Regular daytime construction hours

Temporary signal work (night work)

This week crews will work on the temporary signals at the intersection of N 185th St and Aurora Ave. Switching power from the old signals to these temporary signals will occur at night and with police assistance to maintain safety.

Vault installation on Aurora Ave N
Crews will continue installing underground utility vaults during the daytime at multiple locations on the east side of Aurora Ave between N 165th and N 175th streets and on N 175th St. Each vault is expected to take two to three days to install. Flaggers will be onsite to maintain a safe work zone and pedestrian access.

Temporary lane closures at Midvale Ave N and N 175th St

Crews will continue drainage work at the intersection of N 175th Str and Midvale Ave N, just east of Aurora. This work will occur Monday and Tuesday nights. Traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction on N 175th St from 8 pm to 5 am. Work is expected to occur at the intersection of Midvale Ave and N 175th St during the daytime on Thursday and Friday.

The entrance to Top Foods at the N 175th St and Midvale Ave intersection will be open over the weekend, but temporarily closed beginning Monday through Wednesday morning. Drivers should access Top Foods from its Aurora entrance off Ronald Place or its east entrance off N 175th St.

Lane striping on Aurora Ave N complete
Lanes on Aurora Ave N between N 165th and N 175th streets have been shifted west to allow construction to begin on the east side. There are still two lanes of traffic in each direction on Aurora, but there is no longer a center turn lane due to lack of space during construction. Drivers are encouraged to take left turns at the signalized intersections at N 165th and N 175th streets.

Aurora construction update, week of February 7, 2010

Monday, February 8, 2010

Project contact information: Hotline (206) 801-2485, website.

Construction hours: 8 am Sunday through 5 pm Friday. There will be no construction on Saturdays.

Temporary signal work and road striping
This week at night crews will complete preparations to shift traffic to the west so construction can begin on the east side of Aurora. Work includes installing temporary signals at the intersection of N 175th Street and Aurora and striping new lanes between N 165th and N 175th streets. After new lanes are striped, traffic will be shifted west to allow construction to begin on the east side of Aurora. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Due to space limitations, center lanes will be closed and left-turn lanes onto N 175th Street from Aurora will be reduced to a single turn lane.

Temporary lane closures at Midvale Ave and N 175th St intersection.  Also at night, crews will continue trenching and drainage work at the intersection of N 175th St and Midvale Ave N. Traffic on N 175th St will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 pm to 5 am. The entrance to Top Foods at this intersection will be temporarily closed during the daytime. Drivers should access Top Foods from its Aurora entrance off Ronald Place (brick road) or its east entrance off N 175th St.

Vault installation work on Aurora Avenue N
Once traffic has been shifted to the west, crews will install underground utility vaults at three locations in City right-of-way on the east side of Aurora between N 165th and N 175th streets. Each installation is expected to take two to three days to complete.

Schedule
Construction on the project is expected to be complete in summer of 2011, weather permitting. Construction of the N 185th to N 192nd segment is anticipated to begin in 2010.

City of Shoreline awards Aurora contract to Marshbank Construction

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

At its November 16 meeting, the Shoreline City Council awarded the construction contract for the second mile of the Aurora Corridor Project, N 165th and N 185th Streets, to Marshbank Construction.

The City’s original cost estimate for the project was $23 million. Marshbank Construction, based in Lake Stevens, was the lowest of nine bidders, winning the contract at $19 million. Mobilization and equipment staging will begin in December and construction will begin on January 4, 2010. Utility companies are currently completing necessary upgrades and relocation work prior to construction along the corridor. The improvements are expected to be complete by spring 2011, weather permitting.

“We are extremely pleased to have a contractor on board that is able to build all the improvements consistent with the plans and save Shoreline $4 million to put towards completing the final mile,” says Shoreline City Manager Robert Olander. “We look forward to starting – and completing -- construction and taking this great step for Shoreline to continue its work on improving safety, utilities, transit and amenities along Aurora Avenue.”

The Aurora Corridor Improvement Project is Shoreline’s project to redesign and redevelop the three miles of Aurora Avenue N that runs through Shoreline. The City completed improvements to the first mile, between N 145th to N 165th Streets, in 2007. Second mile enhancements include improved sidewalks, lighting, natural storm water treatments and a landscaped center median with left- and U-turn pockets. These improvements will continue the City’s vision for Aurora and promote economic development, improve safety, ease congestion and enhance environmental quality and pedestrian amenities along Aurora Avenue N.

A portion of the third mile between N 185th to N 192nd Streets is funded and design is currently underway. This segment is expected to go to construction in mid-2010.
