Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) recognizes twelve varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.

Brianne McCaslin, a Senior from Shorewood High School, was nominated by a community member and selected by WIAA staff as one of the Athletes of the Week for achievements in Softball.

Athlete of the Week: Brianne McCaslin, Shorewood High School, Softball 3A

McCaslin was instrumental in victories over Oak Harbor (15-14 final) and Lynnwood (7-6 extra innings final), batting .500 with a double, two triples, and driving in five runs. She also played a major role on defense with five put-outs, including a run-saving catch in the left-center gap and throwing out a runner (the go-ahead run) at third-base to complete the double-play.

In recognition of the accomplishment, each Athlete of the Week winner receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director, Mike Colbrese; a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week t-shirt; and a certificate. Winners are also posted to the WIAA website.
