George Webster took his seat as a five-week replacement for an appointed position on November 26th and begins his full six year term starting now.

Gretchen Atkinson was sworn in for a full six-year term, beginning now.

The elections were the liveliest contests in Shoreline in November, pitting the old board of commissioners, who were trying to keep the district from being assumed by the City of Shoreline, against challengers who were in favor of continuing the process begun in 2002 for the City to assume the District.

The new commissioners joined pro-assumption commissioner Robert Ransom who previously defeated long-time commissioner Arne Lind. Lind was then appointed to the Board when the old board voted to increase board size from three to five members.

The Board now consists of commissioners Bob Ransom, Gretchen Atkinson, Brian T. Carroll, George Webster, and Arnold Lind.

Congratulations to George and Gretchen

The assertion in this story that Atkinson and Webster's terms begin now is untrue and misleading.Their 6-year terms do not begin until January 1. This is a potentially important point should the Board call a special meeting between now and then. I specifically raised this question during the meeting's public comment period, and President Carroll responded, clarifying the rule. Commissioner Wadekamper re-emphasized the January 1 start date during his administration of the oaths. Thre were nearly a dozen witnesses in attendance who can attest, including Atkinson supporters Sis Polin and Councilmember Doris McConnell.

Readers can verify the election rules themselves by checking the state law as cited below, or asking King County Elections at 206-296-VOTE (as I did yesterday)

Mr. Jamieson, I hope your mind is at ease now that you have defined the word "now* with great detail. Your pedantic reasons for doing so remain obscure, but it's safe to assume they are petty and uninteresting.

@9:22 pm - the city was not satisfied with the rejection of the sale of the lift station to Woodway and in the declarations filed by City Councilmembers Doris McConnell and Chris Eggen, they went to great pains to complain about how the commissioners only rejected "this sale" and not "all sales." What is the difference? The Ronald Wastewater commissioners said no sale.

@922 pm, the truth is hardly a minor detail. If their terms start in January, don't say they start now. Say they start in January.

Is it petty and uninteresting to wonder why Gretchen Atkinson met with the City of Shoreline and 2 other Ronald Wastewater commissioners in order to file a declaration about an official act she will take once she assumes duties in January? Her declaration will submitted by the City of Shoreline, and it was made in a private meeting about an act she will take when she is sworn in -- shades of the open public meeting lawsuit involving the termination of former city manager Steve Burkett. In fact, where are all those outraged people who filed the open public meetings lawsuit that involved Bob Ransom, who has done it again with the help of the Shoreline City Attorney?
