Help with the Back to School Event for Shoreline Schools students in need

Monday, July 18, 2016

Organizers are deep into the preparation for the annual Back To School event, scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2016 at North City Elementary School, 816 NE 190th St, Shoreline 98155.

Members of the Back to School Consortium are: Hopelink; City of Shoreline; Ronald United Methodist Church; The Works of Shoreline PTA Council; Shoreline School District and the Readiness to Learn Program; Shoreline Community Care; Center for Human Services; Turning Point, and the Dale Turner Family YMCA.

In addition, the Lake Forest Park Rotary serves a free meal for kids and families and volunteers from local hair salons gave free haircuts.

Donation bins are in place all over the District.

The annual event provides backpacks full of school supplies, new underwear and socks, and clothing for the children in our community whose family circumstances make it challenging to adequately prepare their children for school.

Last year 1,000 backpacks were handed out, along with 800 pair of shoes.

This event takes a lot of volunteer power, most of it in the week leading up to the event and the day of the event.

Members of the community are invited to be part of this massive effort to outfit kids for school. You can view the opportunities to volunteer here and sign up here.

And, of course, you can donate school supplies and money.
