Not all of us make a "poverty wage" to be eligible for property tax relief, but we don't make enough to be financially comfortable. I scraped and saved for years to buy my home, and my property taxes have doubled in the last few years. There are plenty of affordable buildings the city can buy or repurpose for a senior center. The existing pool still works and didn't the city spend several million $$$$ rehabbing it only a few years ago? Why should existing residents have to foot the bill for stuff we don't need?
