St Luke School's Unity day celebrates uniqueness, diversity, and tolerance

Monday, October 20, 2014

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Unity Day is a day where people across the nation wear orange in unity to say no to bullying.

St. Luke School’s 2nd Annual Unity Day Event will happen this Wednesday, October 22, at 2:00pm.

This year’s theme is “Cool to be Weird” inspired by a song written by local Seattle musician, Tai Shan. We are thrilled to have Tai at the school to perform her amazing song (listen to it here), inspired by The Sneetches story by Dr. Seuss, about celebrating uniqueness, diversity and tolerance. Additionally, the student body will be in orange for unity and take part in activities that celebrate the message of the concert, being unique and comfortable in your own skin.

This event is being sponsored by CLUBG, St. Luke’s Girls Leadership and Sisterhood Club. This club was co-founded by a mom and daughter team, Kimberly and Kaitlin Bell, an 8th grade student at St. Luke. CLUBG’s mission is “girls helping girls develop leadership and sisterhood skills in school communities”, with a key focus on early awareness and prevention of the relational bullying dynamics girls often face in the middle school years.

CLUBG includes a foundational bullying prevention program called Power Up delivered to younger girls in partnership with Girls Scouts Western Washington, followed by an ongoing community of girls supporting each other through monthly connects, leading take action projects in their school, and providing mentoring to the next generation of girls.

St. Luke School is located at 17533 St Luke Place North in Shoreline.

I wonder if the boys feel left out, seeing as there's no "CLUBB".

Anything that mom can do to ameliorate the "mean girls" developmental stage is time well spent!
