Sounder train might resume runs on Wednesday

Sounder northline trains are cancelled for Tuesday.
If there are no additional blocking events, Northline Sounder train service will resume its regular weekday schedule on Wednesday, December 31.
There is no service on Thursday, New Year’s Day.
Morning bus service for 12/30/14:
Edmonds-Seattle: A special bus will depart Edmonds Station at 6:41 am and 7:41 am at the north side of the Amtrak lot. Riders may also board regularly scheduled Community Transit Route 416 at Edmonds Station departing at 5:45 am, 6:15 am, 6:34 am, 6:55 am, and 7:42 am
Riders are advised to monitor for updates to Sounder Northline service prior to your commute.

It's too bad that the Sound Transit Board can't cut the tremendous losses to the public - both in dollars and number of passengers - on this well-intentioned, but unreliable, impractical (in terms of cost/passenger) train. I believe that it was last season the line was closed around a recird 70 times due to mudslides. Now, millions is being sunk into trying to fix this situation. Recently, a public comment stated - and it wasn't disputed by the Sound Transit Board - that there's been $500,000,000 spent on this line, with the average number of passengers around 500 or so each day. Even if it was ten times that, it's far too great a subsidy! Imagine the kind of improvements to other transit that could be funded with for that kind of money. For instance, direct access ramps at 128th in South Everett would free up the many buses that go there from having to exit on the traditional ramps for 128th - and even from using 128th itself at all. That means no more sliding over to the left turn lanes. And, with a direct access ramp, perhaps Sound Transit's frequent, seven-day-a-week, express buses would stop there, too, moving riders from having to go south to the overcrowded Ash Way Park & Ride. Speaking of which, putting in the north side of the direct access ramp at 164th would get buses off of 164th and the "back road" to the 128th Park & Ride that is now littered with multi-storied buildings on a two-lane road with little if any room for widening. Unfortunately, however, when it's not our own money, it's too easy to spend, and no politician ever wants to admit to a mistake, for it risks their precious re-elections to their elective offices. What makes this worse is that, for the Sound Transit Board, they're appointed, it's secondary income to their elective offices, thus there's little at best accountability for decisions they make - or fail to make.
