This is really what it's all about

Sunday, August 17, 2014 marked another finale to the week-long summer events that make Celebrate Shoreline! The weather was made to order and there was a stellar turn out at the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park for the Sandcastle Contest.

These people are dedicated to their art

There were 20 contestants and well over a hundred on-lookers. Organizer Jack Malek said,
"There were some of the best sculptures we've seen with a sand-made row boat (Ken, Meg, and Ruby Beck), a shark week display with a hammer head (Mary, Sean and Wade) and a mermaid (Lilly Steinmetz and Mary Reidy)!"
The mermaid  took third place

Lilly's sculpture was the first ever performing art piece as she included herself into the sculpture, part sand/ part maid. The first place kids' award was taken by a group Fus Rotar (Cameron, Caillou, and Brenden).

1st place in the making - a row boat

Honorable mentions went to: Mateo's Team, Rana, McMorris Family, Mario Team, and the Friends Team.

The Islanders steel drum band

The Islanders Steel Drum Band kept the beach rockin' Jamaican Style... Ya man. Hope to see you again next year!!!

2nd place Hammerhead Shark

Thanks to the sandcastle plot setup folks: Chad Knox with Gilchrist Homes, and Scott Phariss with Windermere Real Estate. And to the judges: Shoreline Mayor Shari Winstead, Shoreline-LFP Arts Council President Bob Pfieffer and RB Community News Editor Susan Will.
