the T-Birds at Meridian Park Field in Shoreline, but Saturday’s result ended up no different for the two teams than the game played earlier in the month.

Shorewood’s Will Smith held the Hawks to just one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking just two to lead the T-Birds to a 6-1 victory on Saturday.

The game was a replay of the April 12 game that was protested by Terrace Coach Andrew Watters after umpires mistakenly called a balk on Hawk pitcher Jesse Martineau. The protest was upheld by Wesco League officials, who ordered the game be replayed starting from the point of the erroneous balk call with one out in the bottom of the first inning.

The April 12 game had ended with Shorewood a 4-0 victor.

Wyatt Tonkin marked his 300th win as Shorewood High School's head baseball coach with a 2-1, 15 inning victory over Shorecrest High School on Thursday night, April 20, 2017.

The epic rivalry game was played over two days, having been shut down Wednesday evening due to darkness.

He dedicated the milestone win to his late wife, Alice.

Shorewood is currently in second place in Wesco 3A South, with a 8-2 conference and 10-3 overall record.

Running the bases but not outrunning the rain

Poem and photos by Wayne Pridemore

The rains came down
sometimes softly and other times not
The fans were drenched but they came to enjoy
the game, the game of baseball.
Most brought umbrellas, they had been to games of the past
games of Aprils played In Shoreline.

"most brought umbrellas"

...and most of the umbrellas were large golf umbrellas

You have to appreciate parents who support their kids,
no matter the weather

Puget Sound Senior Baseball League announces 2017 tryout dates

Monday, February 27, 2017

The non-profit Puget Sound Senior Baseball League (PSSBL), one of the largest amateur adult baseball leagues in the U.S., will have open tryouts for all baseball players, age 19 and over, during the course of four weekends in March. The PSSBL is comprised of over 1,000 players forming 64 teams in 8 different divisions.

The divisions are organized based on age and skill level, ranging from competitive to recreational. Formed in 1989, this year marks the PSSBL’s 29th season of operation. The League is affiliated with MSBL/MABL, the national organization which spearheaded the adult baseball movement in the 1980’s.

The 2017 tryouts will be held at Bellevue College on Saturday, March 4th, Interlake High School on Sunday, March 12th and Sunday, March 19th, and Edmonds Community College on Sunday, March 26th. There is no fee to try out for the PSSBL.

For more information including start times, tryout players and all interested parties are encouraged to view the PSSBL website or call 425-644-1901.

There are a number of ex-minor leaguers and college players in the PSSBL, but there’s also plenty of room in the recreational divisions for players who haven’t picked up a baseball since Little League.

The Puget Sound Twins are the current national World Series champions in the Age 35 and Over category. The Age 55 and Over national World Series title belongs to the 3n2 Rangers. Both teams are based in the PSSBL. Also of interest, the all-women’s Seattle Diamonds baseball team plays in the recreational-level Teton Division vs. all-male teams, plus the PSSBL features 13 teams for players age 55 and over.

The PSSBL is well known for donating money, materials, and labor to youth and school baseball organizations around the Sound as well as other charities. This season we are assisting Rainier Beach High School, Henry Foss High School, Thomas Jefferson High School, Bellevue College, and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Shoreline Baseball Association is getting ready for another successful year

Monday, October 3, 2016

The Shoreline Baseball Association (SBA) just completed its second year. Starting the year with one team, it grew to three teams by the end of the year.

Founded by Shoreline residents Brian Hamshaw and Timothy Lee, both alumnus of Shorecrest High School, the program has seen tremendous growth and success.

Shoreline Baseball Association was founded on the mission and belief of keeping talented baseball players in Shoreline so that they would be prepared and ready to succeed at the high school level  – as a team specifically.

Coach Tim says they’re very different from any other programs.

“Every single one of our teams is ideally the future high school team. We want them to play, train and get better together. That’s how successful high school teams compete and win.”

Tim was most recently an assistant coach on the Shorewood staff that earned second place in the 3A 2015 state tournament.

The three teams all wrapped up their seasons and are now ready to gear up for next year. The full program consists of fall ball practices / scrimmages, core and agility training with local Shoreline gym CKO 2.0 Gym with lead trainer Jessica Renon, league games and then 5-6 state and regional tournaments.

On average, each team is playing about 40-60 games a year. All practices are held at the brand new Shorecrest Baseball Field.

Brian Hamshaw says, “we’re very lucky and fortunate for the support and partnership of the Shoreline School District and Shorecrest High School specifically. No other select program has this kind of facility to call their own.”

Looking forward to next year, The Shoreline Baseball Association will field four teams: a 10u team, a 12u team, 14u, and 15u team. After three years, it seems the mission and goal of the organization has come to fruition. The 15u team has 8 incoming freshman at Shorecrest and their coach believes all 8 will make big contributions to the Shorecrest program.

From left  Ben Lockwood, Gannon Dow, Jett Randall

A few names to watch out for will be Ben Lockwood, Gannon Dow and Jett Randall. “Those three can really pitch. You will definitely see their names in the news over the next four years,” says Coach Tim.

While considered young compared to other select programs, the staff of the Shoreline Baseball Association is very excited for the future.

“We’re very proud of how far we have come while also keeping to our mission and goals. We try to be different from everyone else” says Board Member Rebecca Rouleau.

What the program is most proud of is its ability to reach and connect with their athletes on and off the field. Attitude, hustle and grades are just as important, if not more, as just teaching baseball alone in SBA.

John Greco, a father of a SBA player of 3 years says, "our son joined SBA straight out of recreation league baseball, and he has shown amazing growth in his baseball skills and passion for the game. Off the field, SBA has helped him improve his personal accountability and even his grades through their coaching and overall philosophy!”

Each team is still looking for 1-2 more players to round the rosters – if you’re interested in learning more or know someone who would want to play, find more information on their website.
