He was the Commanding Officer at Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Eighteen when I arrived as a fresh JG. He was a good man and respected leader. Fond memories of my first Field Exercise in California with him and XO John Faist. Rest in Peace Skipper. Our “2...Stacy, so sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. Our “2012 Bike Vietnam” Seabee group (Larry Starr, Marv Pulst, Dick, and myself) normally exchange season’s greetings and we hadn’t heard back from Dick. Marv Pulst tried to track Dick down and discovered his obituary and shared it with us. We are all shocked to hear this. Dick and I go back to the early 70’s when we joined MCB-18 about the same time. Our most memorable unit active duty was around ‘74/5 when Jack Watkins was CO, Will Klauss XO, Earle Grout S4, Lynn Gorr S3, Dick A6, and I think I was C6 or S3A. We did our work by day, played basket ball in the evenings. Our Wardroom went as a group to watch Blazing Saddles and used the movie characters as a theme for our end of active duty Mess night: it was so hilarious and a most memorable time to balance out the work we put into the battalion. From the early 70’s to the late 80’s we both were in and out of the battalion in the various jobs. It was great to reminisce those years with Dick during our bike ride. Even though I hadn’t seen Dick in a long time, I consider him a good friend and will miss visiting with him againJim Ishiharanoreply@blogger.com
